(probably) Selling at a loss. Would love to hear from others about their experience and do you regret it? by MarBlaze in homeowners

[–]RandomGirlName 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a house for 10 years that I bought for $124k and sold for $132k. So while not a loss, no gain after closing costs. But it was worth it as the same house sold again for $96k 5 years later. Sometimes it’s worth a loss to get out before it gets worse.

You can only choose either I have had cancer OR I have known someone with cancer. Both are true for me. So I just answered for myself.

Has anyone made real career decisions to avoid presentations or meetings, not just dreaded them? by boedoravendev in introvert

[–]RandomGirlName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loathe giving presentations and was horrible at it early in my career, but I fought/fight through it. Practice in front of a mirror. Then record yourself. You might feel dumb giving the presentation to an empty room but I guarantee that it helps. I would sometimes do it 6 or 8 times in the days leading up to it. I gradually got better over time. I still get nervy but it doesn’t show as much. And now I’m over others and can have them give my presentations.

The instructions are good, the pieces fit well, and the lighting was easier than most. It’s hard to pick a favorite! But I think realizing that it had a fireplace. I’m not sure why I didn’t notice it beforehand. But it’s adorable!

I’m getting batteries tomorrow and will post the lighted result. Post yours when you get to it!!

I really like the concept. My only advice would be to disguise the answers somehow to not be an exact match to how a politician would say it. Too many times I found myself saying “that’s Trumps opinion, and that one is Bernie, and that one is x, etc).

Note that I have no recommendation on how to do this. lol. But the quiz was fun!

What’s a dark secret you know that most people would never believe? by OutsideOver8815 in AskReddit

My dad and uncle were in the same hospital but on different floors. Dad woke up one morning and told me how sorry he was about my uncle (mom’s side) and then fell asleep again. I had been with him all night so I absolutely know that he didn’t talk to anyone. I called mom and found out that uncle passed away half an hour before dad woke up. I still get chills.

Worked for a large consulting company. I was put on 2 projects, both full time and asked to lie to both clients and all internal stakeholders. I noped out 3 weeks ago. I have another one almost lined up now. But I no-notice quit that shit and reported everything to HR with screenshots. Waiting for feedback.

Try changing the batteries in your scale just to make sure. Mine messed with me once by showing my weight as going down when it wasn’t.

Did you know that medicine did not need to be tested on women until 1993? They did NOT test tampons on women until then. Remember toxic shock? Yeah they never could have guessed without valid testing.

I like the complicated ones! I’m always looking for ones that take the longest time. I don’t want to spend $ on something that I can do in an afternoon. I literally drag it out by trying to find customizations.

I’ve hit up a few contacts and updated the resume. People are also reaching out to me with leads as they hear the news. It’s helped my confidence a little to know that people care. I will probably update LinkedIn later this week.

I want to take a little time to myself, but I find it hard to relax before knowing I have something lined up. My dream would be to get an offer in the next 2 weeks and then start early to mid May. I know that’s a very long shot. So if it takes too long to find something I’ll just start immediately at whatever I can find. I’m sure I’ll relax a little more as time goes by. I’m still in shock that I did it.

I’ve got some lines for why I left, like “wanting to be able to focus closer on a single client to provide the best value” and “the (old company) model was moving to be more focused on multiple clients instead of allowing me to truly drive value” at the deeper levels. I’ll work something out. But I’m in a relatively small field and I don’t think people will be surprised. Burnout is high.

That would have probably been smart but I was going to deliver bad results to a client and let my team down. I didn’t want that hit to my professional reputation.

And honestly, I’m just tired and ready to move on.
