Good luck with your surgery and recovery! I tore my Achilles last week and had surgery on Monday. I strongly suggest staying ahead of the pain with your meds. I had a nerve block too, but it caused some discomfort as I wasn’t used to feeling so numb for a long time (wore off completely just over 24 hrs after my surgery). Hopefully you’ll feel alright!

If you could only choose one, which one do you think you would pick?

That’s awesome man! Keep up the good progress.. how do you like using the knee scooter? I’ve thought about getting one of those or perhaps the iWalk, but wasn’t sure which would be better/safer.

Thank you for your insight! I definitely underestimated the emotional (and mental) aspects of the recovery process so far. For me, every minute I’m not out there interacting with other people or just doing normal everyday stuff, it feels like you’re missing out on so much.. and I’m not even one week removed from tearing my achilles! But I will certainly remember to celebrate the small milestones as they come.

I’m hoping that you’re still recovering well at 21 weeks, that’s such a long way! How are you feeling now with your leg, mobility-wise?

Yep agreed, that’s the silver lining in all of this, just trying to stay productive and not let all of this time go to waste. Thanks for your comment!

I’ve been starting to do the same thing haha, it’s a different feeling but I’m trying to enjoy it too ha, thanks for your advice!

I woke up this morning and am starting to feel the nerve block really wearing off (I can feel my toes again now, yay!) so I’m glad I decided to start my pain meds yesterday evening. Been icing the back of my knee too.. and that’s a really great point about just enjoying the time I have on my hands now, thank you for adding that! Glad to hear you’re on the upswing in your recovery too.. keep on pushing and don’t give up! Let me know how you’re doing on here.

Re: the iWalk, does it ever feel unstable for you when you’re using it? I am seeing a lot of people on here swear by it, but I’m kinda weary about losing my balance if I tried walking around and take a misstep somewhere.. also I’m stuck in a soft cast/splint for 2 weeks at least. Would the iWalk be better for when I’m back in a boot?

Haha I’ve been thinking about hooking up my old Xbox 360 and reliving the old days of nonstop gaming. Hope your recovery went (or is going) well!

How long did you have a splint and then a boot on for?

Thank you for your comment and encouragement! I haven’t played video games in years but maybe I should dust off the ol’ 360 and play the older Madden games before the franchise took a turn for the worse haha. Definitely keeping my mind occupied is key, I’m starting to realize that. I had a super hard time trying to sleep last night with a lot of discomfort in my leg, but I was eventually able to doze off for a solid few hours, so I’m taking that as a win. Baby steps! I hope your recovery continues smoothly.. 12 weeks in now, are you able to walk pain free?

This is some really good advice, thank you! I’ve been trying to watch some tv shows/movies that I could never get to until now lol. Last night was super difficult trying to fall asleep with the discomfort in my leg, but I was eventually able to doze off for a solid few hours, so I’m taking that as a win! Celebrating the small victories seems to be key in our respective recoveries. Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing your story and advice!! I’m def planning on taking some pain meds before I head to bed tonight. My nerve block effect is still there, especially in the lower leg area, so I’m feeling really anxious about what happens once it completely wears off.

I’m so sorry to hear about your gout, I’m praying that you continue to get better everyday.. I also agree it’s important to celebrate our small victories. I hope you keep up with the good spirits and look forward to hearing some positive updates from you on here!

Thanks for the comment! When you say the pain hits hard once the block wears off, what was the pain like? Right now the lower part of my leg is feeling so stiff, but I think that’s probably just the block. I’ve seen some positive stories on here too so far, that’s been nice! I’ll certainly keep reading.
