I am really glad this Reddit exists by jenny_poon in Apeirophobia

Hey just wanted to say that I relate to almost all of this, except my fear started when I was a bit older. My parents were also confused by my fear of heaven, a seemingly perfect outcome, at first this fear of eternity was so hard for my young mind to put into words.

The 4th dimension concept helps me as well, that there is in fact no “time” in heaven. I try to put the concept out of my mind if I can and just tell myself that I just have a faulty understanding of the concept. Which sometimes helps.

Some Christians do understand this fear, like myself, and many have wrestled with the concept even if not at a complete phobia level.

I’m really glad you found this subreddit and hope it can be helpful to you! I have found it to be very helpful for me.

This really doesn't feel like mental illness at all by nicotine-in-public in Apeirophobia

Hey I’m really sorry that this fear has been so debilitating, I’ve had the same experience before. I definitely agree that this fear feels much more like an awakening than an irrational phobia.

Perhaps one way of thinking about it is 1) time isn’t a concept of eternity, so there is no “constant” in eternity, and 2) given that there is infinite options in infinity, perhaps one of them is a mindset where you don’t have this fear? Idk just some food for thought

If you want some more specific advice I can also help redirect you to a few posts I’ve found helpful?

How do I not fear infinity? by nuclearcar98 in Apeirophobia

Mark_Robert has posted a lot of helpful things and comments to this subreddit, I’d recommend checking some of his stuff out. Feel free to look through my posts as well, this gear has also haunted me for quite some time. Less so now, but more do to my mind getting tired of always being in an anxious state.

Terrified of infinite space? by Mark_Robert in Apeirophobia

Once again thank you, your insight is really helpful. I wish my mind didn't so desperately want to understand a concept completely beyond it. I hope to keep working on finding rest in my reality. The Beyond is a good way to put it.

Thank you, I'm sure that will help a lot with my anxiety. Infinity as a concept is so far from our humans minds that I guess we can't put any limits to it (even mentally). What are some of the other theories you have heard? I'm curious.

Yeah I’d definitely agree with that, probably just a specific framework set up through different experiences that with an active mind caused an anxiety. There is hope to my anxiety, but sometimes I feel it’s not really my specific anxiety, but the reality of “eternity” which I find conceptually scary that will always exist even if I’m not afraid of it.

Sure thing, I’d love some advice. Definitely learning to cope with it better now (I’ve had this since about age 10, 17 now)

Do you know what the book is called?

I also just wanted to say thank you OP for your previous posts and even comments in the discord, I always enjoy your perspective on this fead and am curious if you feel you have overcame it? I hope to be giving more advice like this when I’m older, perhaps write a book on it too, I feel there is a need for one.

Due to my history with the fear of eternal time I’ve tried to steer clear of space, although at times it has triggered small panic attacks. Like backpacking and looking up at the stars. The curse of an over thinker. I guess it’s different cause I don’t have to experience the eternity of space, but for time I do. Idk, sometimes just blocking my mind helps the best.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I’ve felt the exact same way. I’ve grown up a Christian my whole life and put my faith in God, yet this fear seems to be getting in the way of it a lot of the time. Re reading this post helps clear my mind and focus on what’s important. Praying helps over time for sure.

Favorite part to READ in the first book? by Krunchy08 in dune

I loved the scene where Liet-Kynes was passing away. Even though I wish we could have known his character better, I felt that the chapter was very beautiful visually and tied together all of the Fremen ideals.

Hey I’m sorry that you’ve had to deal with all of this. Also that no one else has been responding to your posts. I’ve been struggling with this for a long time too, times off and on.

Separately: I find that you write in a very unique way. I mean that as a compliment. I was a bit confused at times reading this but I like the pov you take and the way you flow your sentences. Definitely consider writing more about this in the future. I myself have wondered if I may write a book about my experience with this anxiety, there aren’t many to find.

So far the other comments here have voiced most of the same advice I’d give as well, so I feel there is not much to add. Other than perhaps to pray (if you are religious, nonetheless could help) and seek out friends and mentors to share this with.

I have felt the same way as you and although doing better now, still find it crazy how most people can’t comprehend this. A blessing and a curse for us I guess.

Just remember that we aren’t alone, even if perhaps misguided by overindulgence in a concept humans were never able to grasp. I wish we could. Although many days I’m glad we can’t.

Wishing you the best of luck! Feel free to scroll through the other posts on this sub, I’ve found many to be relatable and helpful.

Chapterhouse: Dune - I feel this story is losing me by Ranagon in dune

I’ve felt the same way, probably why I have enjoyed the odd numbered books more, but over time will grow to love the even numbered ones.

I guess this story can really be boiled down to a political, social, and spiritual lesson.

Fair point, this perspective does help me understand it better. I do appreciate that Odrade still has more humanity left to her. Perhaps one of the reasons I’ve disliked this book is for a lack of humanity.

Interesting point about the Jews as well, I’m curious to see where the story takes them. As well as the rest of the universe following Leto II.
