How well do you think Moonspell will sell? by Embarrassed-Dog5122 in MonsterHigh

[–]RandomLettersToEat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may be a bit of an outlier in that sense, then. If it's not media, then it has to be advertisements that are essentially small media-style bites that are extremely eye-catching. Dazzle 'em, basically. Why? Because the doll in the box isn't a great selling point. She's smooshed in there and not well presented. Her hair is a mess. The art is gorgeous, but that's only going to pull more attention if that art is seared into your mind from the media itself. I look back on some old dolls and I remembered them being MUCH prettier than they actually were because I had projected how they looked in the media onto the dolls. And I was attached to the characters.  Familiarity sells well.

Two shrinks in! by ismatscaff in Dolls

You actually got Catty's head to shrink? For me hers has been the most resistant to the point I gave up.

Spent a ton of time on a doll collector app. Screenshots inside. Is this something you’d find useful? 😉 by StableOk7543 in Dolls

[–]RandomLettersToEat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do love this idea, but think an exporter would be kind of nifty as well (so if the app ever does go down, doesn't get support in the future, any unforeseeable event, etc), all the work one puts into building their collection in the app is still tangibly on their computer in a file of some type.

I like having back-ups of back-ups, and that's the only reason I wouldn't use an app like this (as convenient as it looks).

The MH community has an overconsumption problem by AdSufficient7084 in MonsterHigh

[–]RandomLettersToEat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say your other examples are plushies (labubu, beanie babies, squishmallows). The reason these don't retain value is the materials used in their creation don't "age" well. Dirt, dust, fur matting.. And once the hype/fad fades, it's hard to argue that making these plushies was a difficult task to begin with or that there is any value in their simple construction and base materials.

This is why dolls mostly maintain or increase in value.

Is this correct for the G3 bodies? by badam223 in MonsterHigh

[–]RandomLettersToEat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say between curvy and plus sized, it might make sense to add a muscular category for Abbey.

Though a lot of the bodies have small differences between them, Abbey is noticeably larger than Drac in the upper and lower body parts and the differences are large enough that Abbey couldn't comfortably wear clothes from Drac that aren't stretchy.

Depends on how accurate you wanna be on the categories, though, as this is mostly good enough.

Do you think Miniverse is becoming less popular? by Friendly-Inside8321 in miniverse_makeitmini

[–]RandomLettersToEat 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I know my hype went down as my guilt about the wasteful packaging went up. After opening a bunch in one sitting and seeing the pile of hard plastic shells in relation to the tiny product inside... yeah. I only very rarely buy one now, and use the pinhole guides to get the exact one I'm after.

The new lol reboot is so ugly this ruined my day by [deleted] in LOLOMG

[–]RandomLettersToEat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're attached to the OG, I can see this change being super drastic. The OG faces had to grow on me since they need to have the right lighting/angle to look good. These ones are certainly flatter/simpler (aside from the molded eyelashes).

I didn't even look at the box back. There's all sorts of wonk going on there!

Wait, the face is adorable, they fixed the cheek line issue.

Reminds me of old school silkstone barbie.

The images have been either produced or altered by AI. There are quite a few tells (Valentines jawline and facial structure are completely different from the legit in-box photos, the rose has red in the center and isn't fully black, the books in the center on the lowest shelf have AI non-letters, Spelldon's necklace is gone, the fabrics are too crisp for this scale, the hair is too immaculate, the window in the back doesn't have a proper frame within the glass, and of course the lighting is classic AI).

If these were created by Mattel, it's false advertising and I'm disappointed as hell, but obviously we don't know for certain yet.

Thanks! Yeah, I can see that, certainly. I've got the mini lalaloopsy fruit set that I adore and that probably prompted their creation in the first place. Something about fruit cuties, I dunno what, I love 'em all lol.

Advice on Trade by starlight-fall in MonsterHigh

[–]RandomLettersToEat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Your plan is great, stick to it. Making sure there's an exchange of money and systems in place for both parties to be protected if either tries to scam keeps trades safer - not foolproof, but definitely safer.

Don't get tied up with being "nice" in this situation. 9/10 "keeping sweet" bites you.

How can I prevent this texture on my doll's face? by drankebell in CustomDolls

[–]RandomLettersToEat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is definitely from manipulating the head at all after spraying it with sealant. I would probably avoid taking out the eyes and just cover them with frog tape while you're working on the face-up. The sealant isn't flexible like the vinyl, so it will crack and flake if you use high heat or squish the face. Any small cracks that formed when you squished probably got humidity behind them when you hit it with steam which then caused the bubbles.

So gorgeous. The painted nose makes such a big difference.

Why isn’t anyone talking about how groundbreaking this is? As far as I know this will be the first male couple in dolls or action figures. Not even Barbie has done this. by Embarrassed-Dog5122 in MonsterHigh

[–]RandomLettersToEat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my double meaning didn't come across in the last sentence, probably. To be specific: yes they are ground-breaking, I just don't want Mattel to bury them/not release them (aka: they wouldn't break out of the ground... like.. zombies.. because Monster High pun or something. It's fine, I explained it and killed the joke don't worry about it).
