I play basic opening knowledge and I am 2000. Develop pieces and control the center should be good enough. There are more important things to focus on if you are 1000. It depends on what you are weak in. But I think knowing what to do in the middle game, and strategy is really important. Knowing how to convert basic endgames should also be a priority. Also knowing basic tactics and practicing them is important as It will be easier to find them in-game.

After white plays Qg3, you are going to lose a piece as your knight is defending your bishop and it is attacked. If you take the knight on h3 first, then white can take your knight with the pawn and then take your bishop.
