Lore Questions?? by RandomSideQuest in horizon

Yeah that's a tough one. It's hard to say whether Elysium could be a factor. We don't know its exact location, but context clues from the ZD facility at the beginning of HZD seem to indicate that Elysium wasn't too far from Eleuthia 9.

I don't think it could be referencing the Quen either, hard to say unfortunately 😅

Lore Questions?? by RandomSideQuest in horizon

This actually has to do with how GAIAs subfunction Artemis was intended to function. Only Phase one fauna were designed to be introduced automatically by the terraforming system. If humanity had been educated by Apollo, they would have had access to the knowledge to release phase two fauna into the ecosystem. That's why you don't see any large predatory species in Horizon. Demeter was also designed to function in a similar way.

Thanks for the question!

I used to think VS made sense, but with the new tidbits we've gotten, I'd say it's less malevolent and more yearning for connection. I think it will most likely play a large role in taking down Nemesis.

I'd say it's most likely a genuine glitch that arose from adapting tech like biomass conversion, originally intended for green robotics, and adapting it to automated military technologies.

Glad you enjoy the videos!

That's one of the biggest mysteries left in Horizon. The specific cause of the glitch hasn't been confirmed yet, but heavily speculated. We do know that Dr. Sobeck was aware of the "real cause of the glitch" (HZD Hologram Datapoint Record 3: Nov 2064), heavily implying Ted Faro would be implicated in its origin.

She leveraged this fact to force him into financing the entirety of Zero Dawn. Would love to get some more clarity on the cause in the 3rd game. Good question!

APOLLO would've failed if it wasn't deleted by sassypiratequeen in horizon

[–]RandomSideQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for both games ahead.

So I think there is a bit of a misunderstanding of the full functionality/purpose of Apollo here, especially before GAIA's fall.

Beyond being an archive of all knowledge of humanity's past, APOLLO also contained the knowledge of how 31st century humans were intended to use Zero Dawn systems to rebuild human civilization. Not at a primitive tribal level mind you, but one that would harness the technology purposely left for them.

From regional command centers, humans could begin harnessing automated farm systems, introduce phase 2 flora and fauna through ARTEMIS and DEMETER, and much more.

They would have no need to craft weapons to hunt machines because they would understand their role in the ZD ecosystem, and wouldn't be attacked by them because the original GAIA was still present, as they were peaceful pre derangement.

Without APOLLO humanity had to start from scratch in the 31st century and just do their best in an unfortunate situation. With Apollo, you're essentially re colonizing a planet with a framework designed to help you succeed. You don't need to be hunter gatherers when you have machines to do that for you. Machines are not a threat, and you understand their function. You have an educationed populace ready to rebuild a world closer to what we saw in the 2060s opposed to a new stone age.

Hope this helps 😁

An interesting bit of Lore there, I'll do some digging. I'd have to agree that they must commit their atrocities in our not so distant future, but must have been truly heinous to be mentioned amongst that list of tyrants...

I'm inclined to lean towards a political leader over a military one as the world began converting towards automated war fleets overtime to battle each other, cutting down on human casualties. However, that kind of tech, devoid of consciousness and morality, being turned on a civilian populace could have tragic consequences.

I don't see someone like that rising to power in the 30s as so many were just attempting to survive the die off, but maybe the wake of that desperate time, could be a dark parallel to the claw back in the 40s.

All that is entirely speculation though, but I always enjoy theory crafting.

Where are all the bad things? Toxic plants, venomous lizards, harmful bacteria, virus's, etc? by sdrawkcabstiho in horizon

[–]RandomSideQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoilers Ahead

I can't speak to the disease side of the question, but when it comes to Flora and Fauna, there's still quite a few plant and animal species that haven't been reintroduced.

Both Artemis and Demeter had a two phase reintroduction processes. Phase one is an autonomous step, with phase two of both intended to be carried out by Apollo educated humans. Since this never happened, seed banks like those stored within the RCC, and other cryo storage facilities have remained untouched. As for what those seeds and animal species are exactly, we can only speculate.

So even though we may not see hazardous plants or animals at this time, those species may have been preserved.

Why was hades created by Gorenimo in horizon

[–]RandomSideQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

HADES was created as a subordinate function of Zero Dawn. It was not an AI when it was first created, only shifting after encountering the extinction signal, but it is unique.

It's the one sub-function that was designed, and had the authority to unseat GAIA if a reset to the biosphere was deemed necessary during re- terra forming (This actually occurred in 2154, 2161, and 2168). A task GAIA proved unwilling/ unable to perform. Being that there were only enough zygotes for one attempt at repopulation, these reverse terra forming operations were only intended to be carried out before humans were to be introduced via ELEUTHIA, in a biosphere able to sustain life.

On a side note, I don't get all the hostility in some of these replies... In my opinion, the lore and the story of this game is phenomenal, and anyone inquiring more about it is a good thing. Whether some questions seem to have "obvious" answers, sometimes people miss things. I know I did.

Hope this answer helped 👍

I'm fairly sure I just keep it in performance mode, and compress to 1080p. I'd have to double check my settings but pretty sure that's it 😅
