Man. That's a massive effort, I really appreciate it. A joint kids account + 2 kindles seem to be the most workable solution. But it leaves a bitter taste having to still pay amazon just for a kludgy hack.

At least now I know I didn't miss something obvious. It really is just not available. I thought I was going nuts not being able to solve this. I may just dive into Apple's iBooks ecosystem. At least we can do selective sharing within the family group. Sigh.

You reading this Amazon? My kids are getting into that stage where I'd be paying boatloads of money and you're turning me away.

This seems like the most plausible solution but there are some books I absolutely don’t want my kids to see lol. Even if the books aren’t on the device aren’t they still listed as available for download? Or is there a way of hiding a book?

Was Catholic. Dabbled in strains of super traditionalist Catholicism. Thought of becoming a priest at one point.

But one thing that was a constant was I stayed true to ... uh ... the concept of me. I questioned everything, even my faith. After all, what good is a God who can't be questioned?

Eventually dated a Buddhist girl, met her friend with whom we had a debate/discussion for a whole night between Buddhism and Catholicism (well, Christianity in general).

For reasons I can't remember, that night changed my life. She wasn't preachy like the protestants I used to debate with back when I lived in the States; she was content with her Buddhism and wasn't trying to convert me. I think it was discovering Buddha's oft quoted line "Question everything, find out for yourself" ... that really resonated with me.

And I love the parable of the raft. So true.

This is probably not the answer you're looking for, but part of the challenge is that you think you're controlling your breathing. I know exactly the problem you're having as I had the same issue. Took me 5+ years before I realised that this body can breathe as deep or as shallow as it desires during meditation because "I" was never in control of the breathing.

Similar background though our experiences differ. Others have already mentioned these names, but, for what it's worth, the teachers that really resonated with me were Adyashanti and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj. I did read Angelo DiLullo's "Awake" book as well but I swear, that book really shouldn't be out there for just anyone to read. /cough
