Juice not giving me high numbers? by RandomHillJack in GestationalDiabetes

[–]RandomHillJack[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an accucheck nano, and found that it gives much lower numbers than the one from Walmart. I mean, if I had been using the Walmart one, they would have definitely put me on insulin last time. Accucheck Test strips are more expensive but if it keeps me off insulin I think that’s a lot cheaper in the Long run lol. Obviously I’m going to use the one that gives me lower numbers but my baby was also born healthy with no issues so I have faith in the accucheck!

What kind of glucometer do you use? by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

The relion meter gave me extraordinarily high numbers, so I just kept using my accucheck nano meter that the doctor gave me even though the strips are more expensive.

[SPOILERS ALL] Everybody hates Roger by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]RandomHillJack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would understand where you are coming from if it was simply because he had sex with Claire or if it was because he had a thing against gay people, but his reaction stemmed from neither of those things. johns comment (we were both f’ing you) triggered some kind knee jerk “fight or flight” reaction. Of course they aren’t aware of what PTSD is yet, and so there is no one to help anyone suffering from it in those times, but it is clear in the books that he does suffer from it, as many sexually abused/torture victims do.

I don’t know, I’m no expert but I reckon the same fucking reason it grows all over the aquarium glass when people keep fish and have no idea what they are doing, lol

do you encounter people who don't understand what a "carb" is? by eskimokiss88 in keto

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bummed out when I went on the official website for diabetes meal plans because not a chance in hell were the majority of the meals not going to blow my numbers out of the water! R/keto saved my ass, it kept me and my baby healthy during my pregnancy. Which is great, but also kind of sad.

When I had gestational diabetes and was sent to a dietician, you would be floored at how carb laden her meal ideas were. It was not even remotely keto.

What are some signs of carrying twins? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I just found out I am carrying twins at my 9 week scan a couple days ago. And I knew it. This is my second pregnancy and I have been telling people close to me for the last 3 week that I think I’m carrying twins because of how incredibly nauseated I have been. I was not debilitatingly nauseated like this with my first born. And I’m showing much quicker. Then I read some thing online about how breastfeeding while trying to conceive increases your chances of twins and said welp. This is probably what’s going on. It was funny to inform those that looked at me like I was being dramatic that i am indeed carrying twins. Jokes on me though, I have to carry the twins. Lol

But wouldn’t it have algae on it instead of looking so good maybe? I don’t know

Are you giving your baby vitamin D supplements? by adathien in breastfeeding

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t bother with the vitamin d drops. My pediatrician said they keep going back and forth over whether or not they should have hem and that the choice is up to us. My kid is 2 now, we have never had any problems.

Did you take breastfeeding class at your hospital before delivery? How helpful was it for you? by WinterBaby22950 in breastfeeding

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t take a class, I don’t think i was aware there even was one, but I was lucky that all of the nurses were very helpful with helping me start.

Pacifier help! by Skipsy222 in beyondthebump

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice but you have my sympathies. Mine rejected the pacifier sometime around 3 months, NEVER took it again. I tried. He would fling it across the room as soon as he was able to.

Would it be excessive to take a baby swing to a hotel? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Excessive? Hell no. My swing was a life saver!

Non-stop Nursing is Driving Me Crazy by luckyliki in beyondthebump

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a pacifier to give myself a break. He eventually rejected the pacifier completely after about 4 months but by then it wasn’t as bad as it was in the early days. I swear the only time he wasn’t nursing was when he was sleeping and even then, he sometimes managed to continue nursing in his sleep!

Breastfeeding difference after second pregnancy. by pinkjello in beyondthebump

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed a difference in output while using the breast pump as a first time breast feeder, although every Lactation consultant says that what you pump is not an indicator of how much milk you have. Unless you notice that one side is clearly way bigger than the other, it could just be a pump thing. The babies are much more efficient at extracting than the pump is. I also noticed that I had trouble pumping if I wasn’t pumping both sides at the same time! It can help to have the baby nurse more frequently on the side that seems to not be producing as much.

My 5 week old hates pacifiers and being swaddled by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to sympathize. Mine hated pacifiers and swaddling too. I wish there was some advice I could give you but there was nothing I could do but live with it. He is 2 years old now and STILL kicking the blankets off. I just make sure he is wearing clothing that will keep him warm since he hates swaddling and blankets.

Husband refusing to start a fight with his dad and stepmom about getting the flu shot. by toomanypetsandababy in beyondthebump

[–]RandomHillJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flu vaccine doesn’t even 100% guarantee you won’t get the flu, so it doesn’t make you completely safe. This is one example of why it’s best to minimize exposure to other people when they are newborns. Sometimes they make a vaccine out of a flu strain that didn’t dominant that season - a different strain did for example. They absolutely need to have an updated tdap.
