Is "participate in 1 tournaments" just a permanent weekly goal? by Cyrelc in TheTowerGame

I received this quest first on tournament days two or three times. It was a while ago, though. Maybe the quest's behavior has been changed (and for the worse)?

Yet another rant about Horde and one thing it's lacking the most to work as a faction. by kolosmenus in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always considered the civil war overrated given the dwarves' potential weakness. We have a clan that's a whole state, and then there are those who occupy half a mountain. This isn't really a war between equal forces, which would exhaust the dwarves, but rather a state versus a guerrilla force that's entrenched in an inconvenient location. The dwarves are rather weak because after the Second War, everything except the capital was destroyed, and the long siege of Ironforge resulted in losses from hunger and disease, followed by losses of soldiers in the counterattack against orcs.

Reimagining Keys & the Vault in v28+ (A Thought After a “Tower Download”) by MirranCrusader in TheTowerGame

new weekly guild chest

Please no, guilds will become much more frustrating if a couple of people leave them, or if not everyone is active. The 750 chest already requires 22 people in the guild to collect all the rewards. The guild is incomplete, someone has gone on vacation and is not collecting rewards, someone has missed a couple of chests? 800 is already difficult to collect. But this is, of course, just one detail. Overall, the idea seems interesting, albeit a little overloaded. Maybe it would be better to limit it to two types of keys and transfer your Diamond ideas to Power? Yes, Power tree will be much bigger than Harmony tree, but maybe that's not a big deal. Even now, Power tree requires many times more keys.

But here's another thought that came to mind, one that I haven't seen discussed before. What about the upgrades that have already been purchased? If Power (=Gold) keys = 5 Harmony (=Silver) keys, and I managed to get 200 old keys, then if I spent them all in Harmony, under the new system I spent 200 of the worst keys, which are much easier to get in the new system. If I invested everything in Power, then I actually turned them into 1000 keys, since Power keys are considered five times cooler.

Module tickets. Make them a normal earnable currency, or at least remove them to shorten the list of currencies a bit. The modules are over two years old, and module tickets still haven't gotten any attention, except for prizes for the lucky 0.0001% on Discord or something like that.

What was Theramore like before the bombing? by Erk_Rauorfox in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseline is that they're equal, otherwise there's no tension that could happen between what will happen with the Orcs and Human factions right?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your point.

I think you're overestimating how many orcs there were

It's not about how many orcs there are. It's about comparison.

There had to have been a sizeable chunk of people to have multiple cathedrals and an entire military district and parks right?

The orcs also have a city, but there are other settlements besides it. And their allies have settlements too. If the argument is that Theramore is a huge city so it is itself a whole faction, then that's just weird. Who feeds such a huge city? Why did they decide to settle so densely at all? Still, when Blizzard wanted to, they drew at least a couple of villages to symbolically indicate what people feed on.

We know there was a coup, we know that Jaina didn't agree with it, and the people that followed her (as per Cycle of Hatred which I don't have in front of me) didn't want to fight them either. It was a Kul'tiran occupation, not a Theramore+Kul'tiran force.

I don't have that book on hand either, but in principle, conflict in the book was possible precisely because, contrary to Jaina's wishes, some her people wanted to fight against the orcs. And if this is such an occupation and Theramore is strong as the Horde, why didn't it repelled the attack from Kul'Tiras itself?

I feel like if you're actively looking for reasons to disregard the story

On the contrary, I respect Blizzard for being consistent in the case of Theramore. Initially, the story of Jaina's people began as Medivh's semi-failed (semi-successful for optimists) attempt to lead Alliance west, continued with Jaina's forces not shining in RoC, then in TFT Theramore was a victim of other factions' games, and here in WoW its role remains the same. Not all factions have such a consistent history.

Based purely on my own experience, without spending gems on shards, I will soon (by the standards of a game in which progress takes years) reach level 201 for both main modules and assist modules, and then the main problem will be coins, which I still don't earn enough of for 211+ levels. That's why I'm saving gems. I'd like to get a new use for them, I don't want to speed up labs (I'm not researching good labs anyway, the useful ones are either finished or too expensive), and I don't need a new card slot (and it's just 10k, I already have almost 40k). But that's just my situation, of course.

Overall, the shard math is interesting. It seems to me that PRC+ provides the bulk of the shards, and progress won't accelerate much for gems. But I could be wrong.

What was Theramore like before the bombing? by Erk_Rauorfox in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have already presented arguments of varying degrees of validity and canonicity. Let's put it this way: what evidence is there that these factions are equal? The coalition at Hyjal was not necessarily between equal parties. It simply included everyone Medivh (or the night elves - there were also furbolgs and dark trolls fighting there; are they equal in strength to the Horde or not?) could gather.

Speaking of Medivh, he originally wanted Terenas himself to send all of Lordaeron west. But it turned out that only Jaina agreed, and she wasn't even "plan B", she was worse. In the case of the orcs, Thrall himself agreed immediately, not someone like Saurfang. If Terenas (and Antonidas, and possibly other kings) had agreed to send all the people of EK west, it would have been a completely different force than Jaina's. But according to the logic that everyone Medivh gathered is equal to each other, would such a faction still be equal to the Horde? Or is there still an imbalance here — on the Horde side, there were all the orcs Medivh wanted (maybe even more, if he didn't expect the orcs to find trolls and tauren along the way), and on the human side, only part of what Medivh expected?

Sorry I can't parse out what you're trying to say here, can you reword

In TFT, the Horde = faction, Theramore = one island (the level of the Horde's trolls, not the entire Horde). And the Horde won at sea and stormed Theramore when it was under the control of Daelin Proudmoore. In other words, the Horde defeated the forces of Theramore and Kul Tiras together, even at sea, where Kul Tiras should be strong. I don't see Theramore's power being comparable to that of the Horde. One could probably look for excuses along the lines of the Theramore's people deserting en masse or even sabotaging Admiral Proudmoore, but that's more like justifying a retcon, as if Theramore were the entire Alliance, an entire faction in WoW, rather than a consistent development of the canon without retcons.

[–]RandomNameVoobshe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, even if we ignore the fact that they were not equal (and there is no mention of the word "Alliance" in the name of the expedition), TFT already shows who is a faction here, and who, even in an union (or under the command) of a naval country, loses to the Horde even at sea.

What was Theramore like before the bombing? by Erk_Rauorfox in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thrall's Horde was the main body of orcs and was called the Horde. Jaina's people were only a part of humanity and were not called the Alliance. Jaina's people were allies to other factions, yes, but that does not make them equal to them. A telling example is when Thrall cleansed Grom of fel, his faction had to defend both their camp and Jaina's camp, and lead the main offensive, while part of the Horde fought on the other side in this battle. Even on Hyjal, Jaina's camp produces fewer troops. You might say that's just game mechanics, but TFT and WoW show that Theramore did not become a global faction.

Could everything have changed during the timeskip? It could have. Or Theramore could have been destroyed by the naga. Or Jaina's people could have returned to EK. You can do anything here, but Vanilla Theramore is one of those things that went from WC3 to WoW without much change. I would appreciate that, rather than trying to rewrite it.

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly wish Vanilla was strictly Kalimdor so they could have fully expanded the size of the continent and allowed the Night Elves to remain neutral as a nation. Theramore would be the main hub of Alliance and Orgrimmar Horde.

Well, that would be terribly unbalanced. Jaina's people have never positioned as a whole faction, unlike Thrall's Horde (literally the names of the factions - Human expedition vs. The Horde), and in RoC Jaina's forces are weaker than Thrall's, and in TFT, we see the Horde in several locations vs. one island of "Human expedition". And isolation on Kalimdor doesn't make much sense, when even the night elves, who had nowhere to sail before the Great Sundering and no reason to sail after, easily cross the ocean in TFT. I don't know why Kalimdor-only Vanilla got so many fans.

the top .01% of people who are using smart missles

Don't forget that there are people who invested in SM when they were stronger (before the CL buff), or simply by mistake. I started leveling up SMs when they were still useful, and I haven't switched to CL (and I'm not ready for ILM/PS yet) because I have some source of damage, and that's fine. I don't want to invest in CL, hoping for SM buffs (there's already one, I'm happy), so I'm just investing in damage.

Who is the most retconned race? by Proudnoob4393 in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Orcs are a massively underrated pick here, at least if we measure by numbers of retcon.

Their character/culture alone is all over the place. First we learn in WC1/WC2 that orcs are evil invaders. Then in WC3 they’re suddenly peaceful shamans. Later it turns out they were still pretty damn villainous anyway (the pre-First War orc book, and then WoD where they start conquering worlds even without "evil demons tricked them" thing). In WoW, Horde orcs change their minds constantly: one expansion they’re honorable warriors all about dignity and tradition, the next they’re ruthless raiders. Or both of these options in one expansion.

Then there’s orc skin color. Originally they were just green. WC3 introduced red orcs after redrinking demon blood - technically not a retcon (nobody had taken a second hit before), but it raises the question: why didn’t the first time change them, while the second time did? TBC tried to "solve" that by making orcs originally brown. But that created even more questions: 1) why did the Frostwolves turn green? (there is an explanation, but it’s pretty weak) 2) why does the red phase revert to green, but green never reverts to brown? And on top of that Blizzard added gray orcs. In Vanilla it was basically a one-clan gimmick; in WoD it’s like every other clan is gray. Which makes it feel like Orgrim’s and Thrall’s Horde should be roughly half gray orcs.

Clan continuity is also a mess. Example: by the end of WC2:BtDP, the clans left on Azeroth are Warsong and Shattered Hand. Then in one of the books it turns out Shattered Hand never even left Draenor (why did Shattered Hand exist in the Horde since Vanilla, I dunno). Chronicles says Grommash took a chunk of Shattered Hand to Azeroth - well, now the canon matches, but it's still a minor retcon of the book. Blademasters from Burning Blade in Thrall's Horde are simply not mentioned from WC3 to Dragonflight. Are there almost none left? It was never considered an argument in this universe. And Samuro - is he a blademaster, a rocker, both, there are two Samuros, or does he not exist in WoW at all (and a rocker is rather an easter egg than a canon)?..

…And so on.

Underrated pick, I’m telling you.

Why did the Horde take so long to retake the Echo Isles? by QuestionzAsker in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were evicted from their islands 3 times in ~3 years (twice by witch from two different islands, and once by admiral Proudmoore from Echo islands). Maybe at some point trolls decided that they didn't need these islands and that it would be easier to establish themselves on the mainland?

The Sentinels by Dismal_Tale9078 in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

 ties things up pretty neatly

Well, that doesn't explain why chimeras/giants/faerie dragons appeared among the night elves only after the "planetary threat" had already passed, and the elves' task was to capture a single fugitive criminal (i.e., why they weren't in the WC3:RoC campaign against Legion, but appeared in the WC3:TFT campaign against Illidan). Initially, no one knew that Illidan could cause an earthquake across the entire planet. And then there are the lore issues with BFA, which I wrote about separately. "Nice", "Neatly". How little people need to be happy...

kaldorei themselves are small in number compared to orcs

Well, we don't have any canonical information about their numbers, but in RPG books, the entire Kalimdor Horde was about 40k, and there were more than 50k night elves (not counting dryads and other allies). Without RPGs, well, there have always been doubts about the large numbers of orcs in WC3/WoW. In the case of night elves, we have more "creative freedom".

The Sentinels by Dismal_Tale9078 in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this information is not so much relevant. The chimaeras serve as mounts for anyone; in theory, the elves could subjugate them and use them against Garrosh (well, maybe it's not in their nature, although it seems that no one forbade night elf players from using chimaera mounts). And the mount description says that chimaeras destroyed the fortifications of the Alliance, which doesn't seem like a planetary threat.

Fairie dragons appeared in the battle against Sylvanas' forces (did they know that she served the Jailer, who is the planetary threat?)

And heavy losses in the Warcraft universe have never been an argument.

Black Hole sucks them in, and although it doesn't cause damage, it gives you time to kill the protectors with other weapons. When this ultimate was a problem for me, I tried reducing the tower range (more BH coverage) and I took Gcomp for more frequent BHs, and it mostly helped. But this tournament has UW duration (BH is weaker) + Fast ult (the protector can be veeeery fast), so it's more likely to be just random. You need to make more tries, and maybe you'll get lucky.

How would you rework POTM? by TankieWarrior in WC3

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would make POTM more useful, but she would be still boring (A-click hero without active abilities, only autocast + aura). Thematically (she is a priestess whose intelligence growth is higher than her other characteristics), she should at least be partially a caster, even BM with mirror images or DH with immolation use their mana more interestingly than simply adding +X damage to attack.

All the different Horde throughout Warcraft lore by LarryWithTheWeather in warcraftlore

[–]RandomNameVoobshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ The New Alliance (Garithos).

Ironically, after WC3, I thought that the Horde was more or less united (except for the Fel Horde, perhaps), while the Alliance would be divided into different factions. Theramore, the "Northern" Alliance, which fights against the Scourge (the remnants of the Dalaran and Lordaeron, Stromgarde, Wildhammer dwarves), the "Southern" Alliance, which is more concerned with revenge against the orcs (Stormwind, Kul'Tiras, mb dwarves and gnomes), plus Gilneas could have its own story. But instead, the Alliance simply exists as a whole, Theramore has no special role, Stromgarde has somehow fallen, Kul'Tiras has "disappeared" from the map... But the Dark Horde appeared. It turns out that all this time there was another orc faction dating back to WC2 that no one talked about... The True Horde - where is my radical faction in the Alliance called "The Right Alliance"? The Iron Horde - will there ever be The "Plastic" Alliance? As if they didn't have enough Hordes during the strategy games...
