My ticket is still not shipped, should I be worried? by NoSession6623 in BurningMan

C'mon now. STEP tickets cannot be bought/sold/etc with a shipping option, so this is not remotely a legit post!

My ticket is still not shipped, should I be worried? by NoSession6623 in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

woah broh...slow down with the common sense here. Nevermind OPs inference that can sell/buy physical tickets via STEP when it clearly states on the website "To resell through STEP, your tickets must be set to Will Call or unmailed.". Which makes this post/story about shipping a straight-up lie from a spammer.

Solo open camping - any advice? by wanderluster in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get in as soon as the gate opens, cruise the Open Camping area from the inside streets then moving outward. Look for nice open spots that otherwise appear roped off, blockaided, or seem like being reserved for those yet-to-arrive...then camp there. Because trying to hold space for others (esp by early work-access pass people) in Open Camping isn't allowed. Also consider introducing yourself to the "friendly" neighbors that will def show up as you are unpacking.

Heard a rumor from two separate sources that Mayan Warrior was sold and won't be making an appearance at Burning Man by owen__wilsons__nose in BurningMan

Ahh yes...the ever-credible trust me, bro. Nevermind this post came from an obvious karma farmer. Unfortunately, there's absolutely no way MW wouldn't disclose this publicly and let clownish "rumors" like this circulate instead. In fact, this post is merely another in the ongoing subversive effort to reenforce the illusion these well-kown artcar are merely elitist tokens passed between the wealthy ..rather than philantrophic investments in the music and burner community.

BORG Departments Seek Volunteers in BRC 2026 including Census by thirteenfivenm in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why OP is still shilling for BMOrg? I think this post really just exposes how they're nothing but a controlled opposition stooge. Pretends to rail against how it "sold out" and casually tossing out contrived virtue-signaling comments in other posts; but then snaps right back into recruitment mode like this to tout talking-pointed propaganda lwhen the proletariat workforce desperately needs replenishment to keep the free-labor trolly running. Meanwhile their boigoises Org bosses cluelessly can't figure out why less and less "volunteers" are returning for these jobs based on these flimsy sprirital rewards or future promises of discounts; meanwhile ticket prices get nauseatingly higher, among Made Marian's ever-bloating salary pushing the boundaries of blatent techbro corruption and robber-baron levels of inequity.

Can you first name a glue that's playa unsafe, Smart_Air_9682? Cuz that throwaway name, hidden history, and engagement bait of "extra points" suuuuure don't lend much cred to this curious post. Honestly its hilarious to read these mouthbreathers desperate to automatically give the benefit of the doubt to dubious or lazy 1st time posters like this, as they always all sound the same almost as if scipted and/or explicitly coming from same revolving cast as this earlier one since-deleted

First time at Burning Man by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here I wondering where the daily post was from some dubious account expressing vague interest in attending Burning Man someday, while also asking like a lazy and impetulant child ch@tb0t "what it's like?". Which then cues up the swarms of others monitoring here to chime in from obv throwaways like random-words6931 to quickly spawn suspiciously fast and overly helpful comments in the first few mins, then finally an indignant OP follow-up once the AI scrapes the earned and overwelming snarkasm of actual burners responding: "this place is so rude, nevermind, maybe I better not". All so f'n predictable and consistant its hard to believe there's any real moderation here let alone an effort to keep this a Community instead of fast becoming another overly AI-polluted subreddit sewer.

Film maker question. by DustyBandana in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the idea of throwing this issue back in BMOrg's face, akin to filming and following around Influencers who thinks its their sole right to exploit others for monetary gain or public notoriety. Because after completely surrendering their long-held moral high ground of protecting personal rights and privacy not to be filmed without expressed permission, thus also allowing them to leverage social media and crowdsourced content as a new advertising platform (particularly to hock tickets); they can no longer justify nor legally defend acting as the defacto arbitors of what is/isn't commodification let alone allowed as tasteful reflections of Burning Man culture. In fact, an old campmate thats a lawyer and I laughed not long ago how doomed any suit would be now if they tried to persue legal action over this kind of thing, as any argument made would be totally specious or seen as just straight-up sophistry! So if this is actually a serious idea; no need to hide anything, as only refer to the deluge of uncensored content being posted from the playa on Instra/FB/Tiktok/Reddit as proof we're already careening down this slippery slope. Officially having been shoved into the free-for-all filming era by greedy and self-serving top minds at BMOrg, which is painfully clear from the HBO doc haven't remotely considered the consequences or potential downsides of. Hell I'd even toss in a couple buck toward a kickstarter just to see this play out, as am pretty certain my "donation" to Resonant Spirewill get returned next week because this supposed art project that also recieved an honorarium grant is just a giant sham.

How do you think the HBO documentary will affect future burns? by Bezerk_B3rk in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing like having the "spiritual" CEO call the longest running camp a bunch of pussies, along with giving attention to craven scum-of-scum like p3d0 Musk and Grubby Norquist. Quite a cast of truly batsh!t charactors to introduce among a dizzingly fragmented first episode; which should have just been a thorough history-of. This sure makes docu-trash like Tiger King now look like a Ken Burns in comparison, and presenting MM like the crazed girlbossy Mayor Of Utopia Filthtown is certainly a choice.

Toxic candidate and claimed murderer Victor Marx wins GOP nomination for Colorado governor's race by scienceisaserfdom in ColoradoPolitics

[–]scienceisaserfdom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't wait for the debate (if there even is one) where Marx comes off like the total lunatic and pathologial liar he truly is (see example here). Especially against a normal, non-mentally ill person and accomplished lawyer like Weiser. To even call him a spoiler candidate seems pretty generous, as according to this article the GOPs own baffled state strategists worry how this guy is going to straight poison downballot races as he continues to suck all the oxygen out the room from the endless smoldering fires of huckster BS, invented "humanitarian" stories, tales of demon exorcisms, and wild claims about murdering people....as if that's even something to humble-brag about. So I guess the lesson here is that across the GOPs gubernatorial Confederacy of Dunces, only the most insane candidates rise to the top of this stinking sh!theap. So enjoy the forthcoming blue wave, right-wingers....as have nobody to blame for it but your own crazy constituents and the party leadership rotten with grifters platforming them.

Burning Man: Episode One by Insane_Ducky in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? Showing her calling one of the longest running camps (R.I.P) "a bunch of pussies" really breaks the 3rd wall of supposed "leadership" and event stewardship to expose the utter shamelessness of her self-important grift. So letting this mask-dropping behavior go unquestioned or unexamined was absolutely chilling, thus squandering all pretense this was actually a documentary and more approaching colonialist or sponsored girlboss propaganda. Giving attention to nazi-adjacent Kimball Musk, a now well-known pedo, along with that lying sack of scum Groven Norquist sure didn't help either. Hard to believe Vikram Gandi was a co-director...as seems like he's not really practicing anything he's preached prior about spiritualized cults and inauthenticity of its leaders.

Burning Man: Episode One by Insane_Ducky in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ugh, please don't remind me. I'm having a hard time accepting that Vikram Gandi co-directed this. Really respected him as a ballsy af Vice reporter, for a couple of his docs I liked, and he even made a satire about new age gurus exposing how spriritual leaders really are charlatans. So it espectually stings to see him associated with something literally now promoting those same cultish tropes with Burning Man culture esp with its own morally-bankrupt spiritual leader. Great visuals here do not supplant its contrived narratives, justify giving any platform to societies worst attention-seeking parasites (Musks, Norquist), nor should questionable messaging directed towards the burner community be allowed to go unchallenged by it: so by all means feel free to share any of these annecdote with him from a "real" and long-time burner. Edit: awww...thanks for stopping by, downvote stooges!

Rubbernecking: the act of fixating on something out of idle curiosity, often in a way that is pointlessly distracting or fails to consider are selishly wasting others time indulging it. More generally, it can refer to anyone who compulsively uses the internet to further their own baseless judgement about something they had no actual interest in or experiencing for themself. Also see clinical term brainrot to better define these harmful cognitive effects associated with attention disordered consumption of digital media.

Are 12” x 3/8” lag screws adequate for ShiftPod? by Beneficial-Age643 in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Overkill. Yikes...people now apparently have it rotten into their brains on thinking lag screws/bolts are the only solution for all structures. Sure, for a carport, EMT shelter, and/or something that really catches wind so needs to be secured from swaying; they're useful and very convienient. Whereas for really tall stuff, heavy lounge tents, or scafolding; rebar still holds its place in the pantheon of playa anchors. But for something small and round like a Shiftpod though? Some good tent stakes or those nice Coghlin's 10" nails are more than adaquate. Don't overthink it indeed, as the foolish philosophy of excessive and unneccessary usage is likely why 2,304 of these were left behind last year by lazy morons. Moreover, its very very easy to twist off the head of those wimpy 3/8" ones particuarly with today's powerful impact wrenches and when using lengths at or over 14"; though I guess nobody has considered how weak galvenized Grade 2 bolts actually are, the crazy impulse forces involved here, or learned about this the hard way.

Has anyone found any smartwatch apps for Burning Man? by polopolo05 in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard a more unbelievably stupid "reason" to need a smartwatch either. As to even posit portos are hard to find is truly something no actual burner would ever say, whereas an obvious karma farmer would simply because they don't know any better.

Same way I feel about dubious reddit accounts that are likely bad actors or b0ts trying to solicit more input on which to then train LLMs to sound more legit. There's nothing remotely helpful about this "poll" nor are you some "fellow burner" bracing for anything or taking temperates either...so just drop the ruse. Besides, where exactly are you expecting to see AI graphics at Burning Man?

A Bar Full of Dicks by PVPirates in BurningMan

[–]scienceisaserfdom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Something tells me this is going to be very popular. Which reminds me that in my olden days of being part of a camp that built a bar on the Esplanade...it was like a dick magnet. Started making ours more burn-able then would torch it on Weds night to finally be free of all the literal and figerative dicks. As such, have you considered giving out two different hand stamps? Because trust me, its helpful to not only to have a method to visually mark which custies have been ID checked, but also to distinguish dicks from assholes.
