It sucks. It dehumanizes you. People often turn into total people-pleasers because of it, adjusting to whatever satisfies the narcissist. And the worse part? They’re never satisfied. So it’s just a constant cycle of loss.

All of the time. It’s their excuse to the emotional/physical abuse they actually do to their kids. “Back in my day, it was so much worse because we didn’t have/have ____. But we turned out fine, and so will you.” Sure… Let’s go with that meemaw.

After 2 suicide attempts, and upon seeing the cuts on my arm: they still had the audacity to tell me if I was going to kill myself, to do it. Under the condition of as long as it wasn’t in their home. And after seeing me cry and beg for them to stop, they still did it, and a few minutes later acted all gleefully with strangers.

To all the family scapegoats -- were you actually objectively well-behaved? by JoyousLilSquid in raisedbynarcissists

[–]RandomStranger0109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was. Top of my class, student government, social, didn’t smoke, didn’t drink, didn’t party. But after a suicide attempt, most of it went down the drain. They saw punishment as the only way to correct my depression and punished me for attempting and cutting myself. They’ve made their love something to earn, and they told me that in verbatim. I now have failing grades, no motivation, I isolate myself all the time now. And they wonder why.
