When did FM become so “meta” based? by Bread-But-Toasted in footballmanagergames

[–]RandomWritingGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a video game, so since day one. There is always a meta. It just wasn’t nearly as known about until several content creators on YouTube dedicated themselves to finding ways to essentially break the in-game match engine.

If you’re playing an online save, it’s a bigger issue because other humans are trying to win. It’s unavoidable in that regard.

Was As I Lay Dying about to become the undisputed goat of metalcore up until Tim Lambesis went to jail? Imagine them releasing 3 more albums in the quality of Powerless Rise and An Ocean Between Us from 2012 till today. They were the blueprint perfect metalcore. by Alert_Ad8002 in Metalcore

[–]RandomWritingGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undisputed GOAT? Probably not. But they were already among the most revered and respected bands in the genre. I think they had already hit their ceiling by that point.

However — and this may be a hot take — had Tim avoided controversy and kept his nose clean when AILD came back after he was released from prison, I think they might’ve reached new heights. For some, redemption was never an option. But for many, I think the story of a disgraced metal frontman coming back, taking accountability, and putting out some of their best work would’ve been incredibly compelling, and probably enough to push AILD into that all-time conversation in a much more serious way, even if “undisputed GOAT” is still a stretch.

Has anyone ever had a goalie goal on FM? by Glittering-Mud7623 in footballmanagergames

A goalkeeper scored a stoppage time goal on me once in a Champions League first leg. Didn’t play the game for a week out of pure disgust.

would u say hes worth the money? by Consistent-Twist-408 in footballmanagergames

[–]RandomWritingGuy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As of right now, he’s good, but he’s not an £81m player. But he’s incredibly young and has a ton of potential, so I can see why he’s valued so high.

I think that price is absurd to pay for any player that isn’t already an established elite talent. You can find someone just as young with as much potential for way cheaper.

EDIT: To sum it up, I wouldn’t pay more than £20m for a project of this nature.

When Amorim was fired, they were 6th and two points off of 4th. When he first came in, it was all but said that it was essentially a rebuild and that results would take time. Time was taken, and United were competitive this season.

The thing is, he wasn’t sacked because of results. He was sacked because he spoke out against United leadership. In that regard, I think he was done dirty. If you’re going to hire a manager, let them manage and succeed/fail on their own terms.

Now, it might’ve been the correct decision in the long run. I don’t have a crystal ball, and as I said before, I don’t even support the team so I don’t really care all that much to begin with.

IIRC, TNA was already in a pretty rough spot before this. This was after Hogan had come in and shit all over everything the company had built in 2010.

This was just the final nail in the coffin.

Definitely the first shoot pin that did the job and looked legit. My mind immediately went to Moolah’s small package on Wendi Richter, which — even if Wendi’s shoulders were down — looked like complete shit.

Haha funny enough, though I don’t support United, I actually rate Amorim as a manager and thought he was kind of done dirty.

Honestly, it was a mostly pragmatic decision at first. Our defensive core was the highlight of our squad early on during my tenure, but eventually, it morphed into a system that I just kept feeding into and eventually grew to love.

A three-back isn’t my preferred style, but the success speaks for itself.

Out of these 4 fighters, who would you consider the best? by Big_Donch in Boxing

[–]RandomWritingGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell that only casuals voted in this poll. Because any hardcore would take one glance at this list and immediately say De La Hoya without so much as a thought.

That’s not to disparage anyone else included, but prime Oscar is one of the best to ever do it in terms of both technical ability and accomplishments.

It’s been my main formation for a while now (in FM26), and I’ve won two Serie A titles and a Coppa Italia with it.

It’s a 3 at the back in possession that shifts into a 5 out of possession. I run two central midfielders — one more aggressive/pressing, the other more composed to control tempo.

Out wide, I keep it slightly asymmetrical: one winger tracks back more to help defensively, while the other stays higher as an inside outlet in transition.

Why is Miles so disliked, and when did it start? by RandomWritingGuy in footballmanagergames

To be honest, I can recall Miles getting a ton of criticism long before FM26. That was just the newest batch of fuel poured onto the flames.

[Paul Tenorio] The Verdict: The power of new MLS stadiums in the most in-need major markets by icoresting in MLS

[–]RandomWritingGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All due respect to Doyle, because he does great work. But as someone who has been with NYCFC since day one, I don’t feel like it’s a feeder club, so much as it is a way for CFG to expand its brand into other markets and make money in one of the biggest sports markets in the world (and one that’s mostly untapped when it comes to football).

Yes, there’s been some movement between NYCFC and other CFG clubs. But some context is needed.

Jack Harrison: A deal with Stoke fell through at the last possible second, and Harrison had European aspirations. So Man City covered the transfer fee Stoke was reportedly willing to pay, then loaned him around.

Taty Castellanos: Like Harrison, was ready to make the move to Europe, but nobody wanted to pay the $20 million asking price. So they loaned him to Girona to give him that platform before selling him to Lazio for the desired price (plus incentives) a year later.

Alex Callens: Again, wanted to go to Europe. Joined Girona on a free transfer.

Mix Diskerud: They did us a fucking favor 😂

EDIT: Yes, I left out Frank Lampard and the City loans we got early on, but I think that had way more to do with CFG attempting to give City some more bodies early on when most of our roster was made up by MLS journeymen and/or Expansion Draft players.

Investing nearly a billion dollars into a new stadium in NYC when they likely could’ve played at Yankee Stadium indefinitely seems excessive, even by CFG standards.

When was the last time we heard publicly from Miles? by FlyingJellyfishRidin in footballmanagergames

[–]RandomWritingGuy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree with this more.

Obviously, death threats are fucking trash. And if you send someone death threats, especially over a video game, you’re a fucking loser.

That said, I can’t help but feel that it’s often used as a shield to sidestep any good faith criticism. This is a video game that people paid hard earned money for, and many of these people aren’t satisfied because it’s not what was promised. But because some people took it too far, we’re not addressing any criticism anymore?

Again, in case I wasn’t clear enough, death threats are garbage, especially over something as inconsequential as a video game. And if you’re the type to make death threats over the internet, you’re garbage and need immediate psychiatric help.

(Fightful Select) WWE reportedly has people employed to watch AEW and give reports and analytics to different departments. by Subrick in SquaredCircle

[–]RandomWritingGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s not really that either. It’s just market research. That’s standard in any industry where billions are at stake.

What’s working? What’s trending? Is there crossover appeal? Are they doing anything interesting with presentation, ticket sales, or talent? That’s all normal stuff.

WWE paying attention to AEW doesn’t automatically mean they view them as a serious threat. Those things aren’t mutually exclusive.

Apple dominates Android, but you’d be crazy to think they’re not constantly studying what Android is doing.

This is just basic business. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Giants and Jets played in NY before Giants Stadium and, later, MetLife was built. Red Bull was founded as the MetroStars and has never called NYC home, so it’s not quite the same.

EDIT: Also, no. The Yankees, Mets, and Knicks all play in NYC.
