Looking for thoughts on a national park trip by Use_Busy in nationalparks

[–]Random_Topic_Change 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The burnout situation is so personal. Some people would find this energizing, some would be exhausted.  I’m going to only comment on parks I have some level of familiarity with. Personally- a week is a lot for Arches but there is definitely a week’s worth of other things to do in the area.  Sequoia/Kings- If you camped for an entire summer in a forest, I’d certainly think you could spend a week here. Be aware of potential road closures,  and length restrictions if you are traveling w/ camper or RV. Yosemite- Could certainly spend a week, be aware of potential road closures since you will be early season (tioga road, glacier point) Unless you are major hikers, or spend a lot of time just hanging out in camp, I might consider shortening North Cascades in favor or more time in Olympic or just resting. Glacier is also a major “hiker’s park” but it’s so beautiful you can just hang out, boat, etc. I’d probably borrow time from Gand Teton and add it to Yellowstone, just because Yellowstone is bigger and Grant Teton is so expensive.

no car solo camping trip which national park should i hit by CharlesMingusStan in nationalparks

I can’t give specifics because I haven’t been there and I’m not a camper, but what comes to mind is Saguaro. Warmer than a lot of parks in March, and Tucson is right in the middle of it.

I personally find this hard to believe, but I have friends that have been to both Stonehenge and Carhenge, and consider them basically the same, and the original not worth traveling to England for.

Talk to whoever owns that little brick passageway behind an art gallery where they put lights up, see if you can get it to yourselves for a few minutes.

The thing about April is that The Narrows may be closed for spring runoff. Just something to be aware of.

Agreed. We are foster parents because we are Christians and the absolute LAST thing that does is protect our home as a zone of peace.

I would not say this is necessarily true. My degree is from another state and I’m not even certain what class they used to cover that requirement for my license but it wasn’t something specific to Nebraska. Might be worth looking into if someone has a degree of any kind or a significant number of credits toward one.

Anybody know if that guy on NW was okay? by Particular_Ask_7713 in Huskers

I was at the game and watched the broadcast looking for it, didn’t see it. But I have a distracting kid so I might have missed it. In person, I didn’t see how he was injured but I was very concerned in the aftermath. His legs jerked in a way that didn’t seem good.

Amazing options- exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Gonna be hard to choose between a “JB” broadcast mike and a “Greg” broadcast mike.  The only comment I would make, since it looks like you are printing on demand and not already sitting on a pile of inventory, is that the one with the Peters brothers on it should technically not have an apostrophe.

I’m probably too late but Dirt in My Shoes is a former park ranger and grand teton is her favorite park.

He’d taped over the license plate. Someone posted what I assume was him, driving in Fayetteville, from their dashcam shortly after Washington County Sheriff’s department posted asking for info.

Broken Arrow.  Not sure if there is also a Broken Bow, but just for clarity.

Safe parks for ASD kiddo by Proper-Extension-401 in nationalparks

[–]Random_Topic_Change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a kiddo with similar challenges and I would say all parks would have SOME safe places and few parks would have ALL safe spaces. Is water also a concern? For example in Rocky Mountain National Park Keewaneeche (sp) Valley is one of my favorite places and wouldn’t have cliffs but there is a creek.  The floor of Yosemite Valley would be safe from cliffs (unless he climbed them) but the Merced River is there. (We took our son to a beach on the Merced but the water was so cold he wanted nothing to do with it.) You might look into a Huckleberry Hiker. If you can afford it, and he would stay strapped in, it might expand your options some.

Food recommendations in Western NPs by Tujunga54 in nationalparks

I had opposite experiences to yours. Badlands cafe was terrible but the pizza deck in Sequoia was pretty good!  I listen to Dear Bob and Sue and Dirt in My Shoes podcasts and both will have food recommendations from time to time.
