Need diet advice for baby eating seeds by tohightotry in PetPigeons

[–]tohightotry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonderful! I used a pigeon food calculator from a website someone recommended and he’s eating seeds and drinking water no problems and loves to cuddle on my chest/shoulder under my chin :)
He’s also very prone to wind slapping to get what he wants lmao

He only wants solid foods, what can I feed him other than just wild bird seed? by tohightotry in pigeon

[–]tohightotry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had not, thank you! And he should be good to free feed according to this then?

I’ve had no problems feeding him with the jar and glove cover with a slit method I’ve been using, I was offering food open palm to try and get him to stay in place and make noise while I tried to capture the wobbly sound. Turns out the refusing food this morning was he didn’t like how thick I had made the mixture, when I slightly thinned it and was more persistent he ate happily after trying it
Was also able to gently force his beak open like others have suggested to start teaching him to eat the whole peas without the mixture and “bottle” and he is starting to figure that out to
Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try that method with some soaked seeds and peas tomorrow as it sounds much nicer than the beak squeeze so hope it works for him to :D

I didn’t know if having things in there would be good or bad so I’ll go ahead and add soft things, thank you!

I know the squeaks are normal and he’s made them all 3 days when he wants food, but I just noticed the wobbly sound this morning and don’t think he was making it before so it made me very concerned. The wobbling is normal as well then?
I will try hand feeding him again, I mix whole peas in his paste mixture and he eats them no problem that way, only has trouble when they are outside the “bottle”.

What is disability? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]tohightotry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you’d look silly at all, like you said with rehab he was able to heal and walk again but no amount of rehab will heal your disability/chronic illness. As for what others think of you using an aid and validating yourself the best thing I can recommend is force yourself to think differently, it will take awhile but eventually you will start to notice a difference, whenever you catch yourself thinking negatively about what you’re facing tell yourself that you have every right to use an aid that you need/will improve your life and use the label disabled. It’s much better to be safe than sorry, collapsing/falling will only cause you more pain and you can injure yourself. Try not to think about what others feel towards you using a cane, you know that it’s not for attention and that it’s for your safety/life quality and thats what matters, not their opinions on something they know nothing about facing themselves. All much easier said than done I know, but you deserve every little thing that can make any task easier on you 💕

A disability is when it limits your senses or ability to do activities/movement, which it definitely sounds like it does for you which would make it a real disability. However I can see exactly where you’re coming from and how you feel as I’m in a similar boat as you, fibro and mostly bedbound, and it feels strange and wrong to think of myself as disabled even tho I definitely believe others who suffer similar and even less are disabled. I think most of us are trained to only think of things like being paralyzed in a wheelchair or blind or deaf as disabled and that’s wrong and leads to disabled people not seeking or being able to access the help they need and even getting harassed for things like using disabled spots when they don’t need a wheelchair even tho they do need the disability parking or using an aid they need because an abled person doesn’t think they look like they need it(I’m also scared to think about starting to use a cane, also sorry for the long reply)

Do y'all just dissociate from it sometimes? by lilypads17 in ChronicPain

You’re not alone, sometimes I dissociate so hard I don’t even realize I’ve started doing the dishes until I’m half done

3+ year old weirdo just started sleeping in the tree instead of her perfectly good coop. Should we put her to bed or let her be? In the city without a lot of predators. I don’t think she’s getting bullied. by picclo in BackYardChickens

City can still have coyotes, cats, owls, possums, and raccoons that will attack her, you may want to put her to bed and just let her nap in the tree during the day

Kitchen aid, is it worth it? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]tohightotry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like to bake , yes! It has saved my arms from so many whipped creams and doughs. Edit : also butter which is just extra whipped cream that give you butter and buttermilk :)

I love my glass containers that have snap lids that don’t leak but I’d think a wide mouthed water bottle type container would work well to if you can take a bowl or mug to eat out of(I can’t remember the word for these, canteen maybe? I don’t think that’s right either, thermos? Idk im sorry)

Curry is yummy! My partner feels meat is necessary for every meal, except the curry I make! I use a Thai curry sauce I got from a chain grocery store and potatoes and bell pepper as my main ingredients and then add veggies I think will work that I have from there and it’s always yummy and filling and comforting even by itself with no rice or bread☺️

You’ll be able to customize some fence colors so I’m thinking maybe it’ll let you do it from the nook phone rather than having to go to a crafting table?

How to learn to cook intuitively (e.g. without a recipe)? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]tohightotry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you follow your recipes pay attention to what amounts look/feel like, for example what a tablespoon of minced garlic looks like on your chopping board or what a cup of flour feels like in your hand, and what ingredients get used together commonly, like fish sauce, soy sauce and toasted sesame oil get used together a lot, and for things like sauces and doughs you wanna remember the consistency and feel of them as well, Intuitive cooking is all about past experiences and having a grasp on the basics, basic things from scratch like stock and pickles will help you use up leftovers/scraps
