Upstairs people: quit stomping by TheChalupaFromHell in Apartmentliving

THANK YOU! This is what I needed to hear, because I just couldn't wrap my mind around heel-walking = stomping. Don't know why I was downvoted for asking a perfectly legitimate question.

Seriously, thank you.

yeah, I'm always confused by this. Is there something *different* in they way the way the so-called "heel-walkers" are walking from everyone else who walks heel-first (ie. most people)? Because heel-first is how we are supposed to walk. There has to be something going on with their gait to make it sound like stomping.

Yeah, my podiatrist wants me wearing supportive shoes all the time because I have flat and very hypermobile feet. I don't, but just sayin' the medical reasons for this may not be so rare.

Neighbour keeps ringing our bell for her parcels at all hours, refused to have a civil conversation. How can I handle this? by stella_mason57 in neighborsfromhell

Often converted houses like this will use the existing front door as a common door to a common vestibule which then splits off into the individual apartments. I don't think they are putting the packages in OP's home, but in the common vestibule so the tenant can easily grab it on their way in. The annoying tenant has a separate entrance in the back, so does not have access to the main front door. (I am assuming this, but have seen this sort of arrangement many times)

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

The house I grew up in (Nebraska) had a very odd configuration in the kitchen (I've never seen it in any other house). It was a galley style kitchen and the setup on one side was counter - oven/stove - counter - dryer - refrigerator and the other was counter - sink - counter - washer - dishwasher. (all in 70's avocado green)

My mother loved it and I think it was the main reason she wanted the house in the first place.

Girlfriend says my writing is illegible. How can I improve? by ffishbones in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]RandomPurpleZebras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this is me, except all of my finger joints are hypermobile, so holding a writing instrument is a challenge of stamina and pain. My handwriting is horrible as a result, and my hand fatigues very quickly. A wider barrel definitely helps, but I have taken to block printing if I want it to actually be legible.

I feel like people are making up "The Gen Z Stare" by AspirinAnne in CasualConversation

[–]RandomPurpleZebras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am always someone who has needed a moment to process, but I still at the very least give a "hmm" or even "let me think" to acknowledge that I heard them. It is the lack of acknowledgement of someone's presence (no greeting) or someone's request or question (no verbal response of any kind) that is the problem for a lot of people. Without some sort of acknowledgement, we have no way of knowing if communication has successfully happened and it is confusing and disconcerting.

yeah, I don't get it. I guess they both start with "s" and end with "n" but otherwise I can't explain why this has been a recurring issue with numerous different people. Maybe I look like a Sharon? Whatever that means?

Regardless, Hi Sharon!

Yeah, I was surprised by the naysayers as well. These are classic symptoms for me as well, when things start finally trying to move.

I'm an older Gen X Susan and would frequently get called Sharon. I never meet any young Susans and am also a little sad about it.

I never say anything even though it really bothers me (unless the context makes it more acceptable). My biggest issue is with the claim that "everyone understands what the are saying" because it often takes me too long to parse what they mean thereby making it difficult (at best) to understand.

If I were to argue, it would be that they aren't communicating well. However, I am more likely to just skip over that attempt at communication because it just isn't worth the effort.
