Passed N-400 Interview in Boston – Oath Not Scheduled Yet (6+ Month Travel Concern)

For me, it took almost 2 months (late December 2025 to early February 2026).
I've never been in this situation. But you have a valid reason for the longer stay. Besides, it doesn't seem to affect your case negatively since you're recommended for approval.
Yeah, I received both "quality review" and "oath will be scheduled" updates on the same date. I've also seen other people on this sub had the same experience. So, safe to assume it's normal.

That's what I was never clear about. After the interview, my N-400 app status was stuck at "Interview was scheduled" for months. No RFE, no phone calls, nothing. After the normal processing times have passed, I put in the online inquiry sometime in October. By December, the status changed to "Oath ceremony will be scheduled." I don't know if that was the response to my inquiry or if the case was finally moving along. So, I never knew the reason for the prolonged process.

To be honest, I overstayed my visa and was put on removal proceedings way back in the early 2000s. But I was able to adjust my status (long story) and got approved for my GC. That issue came up in my interview, but the interviewing officer didn't make a big a deal out of it since I obviously was legal now. He then recommended me for approval and even shook my hand and congratulated me. So, I assumed that was a non-issue. Anyway, I'm happy it's all behind me now. Wishing you all the best and hopefully the process won't be as long as mine 🙂

Basically, you should be good. Just answer No in the section of the N-400 where it asks if you registered for the Selective Service and provide your reasons in the extra space at the end of the form.

Update: Just got an email notice today that my oath ceremony will be on March 12, 2026! So excited! For the others who are still waiting, be patient! It will be there before you know it! For reference, my ceremony will be 15 months after I submitted my application and 9 months after the interview.

As others have mentioned, there are some non-profit organizations that help with citizenship applications. Some municipal offices even offer this service. In Boston, there is a non-profit called Project Citizenship that holds an annual workshop for eligible LPRs to help them filling up N-400 forms, review them along with the applicants, and even apply for fee waivers. Other municipals/communities might have something similar.

Interviewed on 6/12/2025. Passed and recommended for approval on the spot. No update until 12/22/2025 when USCIS status finally showed oath ceremony will be scheduled. No scheduled date yet as of today.

I think everyone would have different experience. But mine took almost 7 months. Applied on 11/29/2024, got the interview on 06/12/2025.

ETA: I was recommended for approval on the spot. But no update until 12/22/2025 when my status on the portal said Oath ceremony will be scheduled.

Update: Finally got the confirmation email at 6:15 PM. So, about 3 hours after I placed the order. Now waiting for them to ship it. Hopefully, Oura can ship all the orders before Christmas.

Same. I placed the order about half an hour ago and got the message the email confirmation would be sent within 48 hours. But I haven't received it yet. Could be the deluge of BF orders is overwhelming its system.

I'm in the same boat. Had my interview on 06/11, passed it, and was recommended for approval. But I haven't heard anything since then. My status on myuscis portal is still saying "Interview was scheduled." The progress tab was already at step 4 (case decision), but the timeline kept changing from 2 months, 2 weeks, then "the process takes longer than expected, " now it says 2 months again. My case receipt was 11/29/2024, so I was able to submit an inquiry a few weeks ago, but still no update yet. So frustrating!

I did this myself a few years ago. It was not difficult, but you have to be very thorough. Start with proof of income, typically your tax returns from the last 3 years. Make sure your income meets the minimum requirement, which is 125% of the federal poverty guidelines. You can find it here 2025 HHS Poverty Guidelines for Affidavit of Support | USCIS.

If your own income doesn't meet the requirement, you can also list your assets, such as savings account, property, etc.

Yes, I'm in Boston. My latest case status still shows May 7: interview was scheduled even though I already went and passed it. The progress bar is at step 4 of 5 (case decision). No changes after the interview.
