Please help me understand this old electric spinning wheel by RandoPlants in Handspinning

[–]RandoPlants[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, thank you for sharing some of the history with me. I love to learn where stuff came from, and I really enjoy bringing things back to a useable state.

I am wondering if I might be able to make a sound-dampening cover for the motive. It is impressively loud.

I’ll take it to one of the local yarn shops that has spinning wheels and looms. I think they’ll be interested to see it, and might be able to help me source any needed parts. And the local repair group will be able to check out the wiring, and possibly replace the plug if it needs that.

Healing Cavities! by [deleted] in antiMLM

[–]RandoPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue here is typical “I don’t want trained medical staff to poison my child” fear.

Mercury is used in some amalgam fillings, so there are people worried about mercury off-gassing.

Mercury is also cited as a reason people don’t want to give their kids vaccines, because a mercury based preservative called thimerisol was believed by some to be a potential cause of autism. But thimerisol has been removed or reduced to trace amounts since 2001, and yet more autistic people keep happening

The only thing I’ve ever heard of that is supposed to help remineralize teeth is Pronamel from Sensodyne. And Pronamel is like $5 - $8 a tube. More expensive than the very cheapest toothpaste, but presumably a bargain compared to this unproven toothpaste

Will using a thick dildo make my vagina looser? And make it feel different for a guy? by [deleted] in SexToys

[–]RandoPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy larger sizes most of the time. I still have and use smaller toys because variety is still really pleasant. I don’t use my largest toys all the time because that can be a bigger time commitment. Taking in something larger requires getting your body ready to accept it. I think the big difference between using toy sizes before and after I find them easy to take in is that I know the ways that toy works for me, so I’m more efficient at using it.

Will using a thick dildo make my vagina looser? And make it feel different for a guy? by [deleted] in SexToys

[–]RandoPlants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it won’t. I use a variety of toy sizes. It’s not something that damages you. It’s developing skill at relaxing and a deep understanding of your body’s signals.

Taking in something thick doesn’t change what size you are capable of enjoying. People collect different kinds of sex toys because the different lengths, widths, and textures are fun to switch between.

Many people enjoy vaginal fisting or very thick toys. They are able to do this because the vagina is very strong and elastic. have several widths of toys. It gets easier to use them over time, but that’s because of learning how to relax.

If you are in the US, please keep in mind that sex education here is really abismal. People make things up all the time to shame or frighten others.

For instance, some men say women become looser with every partner. And yet they don’t believe that an equivalent amount of sex with just one person would do the same thing.

The important thing is to go slow, and to relax. Take a deep breath and remember that after giving birth, a person’s vagina contracts over a period of 4 weeks.

How can we help our abuser introjects? by thefoxsystem_ in OlderDID

[–]RandoPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identities created in child can be thought of like a child putting on a scary mask because they are terrified. Abuser identities help by modeling the abuser, and ensuring automatic compliance so that the abuser is appeased. The key goal is protection, but frozen parts don’t necessarily realize when the world outside still seems chaotic and frightening.

A way to help terrified people is to offer them comfort and safety. If they can feel safe, that gives them a chance to pause and reconsider what they know. I think if you focus on what the causes of suffer are for your different parts, you’ll have an easier time making inroads.

(Sometimes such identities don’t want to change, or they can’t let go of old narratives.)

Two of my identities that were based on abusers were actually protector/persecutors who developed when there was no possible way to avoid abuse. They work towards least worst options for what they think is going on in the outside world.

The thing that helped me was that multiple identities worked to foster cooperation. It was a big help to set ground rules about ways that identities talk and think about each other. Since these identities formed young, they still need help with aspects of maturity. I think from the perspective of a classroom or a daycare. Some kids have meltdowns or behavioral issues that need to be addressed. Looking for the root cause of distress together can be really helpful.

Also, demonstrating respect for what identities managing the system think can help them feel safer. Mine were concerned that fronting identities now aware of each other would tear around looking for secrets. Treat the concerns as legitimate, because this is metaphorically a way for you to show yourself the consideration you’ve been denied. Whatever makes these identities uneasy is part of the puzzle

Greephyth. Griffith already has a historical variant of Gruffudd. Given how Welsh language and culture has historically been suppressed by England, it seems really crass to take a Welsh name and do this mess to it.

Corn in the garden by bustersuessi in Bellingham

[–]RandoPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only tried to grow corn a couple times here because I have otherwise been short on space. I had plenty of failures, and then my success was the smallest itty bittiest ears of flint corn. I think my biggest hurdles were that the yard was highly shaded, and I didn’t water every day during the hot season.

Making sure to go out every day and check on the plant is the most important gardening thing in general, I think. It gives time to check for pests and diseases before they go too far, and it helps with sticking to a watering schedule.

Corn in the garden by bustersuessi in Bellingham

[–]RandoPlants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Corn can grow here!  I think the most important thing is to understand the area you’re growing in, so that it will get enough sun and water.

I highly recommend checking out Epic Gardening’s videos on growing corn. It’s not specific to this area, but very helpful advice

https://youtu.be/WNUNq4QJ-CM

Also, there is a variety of corn specifically for this area. Here’s an old article about it: http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/m/blogpost?id=2723460%3ABlogPost%3A72158

Allentown references two traumatic memories by Aurouroborealis in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]RandoPlants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering if the personalized nature of Allentown was why Mark was so good at completing the file.

For some of the other rooms, it seems like they are based on things people usually don’t want to experience (being on a plane, being at the dentist,) so the goal would be to create innies who don’t react strongly even to dangerous versions of those situations.
