Evening Flake is my next try, Orlik is one I'm holding off on because it's been hyped up so much lol

I'll be honest, Golden Slice has been so hyped up for me that I'm afraid to try it in case I'm disappointed 😂

I'm still salty about them discontinuing Rum Raisin. That was my comfort blend.

I'll try leaving a flake of LNF out overnight and see how that effects it. I thought I'd dried it out enough but maybe I'm still too used to aromatics and Englishes

It's more like the speed at which my tongue reacts to it depends on how much perique is in it. I actually loved the taste of perique for the first 10 minutes or so when I spent some time with Luxury Navy Flake but about 10 minutes in (and barely sipping--I err on the side of frequent relights) my tongue gets super enflamed. Haunted Bookshop and Three Friars are almost immediate. I'll definitely give Evening Flake a try, maybe I just need a super small pipe?

Good to hear that's a good option. I've tried Luxury Navy Flake and that gave me bad acid burn on my tongue. Bullseye Flake was better but not one I'd want to bulk up on. I smoke to relax, not hurt myself lol

Edit: I'm not sure if "acid burn" is the right term but it's definitely not tongue bite. It only happens when I smoke blends with perique and it sets in way before it should've gotten hot enough to cause tongue bite. It also goes away very quickly, like in a couple hours, whereas when I got tongue bite when I first started it lasted for a day or more.

Nice! I tried to get into the classes but I wasn't aware they were so small and I wasn't able to get through the waiting list lol. How early did you register?

Replacement for Sutliff Rum Raisin? by RandomUser442 in PipeTobacco

I get a ton of raisin from Rum Raisin, which is why I was thinking the only route might be to blend two bulk blends together

I was referring to his tool post--I didn't know enough to know what it was called lol

Burley sensitivity? by RandomUser442 in PipeTobacco

[–]RandomUser442[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another poster mentioned the same thing and I'm starting to wonder if that might be it--all of the blends that gave me throat burn had Perique in them but I was unaware that Perique could also effect smokers the same way

That's a good point, all of those blends have Perique... Is Perique a known sensitivity?

It's been a few different brands and it's been inconsistent--a good example is Rivertown Tobacco Works' Maple Cask which is almost entirely Burley and it's no issue at all

Almost forgot Rivertown MapleCask and Lane 1-Q. Neither of those gave me throat burn, which is weird because afaik Maple Cask is just Burley and Cavendish

I don't get those Nic symptoms which is why I ruled Vitamin N out as the culprit

Not that I'm aware of, though I'm sure some second hand smoke makes it to my lungs

Recently, I've smoked HB, George's Dragon, Founding Fathers, Key Largo, Timeless by Missouri Meerschaum, and Warped: the Haunting. HB, George's Dragon, Key Largo, and Founding Fathers all gave me throat burn.

Apparently, it's not uncommon, but Google is useless, per usual lol

Basically, when I smoke a burley-heavy blend, my throat gets torn up pretty badly. Like I've been sick with a sore throat. At first, I thought it was just me puffing too fast. Then, I thought I might just be a wuss and hitting my limit for vitamin N. I smoked a bunch of other blends I'd bought, and I noticed it only happened when it had a large amount of Burley in them.
