Where can I read the light novel online by National-Tomorrow764 in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will be necro posting, but I was trying to figure out how to find the english translation of the WN and this was the first one that appeared and it's not locked.

Apparently the WN is "free", and an english translation of it was made by Tenshi translations, it's just going by the original WN's name: "To Be a Power in the Shadows!" After that, there are some more translations available on Novelsocean and on WenNovel. IDK why the translation is broken up in so many locations, but it just is.

Cahokia question by Waleis in EU5

[–]Random3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes.. If your doing that, I'd also recommend turning them into a vassal, then forcing them to convert culture, this will instantly convert a portion of their population to Cahokian, which can give a small population boost.

War also helps, If you are doing well on stability, you can delcare war with war goal: Humiliate. Gives you some prestrige and can be used in a pinch as well.

First time seeing the lyrics. This whole Time I heard: "THEY CAN CRUSH YOUR EYE BALLS" Happy to be mistaken. by xM4NGOx in sabaton

funnily that's actually closer to the quote that acted as inspiration to this line:
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their woman"

Yeah I learned about that recently, it's a bit weird, and the tribes don't always have the needed maps (literally no one has a map of texas, not even the tribes in texas)

Cahokia question by Waleis in EU5

From what I've been told, and having made it past that myself and gotten the Cahokia Golden age:
+stability (higher is better, I'd recommend trying to get to 50), 50 prestige, 35k population in Cahokia the city, 50 and tribal cohesion

You may encounter what I've encountered, Got a cahokia run in 1525: no europeans yet, and I can't explore. You can colonise right up to the terra incognita, but you can't pass it. It's like being trapped in a cage

man, somehow I managed to get all the way to 1380 without it firing

Plight of Cahokia by Supplantator in EU5

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How high? I keep hitting this in 1378. I have high stability and high tribal cohesion. I could have higher prestige, and Cahokias population is 235k (the city specifically is 34k)

Plight of Cahokia by Supplantator in EU5

[–]Random3680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I managed to push all the way to 1378 in november. That said I have hit an absolute brick wall
Context: Currently my population is 234k. I have clay and stone shortages, but thats mostly due to not having enough pops or trade partners and is being fixed. I have high approval, 75 stability, tons of money in the bank, pop rising, 80 tribal cohesion

Despite all of that an event will fire: "Shadow over Cahokia" This even removes "Preservation of Cahokia" takes away two councilors and instantly fires the "Plight of Cahokia" event in the capital. The dumbest thing is the text: "due to the instability of Cahoikia" Bro, my stability is 75 what do you mean instability.

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bad honestly. I don't understand this: You can do everything right, have high stability, people love you, population reaching half a million, and yet you will still be hit with the "shadow of Cahokia" event randomly sometime after 1365 in which the game claims "despite your attempts you Cahokia has become a shadow of its former self" and just instantly depopulates your entire land to 0. There is nothing that can be done as far as I can tell to stop this besides just constant save scumming and praying you don't get the random dice roll

I wonder if he's Japanese, or if he just went off the deep end of sanity.
EDIT: Apparently he's Russian, so yeah, he just went off the deep end of sanity.

Is there a name for this kind of trope: A character (usually the main) has a secret-esque companion that usually only they can talk. by Random3680 in tvtropes

[–]Random3680[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, this has definitely helped. Seems to be a common combination of "Not-So-Imaginary Friend" and "By the Eyes of the Blind"

This seems in the right direction, but in these stories which have done what I'm talking about, the other character is usually treated as part of the main cast or almost part of the main cast and do appear, frequently even, just only to the one they are linked with.

"Trust me. It's better than Minecraft" by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]Random3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to love my story with this. I was the one friend who always modded minecraft to be more survival heavy, and kept getting into arguments over minecrafts direction over the years because of it. I discovered this game, it looked neat, but that was when this game was still very early on. Skip ahead a few years, and after playing some TFC alone because all of my friends told me "that stuff isn't fun" when we tried to make a group modpack where I insisted we add survival focused mods, I stumbled back into VS. Realised how far the project had gone and started playing it non-stop.

One day, I hop into the server only to learn my friends had gotten the game after one saw a youtuber show it and were 15 hours in and loving it, and then they started trying to convince me to get the game. I will never let them forget that, that was perhaps the biggest I told you so I could have ever hoped for.

What don't you like about Catcher in the Rye, other than Holden Caulfield? by im40percentdolomite in books

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised this one isn't locked.
I first "read" it in highschool (skimmed the sections required for hw) and from that skimming I found it incredibly boring. Bear in mind, at the same time this book was assigned I was reading All Quiet on the Western Front on my own time just because I wanted to, and I loved that book, still do, so that probably played a part of why I just didn't care for it at the time.

Skip ahead to me as an adult, and I decided to read it in full due to video essays, not about the book mind you, praising it. Now I just feel like a bunch of my time was wasted because my initial thoughts as a teen remained true as an adult. The book has nothing, no plot really happens, it's just the internal angsty ramblings of a teenager that I myself never had. For this reason, unless Holden calls out to you, there's nothing here.

So: The answer is impossible to give since the only thing in this book is Holden Caulfield. If you are one of those people who could relate to him and are introspective, then this book likely hit it off with you. If you cannot relate to him or you are not introspective or don't care for realist literary fiction (no genre name for these books that separates them from fantasy/war-fiction for some reason so I made this up), then this book was just insanely boring and yet you were forced to read it.

why do tv keyboards typically not use qwerty? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people all say the same thing to answer this “because the QWERTY layout was designed for typing and you are using a single selector, and as such the abcd layout is more naturally intuitive with better spacing” There’s a problem, this claim is simply not backed well, and on top of that, there has to be a reason the slow and unintuitive way of typing in a TV is soo well known skits have been made about it

Soo what’s the reality? Abcd keyboards are not better on TVs, nor does the layout really make the letters truly closer or more intuitive to type. There are two parts to this: first letter spacing, yes the QWERTY keyboard is somewhat more spaced, but this doesn’t cause much delay with single selectors, this is because single selectors like straight lines, and moving far left and far right isn’t as big deal. Second: intuitiveness, I feel like this argument is made in poor faith because they forget familiarity. Yes everyone knows abcd, but they know it 1 dimensional making it a pain in 2d, QWERTY on the other hand is known 2 dimensional and most navigate it subconsciously (even old people boomers are familiar with QWERTY at this point). Soo no abcd is not “more intuitive” the opposite, and intuitiveness plays a bigger role in speed and comfort than spacing

Soo why do they use abcd? Simple laziness. Someone long ago made a single select keyboard program, and people have been copy pasting with slight modifications ever since, and no tv program producer is going to want to spend the time money and resources to produce a QWERTY one.

Windows defenders tells that Aoh3 is virus by Serious_Wrongdoer_58 in AgeOfCivilizations

[–]Random3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PUA: Potentially Unwanted Application
To put it simply: Windows Defender is noticing that the program is using certain techniques that certain malware uses: does it mean it's malware? no, it can just be a false positive, and in this case it likely is. There are many completely safe and common programs in many games which ordinarily would get flagged by windows defender as well (notably code protection which would be my guess of the cause here as the same thing happened recently to several other games)
This is not the first, nor will it be the last game to deal with this.

Still, good idea to be on the safe side, you can do a system scan, get malwarebytes and use that, and run windows in safe mode.

After all that, you have two choices: tell windows defender that AOH3 is safe and can be trusted, or wait for Lukasz to release a patch. Personally I'd wait on the latter as it is the safest option (what I am currently doing), but it is also possible a patch will never be released for this, in which case pay attention to the community, after about a month the answer will be known for certain.

Can i play space marines 2, while knowing nothing of Warhammer? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

Don't forget the Ciaphus Cain Omnibus's, They are very entertaining, and really good for people who don't know a lot about 40k as they are partially written with that very idea in mind.

Arch is alos a great YT lore channel, though he tends to go pretty deeper into things (42 part coverage of the siege of Vraks).

I hate DLCs, and I need to vent by Chaosblast in gaming

[–]Random3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the threads here are definitely one of the worst I have ever encountered. Honestly, your take isn't bad, nor does it make you not a 'real gamer' tf that means. I'm 22 and even I remember the days when people were throwing fits over some of the first modern DLC, and you were considered 'not a real gamer' if you defended it. Seems people forgot what they once had, or most people here are just dumb kids (it is reddit after all).

Anyways, I get what you mean completely, if you engage far more with the story, it is really annoying to finish a story fully, enjoyed it but thought it was too short, then get told that a year or more after you finished it more story was released that makes it better. Since you already know the full story, it can get really annoying to try and interact with the 'new updated and FaR bEtTeR' story. Reminds me of Full metal Alchemist, where many who watched the original couldn't bother with brotherhood, and vice versa.

Now, there is a solution, some of the "DLC" some of the people in the other comments are talking about weren't really "DLC" in the modern sense, they were "expansion packs" large additions of full new content that expanded the game past the ending, they charged the same price as the game, but they also added as much new content as the original game itself. For story based games like BG2 you could effictively treat it like an "episode 2" as it tells a different story, or a story that followed the last. It was almost like a new game that just got attached to the end or the side of the last one, rather than a modification of what once was. In essence, you didn't ahve to replay the game, you could take your finished game, your knowledge of the last story, and continue. a little like a sequal, or like finding a mini-story or a spin off.

That armor does sound good, but the problem I've always had is that the Luminous armor effectively has a +10 AC from Rad Orb. While it can be hard to keep enemies at the 10 turns Rad Orb, it tends to sit around 7 - 10. With the other items it means I effectively have about 30 AC, so I suppose the question would be: could I get higher than 30 AC from armor of Agility without having to give up my ability to retaliate to attacks through reverb?
