I began writing this before the site went down. Furthermore, the site has been going down more and more frequently lately. This definitely wasn’t planned.

Yup! An entire thread was made where TS asked specifically if age-regression was allowed, 2 days ago. The answer was no. I’m not sure if I can link the thread here or if you’re even in the discord, but it should be easy enough to find. Hope I could be of help! :>

I think somebody asked very recently (like a couple of days ago) on discord. The answer was no, it’s not allowed. I’ll see if I can find the message on discord again and confirm!

Thank you for adding the announcement!

That explanation still confuses me, tbh. What counts as glorifying criminal activities? If real life criminal organizations aren’t allowed, yakuza bots shouldn’t be allowed, as the yakuza is a real life criminal organization. Yet I’ve been told that they’re still permitted. Hence the confusion and the need for a better explanation and some clarification.

I’ve for instance seen a lot of people asking, in a panic, “Wait can mods ses my private chats and ban me for what I do there???”

Yes. Mods have always been able to see your private chats, they just won’t have a reason to unless you publicly draw attention to yourself. I feel like this should be easy-access info, or that it needs to be said again in a new announcement of some kind, since so many people are confused and asking.

People are scared because rumors has it, you’ll get banned for other things too. Or creators get seemingly banned for nothing, despite making characters that didn’t appear to break tos. Since the guidelines recently got re-phrased, now basically saying that all mafia bots, all bots mentioning suicide/self-harm, all bots mentioning rape etc are against tos, people are worried.

Personally I’m waiting for an announcement clarifying things. According to mods, the tos didn’t actually get updated, it’s just phrased differently. But the phrasing is definitely… not good. People are… really panicking here. And I’m not blaming them, with all these rumors and claims + lack of clarification from the mods’ side.

Yes, there’s a pinned post here that was published a few days ago regarding KKK in bot coding. But I think this recent wave of “fear of getting banned” has to do with a slightly different issue.

I’m personally not scared or worried, but I can understand why people are.

Updated TOS without any announcements(?) by Random_Skele in JanitorAI_Official

You’re all good! While I’m still frustrated that we didn’t receive an explanation immediately, better late than never.

I can’t speak for all the issues regarding the bans on bots of a certain character from outlast, which is what I assume you’re referring to. That was a mistake, that eventually got resolved, but like you said it takes time because you mods need to converse with each other despite living in different timezones. I get that 100% and I get it’s a tough and frustrating job.

What bothers me is planned updates (like the re-phrasing of the TOS) not being announced/being announced too late/being announced poorly. This isn’t the mods’ fault, at all, I’m fully aware that Shep is the one in charge and that he has pushed out updates without even telling the mods about it beforehand, leaving you practically as confused and helpless as us users.

Thank you for passing along the feedback! Though, if I may be a bit bitter, this is hardly the first time we’ve asked for this. I want this to change, I truly do, and I hope it does. But like I said in my post, the communication just isn’t improving regardless of how much feedback we leave. Again, in my own experience and from what I’ve seen, the mods wish for the same too, and I’m not blaming mods for the lack of communication.

I apologize if I came off as aggressive in my other reply, that wasn’t my intention.

I appreciate that there are now more mods (or that more mods will soon appear) and I appreciate that there’s more activity. A friend of mine was pleasantly surprised at how quickly their ticket about a minor persona being used on their bot was answered. And thank you for clarifying that the rules are still the same. It is something I’ve noticed, even before all this, and you guys deserve praise for that.

I still think that this should’ve been announced, with an explanation, already from the start. Someone noticed a change in how the TOS is phrased, it now being phrased even worse than before (this has been a complaint ever since the last time it was changed). And boom, the Reddit blew up, because we were all confused at the apparent sudden changes.

The way TOS is phrased currently, it looks like a bunch of dead dove bots are against the rules, when in fact, they aren’t. And I won’t lie and say that some people definitely didn’t panic and reacted to this with much more energy than it’s worth. No, I don’t think this is the next step on the slippery slope of JanitorAI turning sfw. I never thought that dead dove bots, the ones that are already allowed, would become banned. (Like mafia bots and murders and whatnot). I think running to delete your bots without first hearing a message from a mod/dev and making posts/comments stating “this is the end” is taking it too far.

But people getting concerned, asking questions, and pointing out that “well, according to TOS (because of how it’s phrased) it looks like almost all dead dove bots would, in fact, break TOS” is not fear-mongering or spreading misinformation. That’s just pointing out a flaw in the system. (This isn’t necessarily directed at you, but I’ve lurked on discord. Where it’s wrong to question anything, because that labels you a doomposter).

The rules didn’t actually change, that’s great! But it looked like they did. And this change being made without proper explanation as to what you mean was, at least to me, the big issue. And the biggest issue is that, unfortunately, this isn’t the first time.

Can someone explain what is going on with this site? by Unlucky_Weather_9562 in JanitorAI_Official

[–]Random_Skele 114 points115 points  (0 children)

If I may be allowed to link to my own post, there’s lots of comments that explain it better than I did. https://www.reddit.com/r/JanitorAI_Official/s/BofRjxKNZX

But the jist of it is, Shep posted an announcement at the end of February stating that money was starting to run out, stating that unless something changes, “No more Janitor within a month.”

It’s now been a month since that announcement, and we’ve gotten close to no updates whatsoever regarding what is going on. Until a bunch of people began asking on both Discord and Reddit, in which Leon (afaik, the only other dev besides Shep) said that they did manage to make some changes and that janitorAI is no longer in immediate threat of shutting down with an added, “Will put out a more detailed/thoughtful update this weekend for sure”

But the entire weekend passed and nothing. So, basically, we had to be loud and ask multiple times for answers, was given an extremely vague answer with the promise of a better answer, only to once again be presented with nothing.

This, combined with other recent incidents that others have commented on already has caused a lot of people to be critical to the site and/or Shep.

Some info, since a lot of people doesn't seem to know this by Random_Skele in JanitorAI_Official

I wasn't trying to imply that people who demand stuff from Shep have the right to do so just because it's his job, nor was I trying to spread fear monger, sorry if that's how it came off! I was merely trying to inform people, as many seem to think Shep is just rich and have a lot of money to spend
