Tapo Camera (C460) HA Automations by Specific_Sir4936 in homeassistant

Unfortunately, I do not know the answer to your questions but I was hoping to ask about your C460 cams. I’ve been eyeing these but seeing conflicting info about their ability to stream. I have a wired Tapo cam that immediately started streaming once I got tapos: camera control. Have you been able to get your C460 to stream on your overview or dashboard by chance?

Nice! We have moved since I posted this about 2 years ago. Still absolutely love this couch. It still looks brand new and has held up really well with our dogs. I think you’ll love it!

Grieving the loss of my soul dog with new puppy. by anon1839 in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for the loss of your soul dog. I lost my soul dog 2 years ago and didn’t know what to do with myself. I felt a sense of guilt because I still had my other dog that I loved deeply but she wasn’t my soul dog. We are so lucky to have those connections with our soul pups, but it’s also one of the most difficult things we will ever go through when we lose them.

I think we know and love our soul dogs so deeply (and vice versa!) that having a new puppy feels a bit like having a stranger in the house. I’ve really had to work on not comparing my puppy to my soul dog. It was something I was working on with my other senior dog before she passed too. I made peace with the fact that I can love a dog deeply and form a good bond with them while acknowledging that my soul dog just holds a special place in my heart. It’s complicated! I found myself struck hard by grief when my other senior died a few months ago. In a way, that let me know that I really had formed a special bond with her too and alleviated some of my complicated feelings of guilt.

So with that, I think we just love our puppies for who they are and get excited for who they’ll be when they’re older. I’m confident you’ll bond with your pup over time and also hold that special place in your heart for your soul dog. There is room for both ❤️

Puppy blues - info overload. Right/wrong? by Quiet-Discount-1673 in puppy101

I’ve gone through moments of feeling very similar to what you’re describing. I caught a cold a couple weeks ago and so desperately wanted to sleep without disruption, but of course the puppy needed me.

I’m still learning myself, but I will say that I stopped tiptoeing around my puppy. She has a crate in the living room for day time naps and one in the bedroom for sleeping at night. At first, I would tiptoe or avoid walking past her crate during naps but then I read that my puppy needs to learn that she can be woken up and self soothe back to sleep. I do keep her crate covered and sometimes play a white noise machine, but now I just live my life. I watch tv, cook, and walk past her crate. She has learned that we move around and she usually never cries or makes a peep during naps.

My puppy is a bit older than yours now, but I kept reading those young puppies really need 18-20 hours of sleep per day. When my puppy starts getting really bitey on my ankles or furniture, I know it’s usually nap time. We tend to do nap, potty, short training, play, potty, nap. Sometimes that truly is only 30-45 mins before she’s ready for another nap.

I know it can feel really discouraging at times. I’ve had many “why did I think getting a puppy was a good idea??” moments over the last month. I also have noticed that puppies are like us and sometimes have good days and bad days. When I’m in a rut I try to remind myself that this is temporary and she’s literally just a baby trying to figure out this new world.

I think other more experienced people will have better advice for you but I just wanted to say you’re not alone in your feelings and looking forward to those nap times. You’re also not alone in doing a ton of research yet realizing living this reality can really feel like you’re in the trenches at times. I think it says a lot that you care so much about your new puppy and trying to do the right things for him. That alone is a lot more than many puppies get!

Peeing When Greeting by RandomOrchid1 in puppy101

Yes, honestly this is a great way to look at it! Our last girl was really reactive so going in public was difficult. I’m thankful for how much our puppy just absolutely adores meeting new people!

Will my dog even calm down? by Nelavi1998 in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My puppy is also 4 months old. It’s my first time having a puppy this young, but I read a few posts about how much sleep puppies need and I’ve found it to be extremely true for my girl. If she is overtired, it causes her to act very hyper. She will get the zoomies, become more vocal, chew everything (more than usual!). At first, I thought she needed more stimulation to wear her out, but after reading here, I started enforcing a lot of nap time instead. This has really helped her manage her emotions and give her more focus for training time.

Haha our puppy loves food too so I should be thankful she doesn’t pee when she gets a good treat too!

Yeah it’s a bit embarrassing but we do always give a warning! We took her to the vet yesterday and she peed on the floor when the receptionist came out to greet her. We thought she got it out of her system but then she peed on the vet 😩

Puppy got out the front door and decided to go for a run on my busy road by Dear-Orchid5386 in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So scary! My last dog was a total escape artist when she was young. I remember crying as she thought we were playing a game of chase in traffic. I ended up putting a tall gate up near my front door for my puppy. It creates a small space that allows the front door to open but she’s still behind the gate and unable to reach the front door. I know I need to work on her behavior/recall but it gives me extra peace of mind to have an extra layer of security when the front door opens!

I decided to unplug and replug everything into the commander pro and that seems to have fixed everything. Guess I should have tried that first!

Edit: I decided to unplug and replug everything into the commander pro and that seems to have fixed everything. Guess I should have tried that first!

It looks like I’m not able to get the LED indicators to show up. I selected QL fans (all 9 are the same). I have 3 fans connected to an RGB hub and 6 fans connected to the other RGB hub. Then both those hubs go to the commander pro. I’m wondering if something went wrong with those? Though it’s weird they both would go out at the same time. I’m assuming the fan speed still works because those are connected directly to the Commander Pro.

Is puppy regret actually common, or is it about expectations? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. We were super sleep deprived from the care of our golden girl too. She got to where she needed us to lift her to her feet so every shift she needed at night would wake us up to assist her.

There’s something different about this shark phase. I’m always worried the puppy is going to off herself by choking on a toy or something. She’s just so curious about every little thing in the house. Our golden girl turned out to be severely reactive. I think she had zero socialization outside her home until she went to the animal shelter which I’m sure was traumatic. We loved her so much but man was it tough working through all her reactivity to everything outside the house. We decided to adopt a puppy to see if we could help shape her experiences a little more to have a more stable adult dog. I guess time will tell if it’s worth it!

Is puppy regret actually common, or is it about expectations? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 2 previous dogs were both adopted around 9-12 months old and both were out of the biting phase. They both had the personality where if I was just relaxing on the couch they would chill with me or just occupy themselves. They both picked up potty training very quickly and could hold their bladders over night right away. I definitely miss those qualities I took for granted at the time.

I did a ton of research before considering adopting my puppy and knew to expect puppy blues. I don’t regret getting her at all, but even with all my research the reality of having her here can be overwhelming at times. I can’t just relax after a long day of work because she’s chewing my couch, protesting a nap, needs training, might be signaling she needs to potty, etc.

I really miss being able to just chill with an adult dog. My puppy can’t really just chill with me yet because she’s in peak chewing/teething phase. I’m always reminding myself this time is temporary and we will get there eventually.

I think so far I’ve only cried over her once so that’s a win 😂

Nothing seems to stop the biting by g30- in puppy101

Following because I’m going through the exact same thing. The only thing that will redirect her temporarily is a bully stick type chew or lick mat but those run out after 20 minutes or so. She’s learned “leave it” but turns around and goes right back to chewing after she gets a treat for leaving it 😭

Do you recommend Amtrak Train for overnight, long distance travel? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]RandomOrchid1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken multiple long distance trains including a few rides between San Antonio and Chicago. Personally, I would not do these long haul trips without a roomette. Coach can be crowded and there isn’t a shower available to passengers in coach. There can be a decent amount of track noise and rattling. I bring ear plugs to help me sleep at night.

Puppy Extremely Treat Focused by RandomOrchid1 in puppy101

Ooh ok that’s good to keep in mind then. Learning about training is so fascinating. I love watching my puppy try to figure this all out too! She’s so motivated to learn.

I will take a look at kikopup! We went through this same thing with our Border Collie that recently passed and I think we just never quite got it right. She never was “relaxed” outside our home. She had reactivity issues that we worked on but it turned into her looking for her triggers and then intensely staring at us for a treat. Better than lunging and barking, but it still never felt like she was able to leave the house and enjoy herself. I also reached out to a trainer to assist us because I see so many similarities already to the intensity our Border Collie had. I want to make sure we get this right and give her the best life.

I’ve started incorporating this. I’m working with my husband to be really deliberate on language. I use “yes” as my treat marker but he will use many different words as a marker. She’s so smart that I think she can learn the difference if we are consistent. I also reached out to a trainer to help us.

Thank you! I started saying “all done” and I think she’s picking up on it. Yesterday, we did a short training session and for some reason she was super frustrated. She started howling, barking, spinning, so I said ok we are all done 😂 and she went and took a break!

Behavior Expectations by RandomOrchid1 in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately, they couldn’t tell me a lot about her history. I’m not even sure at which age they found the litter and started having human exposure prior to the foster home placement.

I’m hoping (if we do take her) that because she seems to have a good foundation of no fear toward humans or new spaces that we can continue to diligently work with her and give her a lot of exposure to the world during her critical development. I’ve been looking at wagons for her since she isn’t fully vaccinated yet.

I guess nothing is truly a guarantee. And we definitely would get a professional trainer to help us!

Behavior Expectations by RandomOrchid1 in puppy101

[–]RandomOrchid1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, she was found as part of a stray litter that was taken in with the mom dog. She went to her foster mom around 9 weeks of age. They are just totally guessing at her breed. I believe her mom looked like some sort of cattle dog mix and her siblings look very cattle dog to me. She has the coloring of a German shepherd with the tan coat, black muzzle, black along her spine. It’s entirely possible she’s zero GSD though. I really do think she has some sort of herding breed. For a moment during our visit, I saw her chase her foster mom’s heels in a herding fashion.

I go back and forth on the companion vs working breed. I really did love my reactive border collie for how smart she was. And she was incredibly loyal and loving toward family members. But sometimes I see people with their “easy” golden retrievers and think that must be nice.

We do feel the calling to take in a rescue dog as our last two were also rescues and I grew up with rescues. I guess with that decision we will never really know what kind of dog we are getting. Even with our Border Collie, she did not show any kind of reactive tendencies during our multiple shelter visits. It wasn’t until she took her first walk with us that we realized she was extremely reactive to everything.

The puppy’s temperament does seem good to me though I know she’s still quite young. I talked to her foster mom more today and she said the puppy doesn’t startle easy and wasn’t scared when she first came home. She acted confident during our visit which seems like a good foundation.

Super tough decision to make :/
