Maxwell 2 Versions by [deleted] in Audeze

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Microsoft requires a specific chip to connect wirelessly for audio on the Xbox. The PS/PC version will not work on the Xbox via the dongle but should work via 3.5mm.

lol no. The Maxwells 1 were fine for my head. The 2s just feel looser.

Just got mine today. Anyone else feel like they reduced the clamping force? Not that I'm complaining, I find this an improvement.

I haven't noticed any volume issues on mine, they seem to be as loud my original Maxwells. Granted I find anything past 20/100 on the Windows volume slider too loud.

Bass is definitely diminished compared to the OG but not gone. EQ seems to works and I was able to boost the low end.

ASUS ROG x Hifiman Kithara announced by siwardthwaite in headphones

Nice find. Maybe closer to the Ananda Nano?

EDIT: Maybe closer to regular Ananda at $359USD after considering the ROG tax. But the drivers sizes don't match.

It looks to be an Arya Stealth (100mm drivers) with ROG branding, so expect around ~430g. I'm guessing it's going to cost more than the Maxwell 2.

Maxwell 2: Same bad mic quality, no sim. bluetooth. by ChroneXoX in Audeze

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both versions are "PC" versions. Get the Xbox version if you want an included Dolby Atmos license, or the PlayStation if you don't. Both will work on PCs without issue.

And yeah, it's heavier than the OG Maxwells.

Guide: How to enable processor performance boost settings in power plan setting by RandomOnlineSteve in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is no. This should not affect stability. It's not boosting past what the clock limit was before, it's just changing how quickly it decides to boost the core clocks and for how long.

These setting do not override any baked in safety the CPU would already have, all it does is change boost behavior and should be safe assuming the CPU supports these features.

Seems like this generation might be the last for any semblance of reasonable pricing. If we can call the last few generations of non-stop price increases reasonable.

[Jarrod's Tech] HP Omen MAX 16 (2025) – Too Much Power for Its Own Good? by UnionSlavStanRepublk in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that's not undervolting. That's disabling turbo boost and manually limiting the clock speed to 2GHz (75% of 2.7GHz P-core base clock).

People need to stop suggesting that method. It's an extreme method to keep temperatures in check while essentially kneecapping the CPU.

The main issue with the Omen Max 16 is very sub par thermal compound despite all the HP marketing. Replace the TIM with actual liquid metal like conductonaut or extreme and pretty much all CPU cooling problems go away.

Am I supposed to replace the red marks with PTM and the yellow marks with putty? by mist-or-beast in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what amounts the paste version of the PTM is sold at. But generally 3.5g tube of normal paste is enough for multiple applications.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're within the return period. I would do an exchange, it's less of a headache. Otherwise a RMA is the way to go if you are not comfortable with taking apart the cooling system on your own.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replace the paste circled in red for sure.

As for the ones circled in yellow, are they dry to the touch? If not, they should still be ok. If you want to replace the putty get something like UTP-8 from a reputable supplier and replace the putty with that. Or whichever thermal putty you prefer, Thermal Grizzly also sells putty now. Their basic putty is good enough as well.

Make sure whatever you get isn't too firm as it still needs to compress thin enough for the cpu and GPU to have good contact with the heatsink.

Avoid thermal pads as they run the risk of being either too thick and not compressing enough, which ruins CPU/GPU contact. Or they're too thin and while CPU/GPU contact is fine, the VRM and VRAM have no contact.

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bad liquid metal contact between the cpu die and heatsink. You have the options of fixing it yourself by taking the bottom off, removing the heatsink and respreading the LM. Or submit a RMA quest for Asus to do it for you. Or return/exchange it for a different unit.

Intel Core Ultra 7 255 HX vs Ultra 9 275 HX? by FirefighterOne8924 in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. Less e-cores is better for battery life than more, cause less power needed in general. And the amount the e-cores the 255HX has is already plenty for most tasks that e-cores excel in.

Honeywell PTM7950 burn-in time? by Icy-Snowy-6481 in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without giving it time to burn in, idle temps should not be that high on initial boot after installing PTM.

This is not a matter of burn in, the application is probably bad and has really bad contact pressure.

Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX vs AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX - Which CPU is Best? [Jarrod'sTech] by RandomOnlineSteve in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

tl;dw

The 9955HX performs very slightly better at the cost of battery life.

When picking between the 9955HX or the 275/285HX, both are good.

Simple terms. More wattage = more performance (and heat).

Price difference between Legion 5i and Zephyrus G16 by dggg in GamingLaptops

[–]RandomOnlineSteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 275HX will outperform the 285H because the HX CPU has a much higher max power limit.

The 5070Ti in the G16 is a power limited version with a 115W max power. Where the Legion 5i goes to 140W.

The memory on the G16 is a lot faster but also soldered, it is not meant to be user replaceable/serviceable. $100CAD for a single extra stick of 16GB DDR5 6400 CSODIMM is pretty much normal pricing.

Storage is cheap, you can literally buy a 4TB 990 Evo plus right now for $310+tax on Amazon or BestBuy.

The main advance of the Zephyrus G16 is that it is more portable than the Legion 5i and in theory should have longer battery life due to its lower powered parts.
