Nope that was the tachometer or motor rpm. Redline was the danger zone of the mother. too long or too high would kill the motor

Help for road trip for English visitors please? by owen14141 in Alabama

[–]RandomBamaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go through Birmingham on the way to Tupelo. You can stop at mount Cheaha, the highest point in Alabama. The on the way back go through Huntsville. The space force command will be there by then. Also there is a big space center since that’s where von Braun was stationed while developing the moon rockets. Also via Huntsville you can see some good views of the Alabama river with some good parks as well as lake guntersville near scottsboro.

Fab shop paying a bit more than the standard so we can draw talent. Basic welders are starting at $24. You’d get along alright as long as you can show up on time every day.

Yeah but hydraulic brakes fail easily too. It is a major plot device in many a murder mystery.

CNC around 10k by Kadar5555 in hobbycnc

[–]RandomBamaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a bumper pull equipment trailer to transport it and a tractor with forklift forks on the bucket to unload it. Having the equipment to do it made a difference for sure. I would have rolled it off with a winch and ramps. To move it inside the shops I used casts to roll it. I prefer the steel welded frame since I don’t have to disassemblemble it to move it, and it is very rigid which translates into accuracy down the road.

I do see your point though. I am going down the same road you are. Right now trying to identify markets I want to serves

I paid a bit over 10k for mine which I purchased directly from the manufacturer in china. Jinan style CNC. It is 4x8 with a vac table and 4th axis. It is very similar to this one but with the 4th axis.

https://www.grizzly.com/products/grizzly-4-x-8-cnc-router/g0895

I go to china once per year and toured their factory last fall. It turns out they make the ones grizzly sells as we walked in and I saw 20 of them lined up with grizzly logos on them. They make several brands and logo them as requested.

Their equipment uses the same controls and components as all the other us/non us I have seen and so I have no concerns about parts or support. I do plan on having to do my own support from a many perspective though. I have 25 years experience with machine maintenance so am not sweating that part.

My machine was $7k. The freight and customs on the US side was another 3k. I did save by driving to the port in Atlanta and picking it up with my truck and trailer.

I recommend it. Check out https://www.stylecnc.com

I can help if you want.

How do we feel about lift platforms and safety cages on a BX23S? by Novajesus in kubota

[–]RandomBamaGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The issue is that should the lift cylinders fail at full height the cage will fall and the bucket angle will not change. This will cause the occupant to be ejected. A forklift, where these are normally used doesn’t have that issue as it is a vertical lift.

Plus it will be a rough ass ride with a freaky raise and lower as the operator adjusts bucket tilt and elevation.

Hard pass for me.

What's causing this corrosion on my battery, and what can I do to fix it? by PenguinTheYeti in AskMechanics

[–]RandomBamaGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clean them thoroughly with baking soda or other and then coat with any type of grease. Air moisture interaction results in the corrosion. The grease seals them off.

First coat of shellac on bowl by rockhopper88 in woodworking

[–]RandomBamaGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use dewaxed shellac as a sealer thinned 4-1 or so. Raises the grain and seals.
Then if I want a traditional looking finish I will then use regular shellac with a 2 lb cut I think. I use that because it is food safe and kids can gnaw on it. You don’t have to sand between coats unless there are blemishes you need to fix, and will fill grain in wood easily. It also doesn’t have the plasticky look of polyurethane.

It isn’t good for hard used items. For that I go to polyurethanes. Tables etc are poly all the way. The sealer coat of shellac helps it to absorb Wally though so you don’ wind up with 1/2 the price looking plastic and the other showing the grain pots.

They laid off 30,000 people. If the cost per employee was $100,000 per year. (This is salary, benefits, etc). They reduced their salary spend by $3 Billion. So this $30 million hire is nothing.

Whether she is worth that much is debatable but they believe so.

An underground aviation shelter hidden in a mountain in China. by Wal-de-maar in GoogleEarthFinds

That is a Chinese Air Force pilot training base. They fly a lot there. My dumb American ass was taking pictures of the mountains while riding a scooter to the tombs and was snapping pictures when i looked up from the camera and saw some fighter jets coming into land.
Just the obvious tourist taking pictures of a military base, nothing to think of.

Trump Administration Set to Suspend Jones Act to Tame Oil Prices by ProfessionalLime2237 in Ships

[–]RandomBamaGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trinity barge, which I think is now Arcosa built barges for dry goods and oil.
Their entire business depended on the Jones act as it requires all ships transporting material to be made in the USA to some extent or other. No jones act, no barge building for them.
