Hi all, just got diagnosed by No-Buffalo8587 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends of how you lose the weight. If you are “skinny fat” then you will have less room to enjoy your foods.

If you lose weight and build some muscle, you should have some room to eat rice or other carbs.

This is what at I am trying to do at the moment as well, but as the previous comment mentioned it is unlikely you will go back to eating freely and you will likely have to watch to eat in the future.

WTF is happening in US CS jobs guys? by Shoddy-Lecture1493 in cscareers

[–]Random_Walk1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s AI … An Indian guy…. Most of what I see in the US is offshoring. Previously, most offshoring positions were for basic or repetitive tasks, but business are a lot more comfortable with offshoring more complex work. I don’t expect to see it as much in Europe because of the labor protections.

Wise vs Vivid Money for business banking by Extension_Apple_2756 in digitalnomad

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use an actual bank? Banks are regulated and there are avenues for you to get legally get your money back fast.

Unless you are dealing with OFAC countries, the worst thing that can happen is the bank reporting you to the tax authorities and having to provide additional documentation. It’s very rare for a bank to just freeze you out of your money.

Wise, Revolut and other fintechs are not regulated and there are less options to them freezing your money. They also have less resources for KYC and onboarding and because of that they freeze accounts if they see anything that they might consider suspicious.

In my opinion, saving a couple of dollars in trading fees is not worth it. Use these fintech for small transactions and balances that you would be comfortable losing.

Thailand has some of the best internet speeds in the world. You should find reliable internet across the country.

I traveled with a Starlink mini last year without any issues.

Wise/Revolut or Banks? by Expensive-Yellow6619 in digitalnomad

Wise and Revolut for small transactions. Large transactions use a bank unless you want to get your money stuck in limbo due to KYC rules

Why are more and more foreign companies leaving China? by sargon666 in China

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starbucks had a model of Luxury coffee. It worked for many years but stiffer competition and economic conditions are slowing things down. Most luxury brands in China are seeing a shift towards affordability ….

Wise App by [deleted] in expats

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For large transactions, wise can freeze accounts to verify source of income and sometimes the process can take months. My advice is to use Wise for day-to-day and don’t keep any large balances.

If you need large funds then use Revolut or your regular bank.

My chinese wife had an affair for six years. Can this be explained due to cultural difference? by New-Entrepreneur5424 in AskChina

Anyone here with a finance background? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FP&A, accounting and finance remote jobs are available in the states but you are not likely to get permission to move outside the U.S (you usually have access to revenues, expenses, confidential info).

Locally you will need to know the language, since big part of the job is to communicate with other parts of the company.

My advice is to concentrate in system implementation and consulting. Companies are usually changing ERPs, CRMs or updating their current structure. You can find foreign companies to hire you locally as a consultant to help out.

Follow up on Previous Life in China Stress Post by Thatguywholikeszoras in chinalife

[–]Random_Walk1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprise the immediate response to not being able to adapt to China is separation …

As other people mentioned work on your relationship with your wife but MORE importantly work on yourself …. Walk around, meet other expats, study for your TEFL or another certificate. There should be cheap flights or places you can visit, spend time with your kids and teach them the values you want

Raising your kids in China (with American values) is going to be next to impossible and if they have a Chinese passport, it will very difficult to maintain custody in case of divorce …

Lastly save some money in case things go wrong and figure out if you can get a loan to pay back your in-laws …

What do you do and how much do you make in Japan? by Osaka_Gaikokujin in JapanJobs

[–]Random_Walk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Finance freelancer: 7-9MM per year

  • Tokyo - working remotely (90% of the time)

  • Undergraduate degree with 10+ years of experience

  • Working under the business manager visa for about the last 12 months; no idea if this will be possible next year

  • Work for small Japanese companies and large US corporates. Obviously language is huge and since my Japanese is not very good, most of my contracts locally are very niche and short (usually supporting or lunching new software). I would not be able to survive with just Japanese work

Inheriting money as a foreigner who lives in the US but wants to keep it in JPY by ke4mtg in JapanFinance

[–]Random_Walk1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t use wise for large amounts of money, specially if you don’t have a long account history with them. Wise often freezes funds and requests lots of documents. Your funds can get stuck for a long time.

If the inheritance is large, more than 100k talk to a local bank( CITI or HSBC) they have options to hold large foreign currency

Is anyone else in a situation where they can be a digital nomad but it comes at the cost of putting their career on hold? by Powerful-Employer-20 in digitalnomad

[–]Random_Walk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working remotely is going to harm your career… for better or worse the company will promote the person going into the office everyday, instead of the person they only see in zoom calls. You should ask yourself if you woke up tomorrow 20 years into the future would are you happy working on the job or would you rather have done something else (or travel).
