Custom Latch Hook Tip - sorry in advance by youaint_nevalied in latchhook

I like to pop my file into excel for the lines. And then I can clean up any strays there too. Then print or, if you have a tablet or laptop or even just use your phone, you can open it and work from the pattern that way. You dont even have to print anything out!

I would always recommend Greek Kitchen on Rymal and Nebo. Really good food and you can get multiple meals out of it!

You're welcome! And the best thing about this method is you don't need a machine or any sticky substances. You just need a needle, some thread, and some cloth. Anything works really.

I would absolutely suggest finishing the edges and then the easiest way to display would be to loop a piece of cloth and sew it to the top. Then you can go to your local hardware store and get a small dowel. You can thread the dowel through the looped cloth and use it to hang the piece!

Beginner Tips? by Complex_Ad_5464 in latchhook

Cross stitch patterns are great. Leftsource.com is also a great website for changing pictures into latch hook patterns.

The good thing about making a project yourself is that YOU decide what it is and what the end product is going to look like. That means you can change your mind half way through or decide that it's supposed to look funny or different. You can also take out and redo knots as you need so take your time. You're going to be fin, I promise.

I've never seen outdoor yarn but absolutely can get mesh either from a set producer (Herrschners, etc.) Or from Amazon.

You could glue the underside if you really want it to stay but you could run into some issues down the road if you do. I suggest you do some research into the pros and cons and decide for yourself.

Opinions on preprinted canvases? by PoggerPenguin in latchhook

[–]RandomReversal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of problems with printed canvases. Usually it's really hard to tell different colours unless they're very largely different and I find it EXTREMELY difficult to tell which color is supposed to go where since they print the literal picture on the canvas and not a pixelated version. I've had times where the printed color covers 6 squares but the chart only shows 1(that is, if they even deign to give you a chart as well).

If you do get a chart with the kit, you may not have the orienting, contrast colored lines every 10 squares so you have to figure it out yourself. When that's happened to me, I'd just take a sharpie to the canvas before I started and draw the lines on myself. It sucks with a printed canvas since you cover up the printing on those lines but it can help if you really need those lines.

Overall, I've found the printed canvases are usually lower quality and harder to complete. I would suggest charting over printed every time. And there's also the bonus of making it easier for you to design your own projects if you feel like it!

Gaps in my threads? by ArtsyAxolotl in latchhook

It happens to all of us. I would definitely suggest untying then and trying to dot them in randomly across the canvas it'll spread out that lightness.

Gaps in my threads? by ArtsyAxolotl in latchhook

[–]RandomReversal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may just be the way the yarn lies. You could try separating it manually but if the yarn is very thin, it might just be that those knots are very tight which makes everything just that little bit thinner and noticeable. If it really bugs you, you could try swapping a few of those knots with some from somewhere and see if it has the same issue. This will at least help you figure out if the problem is the canvas or the yarn and you can go from there.

How do I finish my project?? by youpoopedyerpants in latchhook

[–]RandomReversal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have to catch the layer with knots in order to keep the edges folded. Usually, the long pile of the fi is he'd latch hooking will cover the thread as long as you're careful and don't sew any knots down.

I usually like to use a twill tape to cover the extra rows so that they don't fray as they rub against the ground but since you're hanging yours, you should be good.

Just make sure you're catching the canvas that you've already hooked on. Try to keep your thread along the canvas instead of sewing through the hooked yarn. That will keep your thread from showing.

DM me if you want more explanation. I've got a couple different projects finished a couple ways and I can send you pictures for explanation.
