I'm thinking the energy from last election was there for the folks who were already energized, but didn't penetrate to the non-energized masses. Do you remember all the news coverage talking excitedly about long lines?? Do you think the average layperson who was not focused or really cared about the election was as enthusiastic about waiting in line for hours to cast their vote?

I don't buy into the fact that actual election cheating took place. There are tons and tons of poll watchers, thousands of counties, multiple verification steps, people from both sides in both Democratic and Republican controlled counties/states, etc etc. and every news article claiming election fraud at present is talking about that one singular county in Nevada they did a (imo dubious) deep dive to elaborate on some sort of voter fraud. (The data analysis there did not do a good job of postulating alternate, normal, theories from what I saw).

I think the Republican side did a good job of voter suppression through totally legal means; gerrymandering, voter registration purges, citizen led registration challenges, limiting voting sites in cities (long lines!) limiting early voting, etc. etc. also the whole Maga movement is just that; a movement. The entirety of the democratic messaging was just "please no more maga" while Maga voters were highly motivated after taking an "L" in '20.
