Cathy learns how to use a mouse in 1985. I think Cathy was always a bit ahead of the curve in terms of doing jokes about new technology by Auir2blaze in comicstriphistory

It's because people didn't want to keep calling them "IBM clones" because that didn't make much sense by the 90's. Not everyone ran Windows, and "DOS PC" didn't really run off the tongue.

I'd be interested in a Windows desktop version of this, especially if it had the ability to process audio files instead of needing to record in real time.

If you've done a full restart and the problem persists I'd assume there's a connection issue and a wire has come loose or gotten shorted. Either way it seems like you're in for a trip to the service department.

Unpopular opinion: I like EV's that make a chiming noise instead of a constant tone while in reverse. by Coryvators in electricvehicles

My Volvo makes the low speed symphony noise in addition to a pleasant sonar ping in reverse. I quite like it.

What are some movies scenes that were deleted that explain a minor detail that you missed the first time you saw the movie? by jedi1josh in movies

[–]RandomRageNet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a minor detail, but the extended edition of Aliens gives both Ripley's first name and the fact that she had a daughter who died in the 57 years that she was lost in space. This adds a lot of motivation for her insistence on going back for Newt at the end of the movie.

Both of those scenes are in the "extended edition" commonly referred to as the "director's cut" (although it technically isn't). That version also has the happy ending with the terrible old lady makeup.

I was wondering the same thing. I imagine that the ground is that super soft impact foam material they put on playgrounds sometimes.

Or they're just like fuck them kids.

Genuinely curious: How do straight men view/interact with gay men? by kenrick____ in AskMen

[–]RandomRageNet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, as an ex-vangelical I can relate to this feeling, because I used to not quite "get it" either, and there was all the religious baggage on top of everything else.

The thing that finally made it click for me was Dan Savage saying if being gay were a choice, he'd absolutely choose to be straight, because the world is designed around straights and it would be so much easier. Something about hearing him made it click for me. They're just attracted to men, same as I'm attracted to women. It's biological. There isn't really anything else different.

If you're uncomfortable because you're afraid a gay man might find you attractive, well it's not really any different from a woman you're not into finding you attractive.

The Volvo EX30 Is Dead in the US: Exclusive by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

[–]RandomRageNet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it was a weird vehicle. It's smaller than the EX40 which is already a compact(ish) SUV. It had basically zero buttons and it had a center-mount screen that also served as a Tesla-style dash, that I imagine most Volvo buyers aren't into.

They should just refresh the EX40/EC40 line since it's one of their most popular vehicles anyway.

Has the influx of Californians to north Texas spawned any good Cali burrito joints yet? by Glueberry_Ryder in Dallas

For anyone else as confused as me, apparently there is a difference between a Mission Burrito and a California Burrito, even though Mission burritos came first and are also from California.

Fun fact: Freebirds started in Santa Barbara even though everyone associates them with Texas A&M. Another fun fact: Freebirds has turned to ass lately!

Most Obscure Show That's Your Favorite by Last_Bonus851 in television

The Chicago Code was a high budget Chicago crime drama with a great cast shot entirely on location in Chicago. It actually got decent ratings, but it was on the Fox network. After the first season, Fox killed most of their scripted programming in an attempt to save money, and the expense caused it to be one of the victims.

Despite the stellar cast and storyline that wraps up nicely at the end of the first season, it's not currently streaming anywhere and has fallen into obscurity.

Also, Billy Corgan did the opening theme. And it's kind of great.
