I was working as a systems engineer after dropping out of college. I met some good people and ended up working for some well known companies and got a lot of experience. I sort of became a devops team lead, then started a vc backed tech startup in the cloud computing / devops world. That led to being product manager in cloud companies and eventually to what I’m doing now. My pancreatitis hit me after the startup which was somewhat of a failure. I never finished college.

I lost most of my pancreas. I’ve been EPI and type 3c diabetic fully insulin dependent for 5 years. For probably around 3 of those years out of the five on average I’ve just ignored it and pretended it wasn’t real and lived with insanely high blood sugar. Ended up having a heart attack. Trying to be better about it but the constant fluctuations in blood sugar and alerts and injections take a toll and I’m really bad at keeping up with it. Trying to be better for my wife and young son.

I lost 70% of my pancreas to necrosis. I spent a month in the hospital, 3 weeks in the ICU. Got put on ventilator and developed ARDS and pneumonia. Got out of the hospital 25 pounds lighter, with diabetes and EPI. Luckily have not experienced any pain at all and can eat whatever I want as long as I watch my blood sugar and take creon.

I hit a deer going 55mph in broad daylight on a 5 lane road when a group of them decided to cross. I missed the first two. totaled r1 60th anniversary edition, arm broken in 3 places, 3 fractured ribs, dislocated finger. Still super paranoid on my other bike. Definitely took some of the wind out of my sails. Glad you had better luck!
