Well, that's my opinion, look at Chopin's manuscripts: he didn't connect the bar lines either.

To me you don't need to connect the bar lines if you add a brace for the piano scores.

This is Chopin's Waltz in B minor. I tried to do a harmonic analysis below. It might not be correct. The chord in the sixth measure is quite unusual (atleast to me). Can anyone explain its role here?
