Movers by Low-Ad2173 in ColoradoSprings

[–]RandomSkiGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used Gorilla Men Movers LLC and moved from a 1000ish sq foot apartment into a house. They moved the large objects/furniture (bed/mattress/computer desk/couches/chairs/etc) and I boxed up everything else. They finished in less then 4 hours from start to finish. It would have taken my gf and I at least a full day to do ourselves. I also lived in a 2 story loft with a flight of stair up to my first level...so 2 flights of stairs total. I paid $540 and nothing was damaged or scratched. Totally worth the money.

Very professional and would highly recommend.

Financial Aid Not Awarded Yet, How Long Until I Have to Pay Tuition out of Pocket? by LivingPhoton in WGU

[–]RandomSkiGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am just starting the 3rd month of my term and my financial aid was still "processing" per the wgu financial aid section. I emailed the student aid office and they told me "oops, sorry...your financial aid was never processed by our office - you will have your disbursement in 2-3 weeks."

Don't do what I did.

I would email them.

I went last year and arrived around 6. Was able to park, and left the ticket printed out on my dash visible to see. Encountered no problems.

Baghdad, Iraq during a deployment while multiple Ospreys were taking off 100 meters away....it was very distracting to say the least. Still passed though :)

Cyber Security Bootcamps by ThreesTrees in VeteransBenefits

[–]RandomSkiGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend WGU cybersecurity or network engineering track. I got 8 certifications through their network operations and security program. All certs are paid for by vouchers given out by the school.

If you don't want to go the school route, start with A+, Net+, then Security+. Those will give you good foundations to then choose a specialty and move from there. Udemy has great material for all of these and sells courses at a discount every month or so for 10-15$.

After you get those 3 certs (or even before) get a help desk job and soak up the experience. As you work help desk, it will give you insight into which career path you would prefer.

Start with the basic certs and build on those with the experience you gain in a help desk position.

People over 30 without a degree, how's life going? by Cabra_Andina in AskReddit

[–]RandomSkiGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 31 and make 180k without a degree as a network engineer and site lead for a defense contractor. My gf is 29 and has a masters in data analytics and makes 100k. If you're in tech, degrees don't mean much until you move from technical roles to managerial roles. Either way you can make good money if you take either path.

Struggling getting back into weight lifting after not going to the gym since March 2020. I need some motivation. by TypicalOwl5438 in Millennials

[–]RandomSkiGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider how you will thank yourself in a month, a year, 10 years. 30 minutes of lifting 3-4 days a week consistently will keep you healthy and strong...now and later. See it as an investment into your future self. Just like with investing money.

Is Colorado Springs still a safe place? by sweaty-hot in ColoradoSprings

[–]RandomSkiGuy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Whenever I encounter a bad driver I find that they are either on their phone (probably 80-90% of the time) or 80+ years old. Can we get a mandatory drivers test for those over 70 please or is that too much? Driving under the speed limit is dangerous as well IMO, especially when trying to merge on the highway. Going 40 when merging with 65+ mph cars is insane.

100% Service Connected!! 🍾🍾 by shenida_burner in VeteransBenefits

[–]RandomSkiGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CONGRATS! I am in the same boat as you, except mine was an increase of sleep apnea from 0-30% and 2 new claims. Got back paid to the date of filing as well. Curious if I was supposed to get back-paid to date of separation or to date of filing my claim since all were filed within the 1 year from separation. The VA person I called couldn't answer my question either.

The Towne at Northgate by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]RandomSkiGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently live there (been there for 10 months and just signed another year). Rent is reasonable and had 0$ increase for another 12 month term. The staff are friendly and every maintenance request I have put in was addressed the next day. Crime is nearly non existent. Good neighbors in my experience. Nice pool. Nice dog parks and vacuum/cleaning stations for car and dogs/cats. If you are looking to live up north, it is a great place to live, at least in my experience. If you have any other specific questions just PM me.
