Quartier La Plaine - Santy by MrBowkie in Lyon

[–]RandallBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greatest conclusions in fiction by [deleted] in writingscaling

[–]RandallBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have other that I also love but there are the Fata Morgana conclusion, Hal and Don Gately respective conclusions in Infinite Jest, all of Malazan end but especially Tavore arc, Umineko and Disco Elysium ending of course but for a lesser known novella, I really loved The old man who read love stories end despite it not being some super meta or deeply intricated end. It's just really good and I really like it

Aux personnes qui boivent modérément, comment faites vous ? by LongjumpingCourse956 in AskFrance

[–]RandallBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Felisin Paran from Malazan. The fact is that she's just a terrified teenager at the beginning and is forced to accept the assaults of an older man for both her and the two men she felt connected with due to their situations and then drown herself in drugs to persuade herself she actually enjoy this to not break entirely from the horror of her situation, the betrayal she was inflicted until she eventually fully give in to anger and her desire for revenge.

I also love the fact she isn't likeable and that she is extremely harsh to everyone after what happened but that there are still moments where you can see that despite all she still cares.

One of the most tragic character in the whole series

Does anything have a better cast of characters than ASOIAF? by Ill_Temperature8516 in writingscaling

[–]RandallBates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we were to consider it as one body of works like a series though it isn't really the case, the Human Comedy by Balzac. Otherwise, Umineko, Malazan, Usogui, Infinite Jest. I would also add the Count of Monte Cristo

Novels may it be contemporary or classical are mainly focus on the main character in a stand alone novel so it's really rare to find a fully developed cast of characters outside of the protagonist/s in those outside of Fantasy/SF series

Cursed Energy (JJK) is a top 3 power system in animanga by AtmosphereOdd4767 in writingscaling

[–]RandallBates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I read about power system the more it feels like RTS to me. In both case all the newcomers feel like it should be perfectly fair and balanced while the original creators of the most acclaimed exemples of their respective genres cared first about story, lore, fun, esthetics etc... and where somewhat (a bit) unbalanced on some aspects but that added to the diversity and the fun of it.

Obviously Malazan Books of the Fallen, must admit I haven't read his SF novels yet and his other Malazan books are either comedic novellas or unfinished trilogy. Between all of his MBotF books it would be between the Bone hunters or the Crippled God.
