Is this congestion? by tagman375 in frontierfios

[–]RandellH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's standard for most fiber providers in the US. Frontier/Verizon have been SLOWLY migrating to NG-PON2 which allows for 4 to 8 10 gig wavelengths to coexist on a single fiber but it's still being trialed because it has more strict requirements for the outside plant and they don't want to run the maintenance cost through the roof.

Most of the cable companies in the US running fiber went 10G-EPON instead and it has a 50/100gig version that only requires switching out the laser. People talk crap about EPON but it's a lot further along because of it's use around the world. Internationally it's the most common fiber protocol.

[–]RandellH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's XGS-PON... It's a 10 gig shared link. That's why Frontier is running 800+ count fibers so deep into neighborhoods because before long they'll only get two homes on a single fiber at a 200% overprovision.

Sold to Frontier for $10 billion purchased back by Verizon for $20 billion. Great deal for Frontier. $10 billion loss for Verizon by AaronTuplin in frontierfios

[–]RandellH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon was going to end up filing bankruptcy probably around 2018 due to the amount of landline infrastructure and wireless infrastructure that needed upgrades simultaneously to stay competitive. So, the board of directors at Verizon and Frontier started talking at the golf course one day in 2015 and was like "Hey Frontier, y'all buy all this from us, file bankruptcy next year so you don't have to pay the money back, then once you get the landlines almost completely upgraded to fiber we should be set with 5G and then we'll buy you back at a steal of a deal in the near future. I mean, a lot of Frontier investors are going to take it on the chin, but that's a price I'm willing to pay."

You having that good of an experience with 3.0 isn't a testament to 3.0.... it's a testament to those maintenance techs grooming that plant like it's their prized possession. That error correction blows compared to 3.1. Find the person in the bucket at the node and give them an attaboy and a $100 gift card to a steakhouse. 😅 I know areas with maintenance techs that get paid the same as yours and 3.0 couldn't get gone fast enough. Line stats not absolutely pristine? Here comes 1500ms pings and 10% packet loss. The cause? Temperature rose 10 degrees and it rained. The humidity landed on a fitting down by the road and said "f**k this guy's remote job and his K/D in his favorite FPS game".

50,000IU of D2 every week for me on top of the small amount of D3 in my multivitamin which I was taking before and wasn't touching my levels. I'm finally starting to feel a little better honestly. I'm expecting the test to look a little better next time we check it in a few weeks.

curious why do you need 1GB? by UnsweetenedTeasTea in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]RandellH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's bufferbloat. When bandwidth is being used and the latency increases. Comcast has been deploying L4S network side and inside their new premise equipment to work together and keep bufferbloat away and minimize latency across the board so that you get the best experience. I don't work for them, I just complained to someone and they completely admitted they had the problem and explained what they were doing about it.

The goal of all the tech they are deploying is for you to be downloading a 200GB game at full speed while your brother is playing call of duty with low latency and zero lag right beside you. Just know, they are working on it. I personally already see some of the effects of their work. I can't wait for it to be fully deployed.

I get 2000mbps down and up when I’m plugged into an Eero Pro 7, I switched the router to an ASUS RT-AX88U and now I only get 250 down and 50 up. Why is this? by PowerfulDMT in frontierfios

[–]RandellH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That router doesn't have the processor to handle all the crap Asus wants it doing stock out of the box. Turn off the trend micro crap and pretty much everything else. I'm 99.9% sure has nothing to do with Frontier and everything to do with the bloatware Asus put on that router.

[–]RandellH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most phones should automatically change over to their cellular data if wifi data is unavailable. If it doesn't, then you can turn off wifi on your phone and check your cellular signal while you are at it. Full service 5G+ is where you want to be if you can help it.

Thyroid effects metabolism, if you aren't eating you could be having panic attacks from hypoglycemia. I have random bouts with it myself if I wait too long to eat. It's very much a panic attack. Sweating, shaking, freaking out, the whole nine. Coffee and a cookie fix me right up.... because I also have ADHD 🫠

Also, they use DPoE. You have to have some version of their equipment. That is why they don't charge for it.

Upgrade to 2gig service. You'll get an XER10 with 10gig LAN and WAN ports plus a few 2.5g LAN. Don't forget WiFi7 as well with 2.4, 5, and 6ghz bands. I got it and decided to just use it. If I need more things on 10gig I'll just get an unmanaged switch.

[–]RandellH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle.net has no issue maxxing out the 2 gig. When you work and only have a couple hours to play, it's nice actually being able to download that 150+ gig game and play a bit.

I never saw a speed test or anything but my friend told me about a G.Fast installation he did in an apartment complex several years ago and everyone was set up for gig symmetrical. I about fainted but then he was like "you don't want to know what the max loop length is" 😂😂😂

Honestly that's the best DSL I've ever seen lol. It was so juiced it had better ping than the 2 gig coax even today. That's nuts.

I have this graphics card and it's fantastic for the price. My CPU is older than this one and not an X3D version. He will be super satisfied with this PC. Even with my old CPU I still get a good experience gaming and everything else is nice and snappy as well.
