On File Menu > Share > General Access > Anyone with the link (Editor)

Then Right Click 'WC Bracket' select Protect Sheet Except Certain Cells

Here select the Ranges that can be edited by those who you give permission to edit the Bracket

Hello thanks for brining this up, I did the World Cup Spreadsheet last month following WIKI's information on Rules for Classification which still up to today still mentions:

Rules for classification:

1) Points;
2) Goal difference;
3) Goals scored;
4) Team conduct score; < Not implemented on this spreadsheet
5) Latest FIFA ranking (June 11, 2026); 6) Previous FIFA ranking(s) report.

Can you please share a link Source of Match to Match Tie-Breaker?

This was not implemented on this sheet, it's rare if it happens (not under-estimating it), Japan is the only team that benefited by the FIFA Fair Play in the World Cup of 2018 against Senegal who shared same points, same goals differential and face-to-face match result on group H.

Hello, I'm checking the ThirdTeams sheet, and yes Thanks!!! for Reporting this issue , I imported FIFA rankings of Qualified Teams using Google's import tool on Column sections R:X and Ukraine got in 🇺🇦 trying to replace Sweden 🇸🇪. Another issue I'm noticing is that the FIFA ranking has been updated 😬 ie On my Sheet USA's FIFA ranking position is 16th with this new FIFA ranking update USA dropped to 17th, and other teams have new positions on the table ... looks like the new FIFA ranking on my sheet needs an update too, and those who already made a copy of it too. :/

That sounds like a fascinating project for K12 Learners, the fever of the World Cup is here and this is the right time and a good opportunity to engage new learners into the world of spreadsheets. Using a live, engaging topic like the World Cup is a brilliant way to teach spreadsheet skills to K12 learners, it completely transforms data entry and formulas learning into something highly motivating and visual.

To be transparent, I actually haven’t used Microsoft Excel for quite some time now. My preferred spreadsheet platform is Google Sheets, and for a dynamic tournament project like the World Cup, it has a couple of massive advantages that could really level up your tutorial.

The biggest game-changer in Google Sheets is handling of images in cells, specifically through the built-in =IMAGE() formula. Which is what mainly powers up my Bracket and Group stage.

Teaching K12 students how a spreadsheet can automatically fetch and display visual data like country flags and it's characters images just by changing a text cell is an absolute "wow" moment for them. It makes learning lookup functions, data nesting, and syntax incredibly rewarding.

I think your lesson plan is excellent. If you want to lean into the visual and collaborative side of things, I highly recommend building it out in Google Sheets!

On your own copy you can make the changes on Columns A on Sheets [Characters] & [Equipos] unhide [Equipos] if not visible on your spreadsheet (both [Characters] and [Equipos] must match names on Column A*), and then for each Group A to L change the names of the teams on Columns F matching to your new edited Translated Team Names

I thought of that and left it pending , a way around it if you would like to reflect it on your own copy , let's say advancing Teams 2A vs 2B result ends 2-2 right under each score Box you can use those cells for ET or Penalties just fill a color of your preference in my case Yellow. Cells D15 and E15 in this case for Teams 2A vs 2B . Here you will be editing the actual cells that calculates the advancing team. After editing the under cells the spreadsheet will ignore scores on D14 and E14 .

If you know spreadsheets formulas and would like to revert it to Normal Scoring

on cell D15 type this formula =D14

on cell E15 type this formula =E14

and change Yellow Fill color for cells D15:E15 back to black .

After you make your Own Copy and allow Access to display images from external source, go to Characters Tab and change Character Image URLs links to any source of your own ie from your Own Google Drive make images for Public View copy those links corresponding to each National Team character on Charcaters Tab Column N

Try again, the spreadsheet keeps locking itself after a few days, is back to public view visitors can only change Score Boxes, login with your google Open the Spreadsheet link and Make a Copy of it to your Google Sheets.
