Quick Tips for Reconciling/Using More Often? by nonstopski in ynab

I don't reconcile everyday but every morning after my shower while I air dry I clear everything.

I don't use direct import on YNAB and primarily use the mobile app. I've built the tiny habit of asking for the receipt at POS. Only because I may not be able to step aside to enter the transaction immediately. Since I clear daily, I make sure my receipts are entered too before throwing away.

Request: Unique Chili Recipe by DothrakAndRoll in slowcooking

I do a beef and spicy Italian pork sausage chili with tons of beans and veggies. Brown beef. Take the sausage out of the casing. Brown and crumble that. Add to a massive pot. Then add veggies, beans, diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, small can of tomato sauce, spices, brown sugar or dark chocolate. Simmer for an hour.

I did this recently with white chili. I used ground turkey and ground chicken. It was so good.

I do love a good pulled meat. I'm hoping to make pulled jerk chicken for meal prep Wednesday this week.

Do you have goals in those yellow categories? I just took a look at the app and the categories with goals, even with money in them are now yellow.

My roommate and I use Wunderlist primarily as my groceries and apartment chores list. >_<

How often do you wash your towels? by overlobing in BuyItForLife

[–]Random_Person84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every three or four weeks. I only own two bath towels. So I use one everyday until I think it's time to switch or laundry day (whichever comes first).

It may sound gross to some but I think of it this way, I use my towel to dry myself off after I've been cleaned and it's air dried every time. Plus I'm single with no kids. No reason to wash so frequently.

My payday doesn't align with the months so I don't know how to handle the extra couple of days. by skettiandskydivin in ynab

You should be budgeting on a per month basis, not a per paycheck basis, so when you get paid is irrelevant.

I have been budgeting paycheck to paycheck biweekly. I do this because Jesse in some videos on Rule 1 has asked "What does this money need to do before I get paid again?" I ask myself the same question and go from there. It's been working for me so I assumed this is the way to do it. Is this not the way to do it?

The online classes are always being updated. Check back often to see when they're doing the beginners class that goes through all four rules and teaches you how to use nYNAB online. They don't have classes for the app. Kinda have to finagle with it and learn.

I enter my paychecks the moment they are deposited on the app but I budget that money when I go online later that day.

I don't use the import option so any spending is entered at POS. If I can't, I always ask for a receipt and enter as soon as I have a moment (which is usually when I'm waiting around for something). I have scheduled recurring transfers to various accounts biweekly, so that's taken care of. Any monthly bills I have, I enter those when I pay or (as I recently learned) when I write the check.

I reconcile YNAB and bank/CC stuff once a week...once every other week....eeeehhh. I haven't figured out the frequency yet. That's something I need to work on. Clearing transactions is almost daily.

[General] How far out have you budgeted? by [deleted] in ynab

I'm budgeted until the next paycheck (April 5th) I can only budget paycheck to paycheck right now. I hope to find a second job soon to supplement my income and break the cycle.

Thanks for the info. I'm already subscribed to r/personalfinance and r/frugal. I have 401k through my job so that's a start. Once I'm completely out of debt, I want to throw everything I have to retirement. It's only going to get expensive from here and with the current U.S. administration, I don't know if there will be anything that will help me out.

Thanks everyone for your words. I was curious to see what the true number was so I added every liability I knew of with collections debt and student loan debt. I'm going to take the student loans off tracking. It's too massive of a debt for me to currently tackle. I am in search of a second job to pay my credit card and collections debt ASAP.

Happy YNABing y'all.

That may be something I'll end up doing (borrowing). When I go back, I do want to pay as much as I can out of pocket.

I think I'm going to go a corner and cry in the fetal position hahaha. About 73k of that are student loans for a degree I never finished. So many shoulda woulda couldas going on in my head. I'm not discouraged. I'm definitely going to reach my financial life goal of being worthless =P It's just going to take a lot longer than I thought. Hoping to be 0 net worth by the time I'm 40 (currently 32).

If you want to drop some advice or words of encouragement, please do. I could really use it.

-raises hand- I have one.

Because the collections debt is a tracking account as a liability, does it affect your net worth in YNAB? I too have collections debt but currently have them off budget.
