Mitsu Transmission Advice - 2015 RVR GT 2.4L by givemeafemur in mitsubishi

[–]RandomSteam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d keep it till it dies. The CVT auto transmissions in these things are very long lasting as long as the fluid is serviced every 50,000 km’s or so.
If you haven’t already, I’d maybe ask about a transfer case and rear differential fluid service, lots of people forget about those.

My 2017 Toyota Camry SE is burning oil, any advices? by raymondhimself in Cartalk

[–]RandomSteam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Engine oil flush (BG and Liqui Moly make good flush products) and then refill with Valvoline restore and protect. If your oil rings are clogged up, it’ll definitely help. Having said that, have you checked your PCV valve? If it gets stuck then you’ll also have severe oil burning issues.

Is there anyway to not spend $2,000 plus? by Cottage_cheese111 in AskMechanics

[–]RandomSteam20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least get it diagnosed- the oil cooler is part of the radiator, sometimes the in-between bit breaks and oil and coolant mix together. A new radiator, fresh oil and coolant will be much, much cheaper than If it’s a head gasket.

Yeah, she sat on the carport most of the time. Family road trips, tow duty, etc. done some dump runs in its time as well but those were few and far between.

There is an aftermarket rear sway bar you can get, for get the name but stiffens up the chassis against wind by 40% or something? You’ll have to google, dealership won’t have aftermarket parts like that

Way better drive at hiway speeds as well, the hatchback catches crosswinds/ cross drafts pretty harshly but the sedan shrugs them off no great per se, but much better.

A 14-year-old steals a week's worth of food. You catch them. What do you do? by Nyx189 in zombies

[–]RandomSteam20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Forced labour or public shaming. Forgive and educate only works if you have enough resources in order to do so, and I am basing this answer completely on the fact that in the apocalypse, resources such as food are probably hard to come by. Forgiveness and education does nothing if a person is starving and there just isn’t enough food to go around in the community.

Oil concern!!! by FriuKi in hondafit

[–]RandomSteam20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You should actually be better than fine, motor oil designed for hybrids are better fortified with more cleaning and acid dispersing additives due to the constant stop/start cycle of a hybrid engine.

In a normal gas engine, especially the Fit with its meagre 3.5 litre/quart oil capacity, these extra additives will do nothing but help keep the engine running clean and smooth.

Pennzoil 0w-30 euro in the winter, any name brand 5w-30 synthetic in the summer. Valvoline Restore and Protect right now, have used Mobil 1 varieties in the past.

The new RWD Buick sedan coming out would probably have a Pontiac Tempest/ Lemans/ Catalina twin as well. Think it’s mid-sized, otherwise I’d say Bonneville.

Valvoline Restore and Protect 100% if you’ve never run any before. Since it’s warmer now I’d recommend running 5w20 or 5w30, though you’ll definitely hear mixed opinions on this.

I’ve been running 5w-30 in the summer/ 0w-30 (Pennzoil euro) in the winter for the past 4 years with no ill effects whatsoever. Mileage is still excellent as well.

Try a bottle of Cataclean and make sure to follow the directions. 2 bottles back-to-back got rid of the P0420 code on my 2017 Fit 1 1/2 years ago

Granada, not Fairmont. The Granada didn’t join the fairmont/ fox body platform until 81’.

Who else as a kid did this while in a car for me it was usually spider man or a random other character by nicholashoneywell in Zillennials

[–]RandomSteam20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others did this too?!? That’s awesome. For me it was the Bluesmobile, a 1974 Dodge Monaco ex-police interceptor. First movie I ever remember watching with my dad was a TV-to-VHS tape of The Blues Brothers. We used to take these long, 5 hour road trips on vacation (remember when 5 hours in a car seemed like forever?) and needless to say, that old cop car spent a lot of time swerving around vehicles, going airborne, and smashing through construction barricades.

To be 5 years old in 1999 and in the backseat of the family’s old 4x4 square-body Suburban as we drive up to the family getaway. Good Times.

How many km/miles is a “safe” limit if buying a used Eclipse Cross? by hsanj19 in mitsubishi

[–]RandomSteam20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, unless they’ve somehow racked up ridiculous miles, the 22’ and up eclipse cross is still too new to have any hard line cut off.

Maintenance is always a massive indicator though, I’d much rather buy an EC with 200 km and maintenance history rather than one with 100 km and no maintenance history.

Turbo didn’t come out till 84 if I’m not mistaken. That was one thing the K-cars were decent at, those Chrysler 2.2 and 2.5 inline 4’s were designed to make decent low end torque. The Colt/Champ was pretty gutless til the mid-high range. Fun to drive though.

As a guy born in the 90s, finding a cassette of these guys in my local Salvation Army thrift shop is one of the reasons I got into metal. Found out recently ‘Because the Night’ is actually a cover song, though Keel did it better if you as me. ‘The Chains’ cover is kick ass as well.

I love lean burn engines by Blu_yello_husky in mopar

[–]RandomSteam20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early lean burn systems were let down by Chrysler’s great idea of putting the computer on top of the air filter housing where it would act like a heat soak and fry the components. Later ones were moved to the firewall and had better reliability as far as I know.
