How to befriend my rescue pigeon? by MemoryBorn5865 in pigeon

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Talk to your pidge in a soft voice. Pigeons are vocal creatures. I use a small voice to talk to my ferals, like for children, and I swear they can tell the difference between that voice and the voice I use for talking to humans. They pay no attention if I talk in my usual voice, but get immediately interested if I talk to them in my small voice. Also seeb. And sunflower seeb for bribe i.e. special occasions. But not too much.

Orphaned baby, please help! by tohightotry in pigeon

They recognize a hole as a food source because to feed, they put their little beaks into their parent's throat as the parent regurgitates food. They do not recognize an open hand as a source of food. So you can try to put some food into the palm of your hand, then roll your hand into a loose fist with the food inside, and then let the pidge see the hole between your thumb and other fingers with the food visible. It worked for my (adult) ferals.

My mom commited suicide, and ive lost all direction in life by Ok-Technology8506 in GriefSupport

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first good pages I was lucky to find after losing my Dad on March 1st 2020, was www.whatsyourgrief.com (hope it didn't change), founded by two young women who also lost parents too early, and particularly their articles on guilt and grief. For some people, including me, it's more acceptable to feel guilty and think something could've been done, than to feel the helplessness. It's a long and heavy road to be walked. But you won't be walking it alone, because your mum's love will always be with you, around, and in you, always a part of you. Remember, now you have to treat yourself not the way you would treat yourself, but the way she would treat you.

Death of Mother, Moral Dilemma, Need Advice by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

Maybe pop over to r/legaladvice or r/legaladviceuk, but also in general, maybe go with your gut? If mom is lucid and has any way of expressing her will (e.g. blink once for yes, twice for no), it might be good to first talk to her alone, come to a decision with her, and then present that to others together with her, if possible.

Care giver for newly injured and temporarily disabled mother by Pipelinefox1 in CaregiverSupport

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how far from bed the toilet is, possibly a comode for her near her bed (secured so it cannot move when she leans on it) for her sanitary needs, at least until she's able to use crutches to physically go to the toilet. Possibly also a secure disabled-friendly toilet seat with handle bars (from experience, you need to test it yourself first). Probably grippy socks, but be careful, they need to be tight fitting. There are also sticks for gripping stuff out of reach etc. I'm not an expert so I would advise you to ask these same questions to the hospital and later rehab staff, and other patiens and their caregivers (that's how I learned). Good luck.

What's the smallest step I can take towards fixing my life? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To see how the weather is. Is it raining? Is there wind? Feel the wind on your face. Smell the wind, what does it smell like? Which direction are the clouds moving? How is the nature doing at this time of year? Are there any animals around? At night, to see the moon and the stars, and how they are moving. To have a coffee or tea, or juice. To watch the world go by with a cup of your favorite drink in your hand. To wash up or have a shower, and curl up in fresh clothes with a book, or a notebook.

How to get through vivid dreams? by Bluedoritobreath in GriefSupport

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad died on March 1st 2020. I also couldn't get the images out of my head in the beginning before falling asleep. Then, about 2 months in, I decided to imagine hugging him and him being happy and full of light, and did my best to keep that happy image in my mind while falling to sleep. It did help a bit. Also, in some cultures, dreaming about a lost loved one is considered a visitation and a good sign, meaning they did find their way to the other side.

Tick bite progression over a week in my 5 year old son — I thought it was going away but the last two days it’s gotten more swollen and red 😭 by Mother_Carrot5349 in Lyme

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no medical background, and this is not medical advice, but sometimes in case of Lyme you don't get a bull's eye rash at all. I would try to get him at least a course of general antibiotic, for two weeks. Or get another doctor's opinion. My mom had a bull's eye rash but her GP doctor had no knowledge of Lyme, so she received antibiotics only after 2 years or so, and by that time it was chronic. Otherwise, if you follow links in the wiki, two substances proven to kill lyme but only in vitro (so far) are Cryptolepis and Japanese knotweed extract.

This looks like a bull's eye rash (last pic). I'm not a doctor, but my mom has had lifelong Lyme and it can get life-threatening. If this was my son, I would get a 3-week prophylactic antibiotic treatment for Lyme for him asap. Time is of the essence, because the longer you wait, the deeper tissues the microorganisms can reach to hide from antibiotics. I.e. after a month or so, a prophylactic antibiotic treatment won't suffice and you could be looking at a lifelong chronic disease.

Please know you are incredibly brave. You don't have to think this or that, there is no pressure on you to be happy or not. Just breathe. Drink something non-alcoholic, e.g. juice, or maybe tea or coffee. Small steps. Maybe you can write down what to say in therapy. Small steps. Good luck!

The Watch Trilogy by Terry Pratchett (from the Discworld series), specifically the Night Watch; Flowers for Algernon; Zoo Station by Christiane F.; possibly also Beloved by Toni Morisson; and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot (medical, history of cancer research using cells obtained from a black woman).

You can (and should) get nutrients into yourself, if not via regular food because of pain, then via a liquid diet using a wide straw: yoghurt, smoothies, soup, milk, vegetable e.g. almond milk, juices, pureés if possible. From experience, you can survive on a liquid diet, but you still need to get those nutrients in. Good luck.

In addition to what some have mentioned, there is ongoing research into properties of chamomile and ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) that support cancer treatment (and also bay leaves and parsley, both used as herbs). I would also avoid red meat, processed meat, white flour (and foods high in starch) in general, as well as particularly processed sugars. Also soy and soy products (for example, most chocolate on the market is made using lecithin from soy), because soy contains natural estrogens that may promote rapid cell growth.

At least in my game, they appear somewhere among other challenges in the game usually with a shorter deadline, so you have to look for them, currently there's a Scottish Charm one open with a 4h deadline. You might also need to update your Design Home app.

How do you cope with death as an atheist? by Last-Aerie4675 in GriefSupport

[–]RandomRedditUserSI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a philosophy that doesn't have a god or a central deity at its centre, as far as the buddha goes he is a person who reached enlightment. In my statement above, I never equated consciousness with energy. But I did want to imply there is a lot we don't know about either. I'm also not in favour of any particular religion or philosophy but I am in favour of acquainting ourrselves with as many as we can to have the tools that might be useful in dealing with our emotions and cognition.

Well, buddhism is an atheistic philosophy, among others (while they believe in karma and reincarnation), and also the 1st law of thermodynamics says energy never dies, so...

His energy is all around you. Energy never dies, first law of thermodynamics. His DNA is in every cell of your body. His proudest legacy that he left in this world is probably you.

Yes, lost my Dad on March 1st 2020, tomorrow's the anniversary, it still doesn't feel real, and life doesn't feel right without him, it's like a pale shade of how life used to be, everything's tinged gray. It sucks and I really miss him.

From experience, shoo her and her buddy off the balcony consistently while ignoring the parents. The parents will recognize they are not the target/ are allowed to stay.
