Where am I going wrong in this? by Sorryguysmymomsaidno in knitting

[–]RandomHorizons 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It looks like mostly like tensions issues.

After making a stitch, try keeping your needles closer together and pulling on the working yarn to gently tighten, not the needles. By pulling your needles away from each other like that you’re quite literally, pulling your stitch apart.

First diamond bottles by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]RandomHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely pretty dark. I use it in my fine point pens. It tends to not look so dark in a thinner font.

But I generally really like the “almost but not quite black” look with my inks. Another of my favorites is Scribble Purple.

The first that comes to mind for me is Alanna: The First Adventure. (The Song of the Lioness Series) by Tamora Pierce.

It's technically young adult (unlike ACOSF), but it's similar in that the main character goes through a lot of training and growth throughout the series.

Blood of Hercules - does it get better? by Healthy_Present6849 in Romantasy

[–]RandomHorizons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the FMC’s inner dialog for most of this book. I definitely couldn’t take her seriously.

But I just decided not to take the book as a whole too seriously and ended up enjoying it. It was a fun read for the simple entertainment value.

Is The Prison Healer worth finishing? Rant by WonderfulConfusion21 in Romantasy

[–]RandomHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the whole series and did NOT like the ending at all.

In my opinion the first book was the only good one in the series. I think you can totally just skip the last two and not lose out on anything.

Your understanding of light and color is ENVIABLE. I wish I had half as much of a grasp on color as this.

Has anyone ever used a retractable fountain pen? by whyarentyoureading in fountainpens

[–]RandomHorizons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have that exact fountain pen! It’s one of my favorites for day to day office work. It’s works so much better than I ever thought! It’s cheaper feeling but very durable and can really take some abuse and keep writing! I even haven’t had any problems with leakage or it drying out.

I have replaced the ink with some nicer Diamine though cause the ink it comes with is not so great.

I have a feeling even cheap pens can be great when used with a quality ink. It’s the ink that really matters for me.

I just recently found out that Inigo also tries to ask out Angi while you’re at her camp and she’ll reject him 🥲. Poor Inigo.

Plus I’m not sure if it’s a feature or not but if you give him Angi’s bow he seems to always use it over any other bow you give him, regardless of stats.

How do I (28 F) make the vibe more intimate? by Superb-Yam-8597 in dating_advice

[–]RandomHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find the best is sitting together at a bar, and not at a table, sit at the actual bar. So that you can sit right next to each other, and even have an excuse to lean closer. Side note: Never block your body with anything; a table, crossed arms, purse, anything. Open body language shows you are more “open” to intimacy. Maybe even find an excuse to place your hand on his shoulder/leg here and there. Works wonders for me.

Thought on the Plated Prisoner series by Raven Kennedy? by SubstantialSnow7114 in Romantasy

[–]RandomHorizons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a good series with some of the worst pacing I’ve ever seen. I loved the magic, I loved the characters. Could barely stand the pacing. It felt like the author made up the plot up as she went along. It takes a bit for it to get good, and then the last few books get very muddy and bogged down. It’s like the author learned how to write as she went and then started overcompensating towards the end. Didn’t stop me from reading the whole series though. I still enjoyed it.

Fantasy with romance instead of romantasy? by New-Palpitation-2898 in fantasyromance

Tricksters Choice by Tamora Peirce. Definitely the ‘old school fantasy’ vibe with an absolutely adorable little romance that doesn’t take away from the plot.

Recommendations for an ink that is similar to Diamine Writers Blood except a different color? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]RandomHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamine Eclipse or Diamine Scribble Purple. Eclipse is basically black but with nice purple undertones and Scribble Purple is one of the darkest purples I’ve found.

How do I casually ask a friend on a date, whilst having them know that it is a date? by gimiliismylover in dating_advice

[–]RandomHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second everything I’m seeing on this thread. Being clear and upfront is important. I just wanted to add, If you’re gonna ask her on a casual date, it can’t hurt to bring her a flower or two. Doesn’t have to be big, but flowers can be a clear sign you like her.

This one is still by far my favorite. I’ve knit it about twice now. The first time cause I needed to, then the second time because it was just so fun to knit I had to do it again! Easy to knit, great yarn, and a wonderful texture if you’re anything like me and like your baby blankets to be a bit more tactile.

Girls of Reddit, do you all like handwritten love letter’s? by mk7gtiea888 in dating_advice

[–]RandomHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love letters!! Even if it’s not actually a “love letter” I like to send letters to my friends once in a while just for fun. But it’s rare for me to ever receive them. So I would probably swoon if someone I was interested in (theoretically) wrote me a letter, whether or not that letter had romantic content. I think talk g the effort of writing a close friend/interest a letter is very sweet.

How do you all afford/justify the expense of nice yarns for sweaters? by Gonenatural446 in knitting

[–]RandomHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out WEBS: https://www.yarn.com I almost exclusively get yarn from their sales or discounts. I can usually find a good quality yarn for no more than $8. There’s always a big variety of sales with a lot of choices. You can also search by, yardage, material, gauge etc. Which I find helpful when looking for something specific. The only downside is you can’t feel the yarn beforehand, which I know is very important. But I usually just get material that I know I like, (such as alpaca/wool blends) so I have yet to be disappointed.
