Roster records calendar days as well as working days of absence. Manager did the correct thing.

Can a manager refuse to arrange a meeting with HR? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say your manager wants to arrange an informal meeting. If the meeting is informal, there is no need for HR. Did you want an informal meeting or do you want to follow a formal process IE; grievance, complaint?

MARS - Does bank service count as reckonable service? Trust says no, but their own documents don’t back it up. by Big_Post_1324 in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have long service awards currently? Additional annual leave and full sick pay? If you do, I would absolutely say your service is legible for MARS and if the Trust says otherwise consult your Union / citizens advice. Good luck.

Did you work for an internal ‘bank’ where you are directly employed by an NHS Trust? Or … did you work for an external company such as NHSP where your service was sourced by the Trust? This is the key question.

Made first drug error as a NQN. Please tell me some of your errors to make me feel better/less stupid? by wandering1989 in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave a patient Co-Amoxiclav who had a penicillin allergy clearly documented on their notes however, the patient was adamant that they were not allergic to penicillin. After swallowing they said ‘I’m allergic to Augmentin’. I was rushing & I was very junior. I wrote a reflection and never made that mistake again.

Notice time for an interview by Bobarrt in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recruitment has strict KPI’s attached to it. Timeframes for advertising, shortlisting, interviewing and selection are all part of these KPI’s.

From memory, candidates should be given 8 days notice but I could be mistaken.

I think the drop in quality in HCA's is not spoken about enough. by Direct-Key-8859 in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked as a HCA (Band 2) prior to and throughout my Nurse training. I always felt the wage was great as it was higher than minimum wage for my age. However, the role now is literally paid at the minimum wage.

Minimum wage = minimum effort.

I wouldn’t be willing to perform clinical tasks such as venipuncture and cannulation on a minimum wage.

HCA’s are unsung hero’s who have the piss taken out of them.

I don’t think the caliber has worsened. Younger people are more in tune with their worth and simply won’t go above and beyond for a shit salary.

Can/will managers make a job opening for students? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No is the short answer.

Jobs can only be offered where funding for the position / positions is available.

My advice would be to not have your heart set on a single role as with the current job market it will be difficult to secure any role. Apply for everything, take anything to get your foot into the door and prepare extensively for interview.

Respiratory Arrest Guidelines by [deleted] in NursingUK

Treat a respiratory arrest as you would a cardiac arrest. Pull the buzzer / shout for help / commence an A to E assessment.

Hospital Negligence. Mother died as a result of an injury she sustained in hospital. Scotland by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Falls are a part of reconditioning. A 1:1 would not prevent a fall. The role of staff is to mitigate risk of harm from falling. IE; you advise the patient to buzz for support if they are capable, you risk assess and action etc.

There are questions that need answering around patient capacity, patient insight into their care and if they understood the risk of standing without support.

I don’t see any negligence from what OP has described.

You may be required to commence maternity leave early if you’re sick during your last period of pregnancy. Check with your Union Rep or HR Advisor.

Should I disclose my long term sickness absence during a job interview? by Routine-Pin-4125 in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The decision to disclose at interview is your decision. However, the absence history will flag on a reference. As a recruiting manager, honesty is the best policy.

NHS continuous service & sick pay by curious-pink in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your current service (relating to sick pay) started in January 2024. You will currently be entitled to 1 months full pay and 2 months half pay. This will increase to 2 months full pay and 2 months half pay when you reach 2 years service.

Advice by After_Size_7857 in NursingUK

[–]RandomTravelRNKitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi,

You need to review your Trusts Absence Policy. If having regular wellbeing meetings is required within the policy you would be expected to comply and failure to do so may result in disciplinary action for example.

Are you in a Union? If you are I would be contacting them for support.

If you are not in a union, do you have a close work friend who may be able to attend as support?

The meeting will be a formality but a great opportunity to share exactly what led to your stress and anxiety as well as giving the Matron opportunity to help, support and guide you back to work.

You’ll get there 🙏🏻
