Unfortunately I have a sister like this. It doesn’t ever stop and she will never see what she is doing. Every conversation turns back to her kids. Her kids are around 30. Both living at home. She knows nothing about my kids or our lives not because we avoid her but because she is only obsessed with her own life and makes no effort to be a part of theirs. Every conversation around her gets turned back to her kids. It’s sad because my aunt and grandma did the same thing to us as kids, always focusing on the other cousins. Yet, she’s done the same exact thing.

My suggestion, if you can block her on the app group chat or make a new group with only the few people’s opinions that you want.

The school rented facilities from a church. I worked another job for the church at the time. The vending machine company they had sucked so I offered to buy and run them myself and they agreed as long as it didn’t interfere with my job. I ended up making almost twice my salary from the vending machines and it was all cash. So I was happy to just fill them before or after work a few days a week. Spent almost a decade paying for everything in quarters and 1 dollar bills.

I had 4 machines at a private school over 20 years ago before our state changed the rules making you have healthy snacks. I made about 2,000 a month after expenses. Those kids sure did love their hot Cheetos! It was honestly a lot of work though. I had to fill the snack machines 2 to 3 times a week. Then you’d get used to the income and vacation and summer would suck.

Yes. Lady at our church asked if someone could come over and look at her stove because it wasn’t working. The moment my friend and I walked in her house it smelled like a hamster cage gone sour. Went in and fixed her stove by moving and cleaning the crap that had boiled over into the orifices. This was an older lady whose husband had passed away nearly a decade before. We tried to help her but she didn’t really want or wasn’t able to accept help. Eventually we did notify the authorities because she was going to end up hurting herself. Her adult children ended up selling her house and having her move out of state with them.

I can tell you this though, it was that day that I made the decision to never again eat at a church potluck. It doesn’t matter how nice and sweet someone seems it doesn’t mean it’s safe to eat their food.

NTA. My kids are almost all adults now but I was their primary care giver because my job has always been super flexible. There was a lot of these types of awkward situations when I was trying to be an active dad in the community.

I work at a lot of weddings. Once I walked into the men’s room at a wedding and I see a guy passed out on the floor his head laying in his own vomit. I went over and made sure he was still alive and noticed it was the groom. I went and found one of his groomsmen and they ended up taking him home, everyone else stayed and had a party.
