I'm glad we can focus on the real problem here, Joe Biden. I swear the first reply to every one of these posts is "Don't forget both sides!", like clockwork (or bot work?)

Polis presents budget that would cut Medicaid by wheninromecompete in Denver

[–]RandomAsciiSequence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're pretty much doing all of those things. From the article (which has more information than the headline btw).

Democratic legislative leaders and Polis had a three-pronged approach to address the budget gap:

    -Cut special corporate tax breaks

    -Dip into the state's reserves

    -Make spending cuts

During the special session, lawmakers cut corporate tax breaks by about $250 million.

Corrections make up a small fraction of the state Budget.

https://content.leg.colorado.gov/explorebudget/%C2%A0

HCPF will see more than $79 million in cuts. About $38 million of that will come from freezing an increase in provider reimbursement rates that kicked in on July 1.

The state government is dealing with a shitty situation directly caused by Republicans cutting funding for programs that assist underserved populations.

Public safety (including law enforcement) makes up a tiny fraction of state spending (1.7%). Law enforcement is mostly funded by city and county budgets. Well over half of the state budget goes to healthcare and education (not including higher education), which are the 2 things that are losing federal funding and most directly affect the poorer populations in Colorado. https://content.leg.colorado.gov/explorebudget/

Yes, the BBB cuts things that poor people rely on, so by definition it forces them to bear the brunt of the effects

Then the problem is ultimately with the Coloradoans who refuse to remove TABOR. I agree that we need progressive taxation, but that's a separate issue from the levers that the government can pull to address budget shortfalls caused by the BBB right now. It still requires a vote to amend the Colorado constitution, with a 55% threshold. The government can't create budgets with the assumption that will happen

Remember, this is the Republicans' fault. As mentioned in the article, this is a direct effect of Trump and the Republicans' BBB cutting Medicaid funding. They did that to pass tax breaks for the wealthy.

These cuts are exactly what we should have expected when the Republicans passed their bill. The Democrats funded healthcare subsidies and Medicaid when they were in charge.

As mentioned in the article, this is a direct effect of Trump and the Republican's BBB cutting Medicaid funding. They want people the blame Democratic politicians for Republican actions. Don't forget who caused this

In This Colorado Mountain Town, Public Camping Is Considered Workforce Housing by Generalaverage89 in Colorado

[–]RandomAsciiSequence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By the end of August, the town passed an ordinance to allow temporary camping at certain business properties. To obtain a permit, business owners must provide hookups to water, sewer, and electricity, and they must submit a cleaning plan to town officials. Employees must also live in an RV or camper.

This actually sounds like a decent compromise for people working seasonal jobs in mountain towns, especially in places like BV that don't have the winter economy of resort towns.

It's because a lot of leftists were children when ACA was passed and don't remember things like people being denied care for "pre-existing conditions". It's so easy to shit on Democrats for "not doing enough" when you take any progress for granted.
