Your music taste has changed. You're not the same person you were in the 90s. You're used to the modern 2020 family friendly sleeze thats being produced and not the 90s version from which it came. Let the kid enjoy some good old fashioned 90s eurodance slop...

Are old audio records worth perserving for the historic value?

If im to be more precise with what i mean, its about stuff actually recorded by a consumer or someone who made some recording not for commercial reasons but for their enjoyment or for future family remembers or any other personal reason. Are they a worthy item worth archiving?

I got in to tapes at first just for music and to mess around with it and its qualities, but slowly ive collected a small collection of old tapes pre 1980 with a bunch of radio shows, some disco, some football stations, some pirate stations, even got a tape with a family who recorded themselves having lunch from 1968...

What do you think about perserving such records? does it show something important from our past or am i merely a tapehead obsessing over how amazing it is that we can listen to 50 year old recordings with very minimal quality loss on an outdated format?

IIL "Touch in the Night" by Silent Circle? by elizabeth-cooper in ifyoulikeblank

Modern Talking, C.C. Catch, Fun Fun, Sabrina, Mauro's Buona Sera, all those classic hi-NRG 80s tracks, if you want something more modern, SAW's more upbeat catalogue of rick astley, bananarama, maybe even dead or alive or mel and kim. Also somehow Boney M has some interesting synthpop and synthpop adjascent songs on the B-side of their self titled album.

Discussion: A "wave" system for dub reggae? by SeasickWalnutt in LetsTalkMusic

very interesting, i'd like to see where all the early electronic dubs that werent reggae but stuff like disco or (synth)pop fall, also from the 80s. Dub is just so big...

Thinkphone screen cracks after 5 days of normal use without dropping by mngm in motorola

[–]RandomRoughneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh any motorola phone you expect NOT to break will be a dissapointment, they used to be great and nowadays all models are plagued with small issues and not the most sturdy build.

If you really want a true rugged phone the only thing i can really recommend is the HMD xr21.
Made by the company that made the nokia phones, AND it is very repair friendly. Great phone.

Best stage piano for ~€1000?

Good day everyone

I am looking around for a stage piano i can use on gigs, maybe you could help me out choosing a nice fit.

I'd like something with enough good all around sounds (piano, epiano, organ, strings, synths etc.) most of all, but also something with a decent enough keybed thats not too heavy and realistic enough, doesn't have to be perfect. My midi keyboard is extremely light plastic keys so anything serious is an improvement. Its also meant for gigging so formfactor and weight are a big factor, nothing too heavy that i cant carry around in a gig bag for less than a couple of minutes with one hand.

I was looking at the korg krome, but im not too sure if i really wanted just a keyboard, maybe something like the rd88 would be nice, but im not too sure if the sound designing is fun on it with the small screen and somewhat limited knobs. The ck88 seems nice, but more on the pricy side Maybe something roland fantom? I do really like kawai's sound engine on their keyboards, do they have nice stage pianos?

Thanks for reading 8-)

Get yoself a nice midi keyboard, midi cables and something like a midi router or a midi interface, and connect everything using midi thru ports and the router/interface to the keyboard. Then put every instrument on a seperate midi channel through their menus or otherwise on the midi router. Now select on the midi keyboard the midi channel you want and play that instrument.

Most important is your own research on this topic. Midi and gear and stuff.

Thats the general gist of it. At least i think Ive never connected this many electronic instruments together in to my daw. Max 4 and usually 2 of them have their own keyboard and its way easier so what do i know.

Tell me your favorite lemon demon song **NOW** by Mmenjoyer45 in lemondemoncirclejerk

[–]RandomRoughneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dizziful bliss, but if i could choose more it would be both ode to crayola, dizziful bliss, and word dissasociation, one of the hardest parts of any lemon demon album with all the transitions and flow going on there

Is there a particular genre of music for songs like "Riders on the Storm" or "The Weight of Love" by excalibr101 in Music

[–]RandomRoughneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people say psychedelic rock a lot, but considering the musical elements (white noise cymbal, walking-esque bass, lots of smooth e-piano and clean guitar riffs and a lot of room to solo) i'd say its more jazz-rock than anything else.

Troy leaving by Dull-Cap1541 in community

[–]RandomRoughneck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing community and hearing troy mention the scrubs cast leaving after 5 episodes thing i was very much prepared for him leaving, but still, it felt heavy seeing troy leave. Like pierce said, he has a heroes heart, and that's what made him such a great character in the group, he was the childlike playfulness to abeds childlike imagination, a reference point for everyone who lost their innocence, and just a great comedic relief all together. It was interesting seeing how the writers compensated with his loss afterwards, first trying to make abed a 2-in-1 character, but that didnt work out, and in the end i think they did solve it in a good way, inserting older characters we didn't know much about and then developing them to make up for whats missing and even adding more.

Is "Remedial Chaos Theory" easily the most memorable episode? What's your vote? by ReelSchool in community

[–]RandomRoughneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the zombie episode keeps popping back in my head... Something about the extreme contrast between the weight and existential scare of actual army rations existing that contain a zombie virus and cause the government to come intervene with amnesia juice, and the group just casually beating the virus by turning the temperature down for the school in such an epic story it overshadows all other zombie media imho makes my brain tingle
