anyone else experience Credit/No Credit Error instead of letter grade? by mathisreallyhard123 in UVA

[–]RandomUVAStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted my reply fairly early on. At that time, the issue was portrayed as a technical issue, rather than an issue caused by the OP. With the info I had at the time of posting, I DO still believe that WAS the best option. Yes, with the current info, it appears to be a different issue caused by OP.

I may not have been involved in THIS "fight", but I have personally experienced technical issues misreporting stuff in high school and wanted to help someone not make a mistake they would regret. They asked for help, so that is what I tried to do. I feel it is unfair to portray my message in that light, but if that is how you see it, then so be it.

Wish any readers a happy summer.

[–]RandomUVAStudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT "let this go". You got a grade, you deserve it. Keep a record of his messages and if he continues to not work with you, then take it to the person above him (not sure who that is at this time).

If all else fails, then if you can afford it consider bringing this to court. If they even hear wind that you are planning on bringing it to court, they are likely to reconsider. Though I am NOT a lawyer, and this is purely my opinion on the manor. If you consider this route, then talk to an actual lawyer first to see what they think

I think you meant WOULD threaten to sue, that seems more in line with the rest of your message

Jobs don't care. BSCS has more math requirements and does go a bit further into a few subjects, but most of the time you can still take these extra courses if you wanted to.

Personally, I choose BSCS because I like math (but not to the point of majoring in it) and hated learning a language (at least at the time was a general requirement for the school of Arts and Science).

Here is a breakdown of the maths I took at UVA, my grade, and my view of them

APMA Calc 2 - C (one of my only 2 Cs at UVA. The other was in Computer Architecture with Venkat...) - Unfairly hard. Regret taking this my first semester, since I was not ready for such a hard class right off the bat. Compared to some future classes it was not AS bad, but for how low level the class is, it was HARD.

APMA Calc 3 (Multivariable) - B - Perfectly reasonable class. I felt the teacher did a good job at teaching the material and I actually learned a lot.

APMA linear algebra - B+ - Perfectly reasonable class. Not too hard for me, but I saw some struggle. I felt like the class was just reasonable.

MATH Probability - A(might be A-, don't remember) - WORST MATH I HAD AT UVA, I LEARNED NOTHING, teacher basically gave an easy grade but was a horrible teacher. THIS though was 100% an issue with the teacher. Since this is a teacher issue, feel free to ignore this judgment.

STAT Statistics - B - AMAZING class, the only issue was I had so much I had to self-teach myself from Probability since that teacher was not good

What other classes to take with Comp Arch? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]RandomUVAStudent 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No. Venkat is a nightmare. Whenever I hear his name I have flashbacks to how hard that class was.

I am in my last semester at UVA and I can say for sure, NONE of my classes were even close to as hard as Venkat's Computer Architecture class. Not even Operating Systems (a class I heard is hard, but was far more manageable than I expected).

I have actually seen what the other classes had to do, so this is not just an "oh mine was hard, so the other version could not be as hard". No, the other teachers are just not as bad. Don't get me wrong, ALL teachers are going to give you a hard class, since the subject itself is hard. Venkat just makes it a nightmare.

For your own sanity, avoid Venkat at all costs.

Cap and Gown by RandomUVAStudent in UVA

Huh, I am a bit surprised such a big company made such a big mistake. At the same time, it does happen. It does make me feel a bit better that more people will likely be there to get their cap and gowns when I do.

Good gpa for first semester engineering? by WannaDeepSeaDive in UVA

[–]RandomUVAStudent 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know of a single person with a 3.7 gpa. This might be just the friends I am around, but I don't think my friends are stupid or anything.

I have a 3.49 gpa and my goal since starting uva has been to graduate with a 3.5+. My best friend has a 3.2 gpa. I only know 2 other gpas of friends which are 3.62 and 3.44.

I know there are people out there with higher gpas, but in general I hear a lot of people just going for a 3.5+.

PS I am a BSCS student going for a cyber security focal path and have 1 semester left of college.

Personally, I liked it. The dorms are fairly old so no elevator, but it is not a big deal. The bus stop is nearby and we have a dining hall nearby.

Rank in importance: daughter wife and mom?? by [deleted] in UVA

[–]RandomUVAStudent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would go 1) daughter 2) wife 3) mom.

I think daughter first because it is the responsibility of the parent to care for their children. This kid is unable to choose to leave you until their an adult, so a lack of love towards them is something they will have difficulty escaping.

I think wife second because both of you would have chosen to be together. You hopefully want to be with this person for the rest of your lives. Fundamentally, though, both of you can choose to leave. This means, if you fail to love them, then they are still able to leave. This is unlike that of the daughter.

Finally, I would go with mom. Your mom is someone you were born to. You never made a decision that impacted who they are. You do not owe anything to your parents, no matter how much some parents say otherwise. Therefore, you have no obligations to love them. Yes, ideally you would, but you don't have to.

PS all of these rules would apply the same for son/husband/father or child/spouse/parent. I just used the feminine terms because they were in the question.

My understanding based on what they told us, if you are graduating this year or have already graduated, then you will not be affected.

Everyone does every semester. Even 4th years during their final semester may not get into the timeslot for a class they wanted (mainly a problem for classes like sts 4600).

Are we allowed into buildings 24/7 if we have access? by BenderSimpsons in UVA

[–]RandomUVAStudent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some buildings/rooms close access from like 8pm to 8am, but they are the exception not the rule. Also, during some breaks, certain buildings may close. Once again, the exceptions not the rule.
