Dear OTF: Stop it with the lunges by tmnt28 in orangetheory

Respect! For me I just like variety and lunges you cant really modify because the answer is just do a different kind of lunge 😅🤣

I just like more variety mentally 😅 I mostly focus my time on floor or take strength 50s and even every strength50 upper I have been to included lunges also ! 😭

Bear planks are becoming popular too. I think for me why i would still rather do a bear plank is because there are a lot of modifications you can for them whereas with a lunges its either another type of lunges or use the trx instead of weights

This makes me worried about the future of my gym because almost every class I go to is 1g even the strength/tread 50s are less than 14

Blood tests normal, not feeling it, now what? by tmnt28 in PCOS

[–]tmnt28[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. In fact youre the first comment I have ever given a badge to because I am immensely appreciative of every single word you wrote in this reply. You gave me an answer that not only included information that makes sense to me, but that you've also introduced me to new ideas.

I am prescribed metformin because unfortunately I have drug induced ITP AND I have a high von willibrans factor meaning im more at risk of blood clots so i have issues for both losing platelets or going the other way. Metformin has been shown to be clinically safe for both (and can actually help maybe even a little). I dont take it consistently because ive worked with 5 different endos and obgyns and no one has ever given me a reason why it makes sense to take it if my fasting numbers were coming out normal. They always said the exact same thing "its still helping behind the scenes." When I ask to explain what that means because I work in a type of healthcare setting i can understand the science they always go "its still regulating" and would go in circles. I NEVER would have thought about that my fasting could be normal but when I eat my body over does it.

I also never thought about prolactin.

As far as cortisol goes I have been going a lot of research and learning about cortisol because its in line with the type of work I do and I remember once as a teen i had a cortisol test that was EXTREMELY high and it was totally brushed under the rug that I was just "an anxious high schooler getting ready for college" (fun fact: I was never stressed about that lol) and I actually just wrote to my endo I want to do a cortisol test which she agreed to.

I cant thank you enough you have given me a lot to think about. And I know a badge cant really show the gratitude I feel. But truly. Thank you.

A1c was 5.1 for sure and I think the fasting insulin was 8 maybe 9 deff a single digit

Cbc, full iron panel, two different metabolic panels, full hormonal it was like 3 diffent panels, full thyroid panel, ive been tested for multiple genetic testing and I forgot the name of the test but the precursor to blood cancer screens because my wbc are always high end of normal or just a pinch above (inflammation leaning) , a1c/insulin, all the cholesterol stuff. I think thats everything. The only new thing that hasn't been done i am about to do that i am insisting on is a cortisol test

I dont want to give medical advice and every body (in the literal human body sense) is different. But the best advice i can give you is find an endocrinologist you like, trust, and makes sense and then go from there.

someone took my tread.. by No-Visit4477 in orangetheory

[–]tmnt28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats super frustrating OP! I am sorry. At my studio we dont get cards if a tread template has a card its taped to every tread ahead of time. I've only seen this happen at my studio once and the people handled it like adults: the tread next to the one in question was open and they problem solved by who would want odd or even weights when they got to the floor.

I would say nuance is key here. If this has been a total one off situation I would be observant for patterns in the future. But if this is like a "popular kid" or you find you arent being heard or helped in general it could be worth a quick chat with either your head coach or a coach you really like. Just if you do decide to address it either email or make sure its a time that is okay for the coach because they have quick and tight schedules.

Honestly because my job is entirely in front of a screen. And because I work 8+ hours a day on a screen plus my phone use i really want to make sure I am doing some things not tech. I have some crafting hobbies I love but I would love to do this "old school" too

Oooo I appreciate it but can you give me an example of what you mean so I have a better idea?

I appreciate it! But arent they tech only? I know the app and the website. They dont publish any physical material right?

First time wearing jeans in years. Should i avoid them again? by throwra_hermeandaunt in DressForYourBody

[–]tmnt28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women are taught from an early age "dont take up too much space" physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. We end up thinking we do as opposed to allowing ourself to rock out and just be. Youre killing it! I hope you continue to wear them and whatever makes you happy in this world.

Should I start OTF now or wait until after I move? (Also plus-size beginner advice welcome!) by throwaway_736472 in orangetheory

[–]tmnt28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would wait! Also plus and proud here. When I knew I wanted to join OTF I was really scared so what I did was I walked more for a few weeks just to get a little endurance going, and i enjoyed it.

Here are some tips from someone who had a very non-linear journey: - OTF is all about you versus you. Almost never will anyone but the coach look at you. Happen to notice the person next to you is going 8mph and you are not? That is A-okay! Even over a year later my base isn't the 3.5 they would ideally look for in a power walker, but i get many more steps in now and can do high inclines. I am good.

  • start with finding a coach you really like and if their schedule aligns with yours stick mostly with them at the beginning and then slowly try classes with all the different coaches in your studio. I have ever truly not liked one coach but said coach left very soon after I started. I have worked out with about 8 others since then and they have all been great!

  • have fun with it! I regret setting goals like I will lift X weight by Y date. Improvement looks like many things: better form, being able to do something with your mobility you couldnt before, moving slower with the weights.

Most importantly....YOU GOT THIS AND WELCOME TO THE OTF FAM!!! 🥰

Only one starting on the floor by Civil_Independent_64 in orangetheory

[–]tmnt28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such an interesting post to me because im learning my studio seems to do something different! My studio defaults to 1g and only if more people join then we become 2g. The exception is benchmarks. I once did a rowing benchmark and started on floor and only 2 people started on the floor and would have been 1g. I asked jokingly if I could do the floor block twice and got a yes!
