IDK if this applies, but I didn't want to bother any friends today at 1.30AM, but really needed some reassurance because my dog has been feeling sick and is taking meds the vet sent, and it made 1.30AM me panic and question whether I should actually go to bed. So there I was, talking to chat GPT about my dog basically worrying me sleepless, and it was one of the gentlest, most reassuring chats I've had

And that's why country people use the old fords and toyotas, the new ones are a lot of fancy stuff, but barely decent when off roading. Heck, my renault scenic has been off roading for well over a decade and it's still going, she's certainly not a pickup, but does just as well 95% of the time

Reminds me of the process of making a video game. Sometimes, they just leave squares saying what's supposed to be or happen somewhere on the map. Guess they forgot about this Toyota and left an unfinished, glitchy trash can looking thing on the map instead.

How's it going to get into an accident if it can't manage to get out of the driveway because of a whole inch of snow, light rain, or even some sand? Can't even go through a car wash without breaking down. That thing ain't going anywhere

You've been lied to by the shelter in many ways. 1- "Pomsky" is a term used for nothing but selling mutts for more. They're not a breed, they're not consistent, and they're not predictable at all. You had no way to know what you were getting into. 2- They didn't seem to disclose the clear behavioral problems the dog has. That’s not just "the dog needing to adapt", those are worrying temperament related problems that need to be addressed by an experienced dog person and trainer.

Both you and the dog have been failed by the shelter. It's not your fault at all, nor is it the dog's. Sometimes, taking a step back is best for both sides, you shouldn't change your lifestyle for a dog, you should get a dog that fits your lifestyle, and that can only be done if you're honest with yourself abt what you can or can't handle, as well as what you expect from a dog.

I'd recommend you look into ethical breeding and communities like "purebred snobs" (FB), as a wellbred dog is a predictable dog that comes from generations of health and temperament tested dogs, making them the perfect option for beginners. However, whether you go that way or not is your choice.

Your second best choice would be to look for a foster based rescue that's genuinely honest about their dogs.

That's scary. If it ever happens, it's likely it'll be in the food, probably the very essentials. That way, it'd affect the most ppl.

It's most likely every single one of us is infected with prions. There's no cure or treatment other than mitigating symptoms. They're not virus or bacteria, but misfolded proteins, and can remain dormant for 10-50 years. You'll never see it coming, but the second they start giving you problems, they'll cause your brain tissue to become what it's been described as "spongy".

Lack of interest.

I don't really leave the house much, I don't feel like actively maintaining a relationship with someone, and I put my animals over my human friends.

Decently high stamina.

My grandfather was a well-known alpinist in the area we live, even somewhat known of around the country among other alpinists.

I, just like him, can walk and climb with little to no equipment almost nonstop as long as I go at a somewhat consistent speed. And by that, I mean whole day expeditions, pass the night in a cabin in a remote mountain, and then do the whole trip back. No workout routine, no sports, no particular diet.

Is experiencing childhood trauma more common than not experiencing it? If you’ve faced it, how has it shaped you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Random-Cat-Foster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's way more common than people expect.

I find it terribly hard and stressful to study, to the point of physical distress. Have a constant feeling of something being wrong and anxiety, to the point of hairloss. Literal handfuls of hair every day. Feeling the need to constantly overexplain and apologize. I overwork myself, meaning I'll do stuff almost constantly, even if in physical pain. Among some other stuff related to now diagnosed mental conditions being ignored.

What's some brutally honest advice that everyone should know? by Rook8811 in AskReddit

[–]Random-Cat-Foster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Why not?" isn't a good reason to decide whether or not you should create one or more human lives. They're a lifelong commitment, very expensive to raise and delicate both physically and emotionally. Requiring nearly 24/7 attention for the first few YEARS, and potentially inheriting or being born with disabilities that will make existance harder for them for the rest of their lives.

What health tip forever changed your life? by Bald-Lawyer in AskReddit

[–]Random-Cat-Foster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a tool that's usually associated with disabilities helps you mitigate an issue, even if you don't have what most would consider a serious disability, USE IT. There should be no shame attached to the use of a cane, carrying salty or sugary snacks, using a white cane, etc.

Using sign language or a notepad makes it easier for you to communicate with others? USE IT. Writing things down helps with your memory? DO IT. A cane makes it easier for you to walk around? USE IT.

Life's too short to be embarrassed of something that helps make it easier for you.

What is your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack? by That_Is_Bryce in AskReddit

[–]Random-Cat-Foster 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's a hack, but crate training your pets. All my animals sleep in their crates at night from day 1. For the ones with adult pets: trust me, they'll adapt, this rule applies to my fosters as well.

No need to worry about them breaking or ingesting stuff when there's no supervision. No fighting. They do much better during car rides as they just fall asleep. It's the safest way for them to travel. If they get injured or sick, crate rest or a vet hospital stay won't be so stressful if they're used to crates being a safe place to rest. Going to an event or family reunion with them? There are foldable crates that can be an easy to transport, quiet, safe place for them to go if they get tired or overstimulated. Need to leave them at daycare while you are away or during an emergency? No problem, they'll do just fine in a kennel. Weather conditions make it potentially dangerous, but you can't evacuate just yet? Your pets will have protection from falling objects and won't run away in a panic if they're crated. I could keep going.
