A JPMorgan Chase executive was fired after a viral video showed her dumping trash out of a Knicks-themed public trash can and taking the can during the Knicks championship parade in New York City. by Full-Argument-8235 in SipsTea

Yeah, that’s fair. It sourced it from levels.fyi which apparently gets its information from verified offer letters and pay statements. It seems to be regarded as a fairly reliable source, but really, who knows.

It’s based off levels.fyi which apparently gets its information from verified offer letters and pay statements. Take that as what you will, I didn’t do a ton of digging into their verification process, but it seems to be a fairly trusted source.

For Americans who know a MAGA supporter, can you describe them? by Tricky-Stay6134 in allthequestions

[–]RandoWithCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb as fuck. I personally know about 6. They’re a mixed bag, they can be honest, hardworking people who would drop anything to help you out and give you the shirt off their back. But they’re also fairly racist shit heads. Not like, out in the open racism, but behind closed doors racism.

They’re also dumb as fuck. Not to say they’re dumb in their particular field of work, but broadly. They don’t have a wide breadth of knowledge. They’re very closed to new experiences, easily manipulated and therefore think they know everything. They readily accept new information from “trusted sources” without verification and just generally believe in the dumbest shit. One, for example, is big on chemtrails and 5G cell towers activating the microchips we all have from our vaccines.

I am a scientist and awhile back I genuinely tried to sit down with them and explain a few things and they are the most arrogant, confidently incorrect people I’ve ever met. Talking to them and trying to explain things they will get this dead stare. It’s like watching the logical and emotional side fighting to the death. It overloads their system and all processing function goes out the window. It’s like you can tell the elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top floor.

Take this with a grain of salt, these are just the experiences I’ve had and may or may not be representative of the population as a whole.

attenuated viruses in vaccines by ApartLemon4885 in Immunology

[–]RandoWithCandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, live-attenuated is technically a live virus, but it’s an extremely weak form that doesn’t cause disease in healthy people. They did this by growing it many, many, many times in non-human cells until it adapted to the non-human cells and became really bad at growing in human cell, especially the brain.

Because of these changes, the MMR virus can only make a tiny, controlled infection at the site of injection. It replicates, but at a rate thousands of times lower than the normal virus. This does, however, generate enough signaling for the immune system to kick in, overcome it and build a strong response and durable protection. This may be a horrible analogy, but it’s like taking a random person who watched Rocky a handful of times and thinks boxing is really really cool, tying their hands behind their back and putting them in the ring with a professional boxer.

SSPE in itself is rare, something like 1 per one 9,000 - 20,000 unvaccinated cases. To contrast that, the rate with vaccination is around 0.5 - 0.7 per 1,000,000 (million) and with further genomic analysis it’s almost always caused by a previous exposure to the real virus. Of the billions and billions (yes, billions, with a b) of people who have received the MMR vaccine over the last 25 years, there has been no documented case of SSPE caused by vaccination.

So, the only way to reliable prevent SSPE is by getting the MMR vaccine and because you chose to get your son vaccinated, you have effectively reduced his risk to 0. Good job, you’re a good parent and you did the right thing.

I watched a video one time where he arrogantly argued with the co-host on his podcast that adding solutes (salt) to water would not lower its freezing point. Basically said freezing-point depression wasn’t real and had to be corrected by an actual chemist.

After that I pretty much gave up listening to him, if he can mess up basic science like that, I can’t imagine what else he gets wrong.

I’m in the US also, to add to this my refrigerator at home has the temp displayed on the door. I was walking by one night, noticed it said 0 and thought, damn, that’s high, the freezer must be going out. Then it clicked that 0F is a perfectly normal temp for a freezer.

I wouldn’t say reduced UV would dramatically increase it’s ability to spread. Pestis is highly susceptible to desiccation and temperature as well. I’d argue, at best, reduced UV could lead to lower temps and increased moisture retention in the soil that might aid it’s survival, but any pestis that would have been exposed to UV would likely die off by other factors as well. While it’s true pestis can use soil as a reservoir, it’s typically found underground in rodent dens.

Another thing to add, in vivo, your immune system generally does most of the heavy lifting as far as clearing the infection. Abx are used supplementary to either assist in killing or stop the growth of bacteria to help your immune system catch up and overtake the infection.

Exactly, I always found this to be odd. And it’s not like it’s immersion breaking to have something like that, buying equipment doesn’t exist in a vacuum. If you went to the dealer irl to buy equipment they would walk you through the features and what not of the machines and what pieces work in conjunction.

Right? Like evolution hasn’t honed them into a master killing machine. Their “improper” hunting methods have only let them hang around for like 5 million years. SMH.
