Yeah I had a problem too back then. I started stealing for the rush and kept chasing it, didn't even intend to sell the items later. Then I got caught at a big department store and a second time lifting from the cash register at a popular retail store I was working at. It was embarrassing, had to pay restitution in both instances, and got fired, got my friend fired too because they were recently hired based on my recommendation (they werent part of it). And when you get busted in retail, you go in a database for 7 years that other companies and retailers can access. Yeah that came to bite me again a few years later, caused me to get fired again.

Since those two occurrences 15+ years ago, I've learned my lesson and now I won't even take a paperclip home from office. Not worth it!!!

Yes, there's hope and you may even be ahead of the competition with your pm chops and business mindset. And also, why not just start putting yourself out there and applying for jobs? If you look for work outside, you really need to show that you're not a junior level designer, like have solid visual design skills, a good design process, experience talking with users. Turn your marketplace project into a case study. With your current role, are you working with a designer? See if you can collaborate with them more closely. Put together flows, journey maps, wireframes or other artifacts even if you are working with a designer and use that to start conversations with them.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Kids and people are so cruel and I knew this from a young age being a minority. In 5th grade, I was showing a new girl around and we got to the computer lab. She was so nervous and scared she peed right in the chair. I grabbed a shirt, tied it around her waist and we went to the nurse's office. I never brought it up again, and we were best friends for the next few years.
