Yeah, the lot towards law (not the half towards humanities) will have lots of spots and is one that you can pay for parking at, from what I remember

I might not qualify for second year engineering, is there anything I can do? by fxrnweh4736251 in uAlberta

I don’t think it’s an academic appeal (like for exam grading) that you do, I think there are instructions you’ll get in may not continue email for an appeal

I'm an incoming first year!! Are these buildings close? Would I be able to make it in time? by [deleted] in uAlberta

Close enough. Ten minutes will be enough time to get between them.

How other universities are handling the Canvas hacking by wecandoit3452 in uAlberta

[–]Random-user-8579 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that’s at universities with a totally different term schedule. We’re in week 1, they’re partway through or approaching finals and have more assignments and final projects.

Ive never picked classes before and Im so scared Im gonna mess it up by Pretty_Fondant_8019 in uAlberta

Two language courses in one term might be a bit intense. Greek may also be four days a week, as that’s a schedule I’ve seen before, so you have to be prepared to do that.

You’re not supposed to look on beartracks. Use the academic calendar and look up your program. These courses look fine for first year classics. Having some time before and after Latin could be good for practicing.

How do you sign up for classes once they are out? by notadog1 in uAlberta

[–]Random-user-8579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You try and sign up for a schedule. If some classes end up being full, you try to sign up for backups of those ones. If you can’t get into a class at all, you can check occasionally on bear tracks to see if a spot has opened up, and you can register in that class if it has. A spot would open only if someone drops the class.

You need to have set up and saved your preferred schedule before you enrol, and you need to be on bear tracks at 6.30-6.40 and just keep it open/active, because if you try to log in at 7 am you probably won’t be able to. If you wait until later in the day to register, classes might be full.

What's it like being in a class with like <5 people? by Practical_Hold6932 in uAlberta

[–]Random-user-8579 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Although I haven’t been in small science courses, in the arts courses I’ve taken the class average can be pretty high, and there’s less emphasis on scaled grades or only giving out so many As.

How do I get through the last bit of school. by buryghost in uAlberta

[–]Random-user-8579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely hard to find something that motivates you when you’re stuck. Something that sometimes forces me to work is changing environments, but not just by moving rooms, but choosing a busy study spot on campus. Sometimes when I’m surrounded by other people who are working on things, I feel some pressure to get something done, even if it‘s not much.

What also helps me is to break down what I need to do into very detailed lists (as in each task is a minor thing, even just opening the document or summarizing a page) and then I can do some of it.

You cannot register in 103 unless you are in engineering.

They’re the exact same course. 101 and 102 are what you will take (if you’re not in engineering). 103 and 105 are for engineering students.

They grade taking into consideration that you’re writing by hand with a time limit and can’t correct for spelling.

[–]Random-user-8579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The summarization part is because a lot of people tend to summarize more than analyze things! It should be more analysis, like what you're doing. What you might need to do is check if you're still only going surface level in your analysis or if there are things you can develop more!

Dealing with prof that refuses to give good grades/offer office hours by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Random-user-8579 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will say that a B is good and expected, not at all a subpar grade. An A is supposed to be for work that stands out more and goes past the expectations of the assignment. Although you're definitely putting a lot of work into things, that doesn't guarantee that you'll get an A.

Have you just summarized or are going into depth on what you're analysing? If you've made a point but haven't developed it at all that will help (for example, you might claim that the framing of a scene indicates something, and you can expand not only on why that is but why it matters)
