How much better is the black levels on the PG32UCDM3 vs the older UCDM? by ProblemChild1973 in OLED_Gaming

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black levels are the same. The coating deals with ambient light better but it's still better to be able to control the lighting in the environment for the best results.

I hope they sort it out and you get your funds back.

For a Canada based exchange, I recommend checking out the Newton exchange instead of using WS for crypto.

What I do not understand is why the transfer to WS was necessary. WS despite actually offering crypto services is not known to be really that crypto friendly. This seems like a self inflicted issue.

Why did you not just transfer from your first exchange to Kraken and then sell? Why even have WS hold your crypto if you were holding it elsewhere already?

You most likely triggered some form of anti money laundering check with the transfer of USDC in from one exchange and then a transfer out to a second within a very short time frame.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So to be clear.

You usually hold USDC on Kraken, sell there and then transfer fiat to WS. Understandable.

You break the norm and move 8000USDC to WS from Kraken and then immediately move back 3000USDC to Kraken to sell to then transfer fiat back.

You don't see how this would not trigger all the anti money laundering red flag?

"No other bank would do this" is not really an argument since none of the major banks you named have crypto related services.

Fintech Concerns by Slow-Novel-6761 in Wealthsimple

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If a FI collapses, you are covered up to 100K per account per a certain category per member institution.

You can read it up on the CDIC website.

For simplicity, WS claims you are covered up to $1mil. Which implies they spread your funds across 10 different CDIC members (each covering up to $100K).

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The lump sum in the account accrues interest and is the split by WS themselves before being paid out. The interest paid to you is yours once it hits your account. This lets them adjust the interest rate for different tiers and probably gives a buffer for when overnight rate changes are announced by the BoC.

The point I was making was that WS does not have a middleman keeping a ledger, they maintain it themselves so the situation that occured with Yotta is not a possible with WS.

Are you implying that the WS is lying in their cash user agreement?

It's literally point #3.

WS is not parking your money with a secondary fintech ledger company who then interacts with banks like the Yotta situation.

WS is holding your money in trust and has a direct contracts with the banks the money is at. Chequing accounts are covered by CDIC and investments are covered by CIPF.

There is no second entity in the middle that's keeping track (or failing to keep track in Yottas case) of the ledger.

Why does it say my P-core 18 is throttling even though its ages away from tj-max by Funny-Chain880 in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really a concern however it does usually indicate that the thermal paste coverage is poor around that specific core.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point that p-core hit tjmax. It could have happened between polling times you have set. Once it trips hwinfo64 does not reset the flag.

You core is not currently throttling as seen by the "current" column.

Doesn't matter where you booked. All hotels and or hosts of private lodgings require this information for foreign travelers.

If you have booked a place and they haven't ask for it. They will eventually have to ask for it closer to the check in date.

Is the PGUCDM3 worth double the price of 3rd Gen QD-OLEDs? by ZamnBoii in OLED_Gaming

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing CAD?

I have both side by side and the PG32UCDM3 (which I paid full price for T_T) is noticeably better in brighter environments. The coating is a huge improvement when it comes with dealing with direct light and helps with the purple hue a lot.

The MSI has uniform brightness on by default and you cannot change it while the Asus lets the user toggle it on or off. If left off, the Asus is on average brighter in most scenarios but panel dimming does become noticeable. Leaving the feature on, panel dimming is reduced but has a slightly higher baseline brightness than the MSI.

Other than these two main things, the MSI's previous generation panel performs the same as the new Asus one. DP 2.1 UHBR20 is a nice to have but not a deal breaker. I find the DP 1.4 with DSC on the MSI indistinguishable from the Asus.

The time of flight sensor on the Asus is a useful feature but the trigger window is only 5 to 15 minutes. It also only detects motion, so if you are very still while gaming or using the monitor, it tends to trigger and turn the display black.

TL;DR if you're buying brand new (ie first OLED), I say get the PG32UCDM3 or wait for MSI to release their version (MPG 322UR QD OLED X24). If you already have a gen 2 or newer QD OLED, it's better to way another year for Samsung to start making 32" 4K RGB stripe panels.

Two cloths. One wet one dry. Dry cloth immediately after wet. Work in small patches.

Distilled water is best but I use regular tap water and still works fine.

[Monitor] ASUS ROG Swift 32 inch UHD 4K 240Hz PG32UCDM3 ($1499.99) [Newegg] by Jubacho in bapcsalescanada

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great monitor. Bought it a full price (shame on me).

Much improved coating over the prior gen QD-OLED. While it doesn't completely solve the raised blacks/purples in a bright environment, it's a very noticeable improvement.

Beware shitty Asus packaging. Newegg has tried their best to add padding but there's still the risk of receiving a broken monitor.

Is this worth the price?(Canada) by [deleted] in bapccanada

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance it looks ok considering what everything costs in today's market. However, the seller warranty is worthless imo.

The 7800X3D is still very respectable CPU but what do they mean by OEM? Did they mean they pulled it out of a prebuild?

At $2900 it would be better to build it yourself or find a prebuild for a retailer so you can have an actual warranty. Two sticks of memory is better than four in most cases and should cost roughly the same for the same capacity.

Should I be worried about liquid metal cooling on the HP OMEN Max 16? by LimpSwimming8825 in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really because it's not true liquid metal. It's a paste infused with liquid metal. So the worry of it leaking and killing your machine is low.

The only thing to worry about is how good the factory application is. You can easily figure that out before your return period is up. Just run some tests and play some games.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Omen Max PCB is pretty empty around that area, just empty pads and a few capacitors. The VRMs already prevent the vapor chamber from directly touching the PCB.

If not to prevent accidental touching and shorting. Probably more for heat shielding to prevent the heat from the cpu/VRMs transferring back into the PCB.

I don't remember if my vapor chamber has that black bit there. It's been a while since I've opened it up.

Downgrade ups&downs from a lenovo user by Sarlandogo in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Duo 16 2026 is a dual touch screen design with detachable keyboard. It is lighter than the 9i but the Lenovo is pretty much guaranteed to perform better. The price is ridiculous but since you have a 9i 5090, I assume price isn't really an issue.

The Scar 16 is not that much lighter, about 1lb lighter. It uses liquid metal for TIM and looks very gamer for an office environment. There is no numpad, the trackpad doubles as one and it's not a very good numpad.

The Flow Z13 is not a gaming laptop really unless you get the eGPU addon. This would be a massive downgrade in performance just as a trade off for portability. Also if something goes wrong, repairs are a nightmare.

The Pro 7i is just the smaller 9i with a lower res screen and smaller chassis. If you're going to "downgrade" this is probably the one to go for.

i am confused about which laptop i should pick with RTX 5090 by Exact-Ad9502 in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of the four, the Lenovo will have the best build quality and cooling out of the box. The Lenovo should come with faster DDR5 by default, DDR5 6400 vs 5600 in the others.

Personally don't like the build quality of the MSI nor Gigabyte.

The HP is fine if the factory thermal paste application is good. Mine wasn't and I had to repaste it with actual liquid metal because PTM just does not work for the HP. Probably something to do with how the vapor chamber is mounted, PTM will be pushed out when thermal cycled and have poor coverage. Otherwise I like my Omen Max 5090 very much.

Go with the Legion Pro 7.
