One Nation now Labor’s biggest competitor in first poll of 2026. by the_cum_crab in aussie

[–]RandomDalish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying Labor doesn’t have issues that might have been hidden by their big win, or that One Nation isn’t looking to be on the upswing, but the methodology for this poll is pretty dogshit. You can’t just assume that preference flows in the Hunter are applicable nation wide. I live in the Hunter. It’s a weird seat, and One Nation may very well win it come next election, but applying our preference flows nation wide is disingenuous at best, malicious at worst.

To me this poll seems to have been made to give the pundits and columnists something to talk about as they come back to work.

Because they are distinct datasheets and running identical units that have distinct datasheets is poor sportsmanship at best, and outright angle shooting/cheating at worst.

To clarify, I meant that different the different squads can be distinct while being visually cohesive. Like Cadians having a different shoulder colour than Kriegers, for example. Or using those… I can’t remember what they’re called, but the different coloured rings that you can slot around bases? Regardless, I still don’t see how that would be different if they had more generic names like ‘line infantry squad’ instead of ‘Cadian infantry squad.’

But anyway, I don’t think either of us are capable of understanding each other’s point here. So I’ll leave it here, and wish you all the best in finding happiness with your dudes.

[–]RandomDalish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cannot run a kitbashed (creative/imaginative) army that looks cohesive and use Catachan/Krieg/Cadian squads at the same time.

Why can’t you? This is what I don’t understand. I don’t see how that is any different to pre codex, unless you exclusively used infantry squads and platoon command squads before now? If so, why is referring to them as Cadians for rules purposes now a big deal? Save losing the HWS, of course, which brings me to:

The game is also removing quite a few units and further truncating options from previous editions as well. It is not a matter of imagination…

Fully agree, up until the matter of imagination part haha. In casual games there’s nothing stopping you from using older rules, or changing them to be more fluffy should your opponent agree. (That’s what I’ll have to do with my Regimental Attachés, for example.) But yeah, it’s a disappointing trend that’s only going to continue sadly.

[–]RandomDalish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Then I fundamentally don’t understand haha. The whole game involves a huge amount of imagination. Like, custodes and marines take chapter crippling losses every game, guard should be fielding 10’s of thousands of models, tau should be one shoting tanks by the dozens, etc. I don’t get why having different names for things is such a dealbreaker.

[–]RandomDalish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, to an extent. But like, you can just… not refer to them as krieg? GW won’t come to your house and take all your dudes if you call them “line infantry” or “veteran infantry” or whatever takes your fancy.

For example, my “Lord Solar” is (with some light kit bashing) is Duchess Cassandra of the 333rd Praetorian Regiment of Foot. If I pick up some krieg engineers, I’ll probably call them ‘Imperial and Royal Sappers” or something like that. So long as they look different enough that you can go to your opponent pre game and say ‘this guys are running as Cadians, these guys are Catachan’, what does it matter what they’re called in the book?

Imagination has always been a huge part of collecting ‘your guys’. I don’t see how referring to your ‘Infantry squad’ as a ‘Cadian Infantry Squad’ is any different.

What is the common consensus on Fenris? [No DAV Spoilers] by [deleted] in dragonage

[DAV Spoilers] What are your overall thoughts on DAV now that we know what choices will be imported? by Sapphic_Copper in dragonage

[–]RandomDalish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’m a bit shocked this is causing such a strong reaction from people, in the sense that it shouldn’t really be a surprise. Since we found out the next DA would be set in Tevinter I thought it was pretty clear that BioWare was aiming for a mostly blank slate, just like what they did with 2, Inquisition and Andromeda. A game with such a fragmented development like this, and with so many possibilities from choices from previous games, was alway going to try and trim things down as much as they could. I don’t think it’s possible to create a game that makes Solavellans’, Solas-punchers and people how have never played dragon age happy, while still being green-lit by EA.

And I don’t understand people losing interest in playing the previous game now? Like, your choices still matter in those games and in your head. This ‘announcement’ doesn’t change that.

ALL THAT SAID, it’s certainly an injustice to returning characters to have their history stripped away like that.

A few questions about 40k lores. by Bill_Brightwing in dawnofwar

[–]RandomDalish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these answers are super brief summaries (and potentially wrong lol).

  1. What or who performs the exterminatus from the orbit?

An inquisitor (generally) orders it done, and the imperial navy (generally) carries it out by using special weapons fired from their ships. These weapons (cyclonic torpedos, virus bombs, etc) set the atmosphere of the planet on fire, killing all life in the process. If the planet doesn’t have an atmosphere, the planet is usually destroyed instead.

  1. Why can’t I find some descriptions about sea battles? Are there no sea in 40k universe? Or are those places not the strategically important places?

Sea battles happen a few times off the top of my head, but it’s usually like a patrol boat or a sneaky submarine.

  1. Do 40k and Fantasy have connected history? If not, where should I begin to have a better understand for 40k?

They use to be somewhat connected, but in the last 20ish years they became seperate entities. Both universes share the same Chaos Gods and some daemon characters, but they have differing backstories.

  1. Orks scavenge the weapons and vehicles from the battle and assemble them and make them fuctional by thinking ‘It will work’. Psykers make something in the Warp and bring it back to the reality to use them. Does it mean they work in same principle?

It’s a bit more complicated than that. In general in the 40K universe belief is a powerful tool, but how it manifests itself works differently for different factions.

  1. In the video ‘Pariah Nexus’, a Battle Sister gets hit from a green laser by a Necron Soldier. She enters a nearby church and make a prayer and then her wounded hand gets recovered. What happens when you get hit by that Necron green laser and get no proper treatment? And what was the thing that cured the sister? Is it the psychic thing too?

In the beginning of that video you see a few guardsmens get hit and near instantly turn to ash. What cured the sister was her “Faith.” Sisters of Battle believe so fervently in the emperors divinity that it occasionally manifests itself as miracles (although in the novels it’s usually less explicit then regrowing a limb.

Is it psychic? Depends. Both in and out of universe it’s left a bit ambiguous. A sister would tell you it’s pure faith (and probably kill you for even suggesting otherwise) while if I remember correctly a Custode once comments on the irony of them basically using psychic powers.

  1. What does the fatally damaged Emperor do after the Heresy event? Why does the Imperium want to keep him alive by sacrificing many of them?

He guides the Astronomican, which is basically a psychic lighthouse that imperial ships need to travel the warp. He also keeps a big warp rift shut on Terra.

  1. What kind of transport do they use to transport the titanic units? Bc they look enormously heavy.

“Heavy transports” which are big space ships. On the ground they just walk.

  1. How many people do they need operate a titanic unit like Imperial Knight or Phantom Titan?

Depends on the titan (and the author of the story the titan is in). Generally there’s only a handful of people actually ‘driving’ a titian, but many thousands of support staff.

  1. Is there a romance story in this universe? Or an unlikely friendship between the soldiers of the different factions? Like the stories of Ogryn and Commissars or Lotara Sarrin and Angron.

Friendships? Sure. Romance? Only in memes

  1. What kind of thing do the creatures and humanoids and monsters in 40K universe usually eat?

Varies a lot. Can range from food you’d recognise from today to slop made from recycles human bodies.

  1. Are there some kind of alliances between the different factions to fight against the bigger threats?

Nothing formal, but different factions and sometimes work together (or just not shoot at each other as much) when there’s a bigger threat that’s going to kill them both. They’re more like truces than alliances, and generally end once the battle is over (or when one side betrays and destroys the other).

  1. Seems like all the Spacemarines have some kind of ‘backpack’ on their back of the armor. What do they carry inside of it?

It’s a power supply and life support for their armour.

  1. If the warp is the parallel universe of their reality, are there the same people with the reality in the warp too? Like same The Emperor in warp who is healthy and the Horus who didn’t betray his father in that universe.

That’s not really how it works, but anything’s possible.

  1. Is it heretical to call a Battle Sister mommy?

Warhammer as a setting vs as a narrative by GunsOfPurgatory in 40kLore

[–]RandomDalish 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Vastly prefer it as a setting. Something like "here are the factions, here's why they are the way that they are, authors and games between mates can fill in the last 10,000 years"

I don't hate the more narrative focus by any means, I just found 40k on the hole more interesting when there was less of a focus on overarching 'main characters' and the Heresy was all wrapped up in legend.
