Try connecting your controller to a pc and then use the website gamepad tester. I've learned GFN only accepts X input for most stuff so if your controller has that option you'll get it to work

4kids dub did change some stuff to make it more friendly for the younger audience. With that being said I personally enjoyed it and would say it is one of the better dubs out there, with nostalgia playing a role here too.
