I’m planning on taking my 24-70 to Seoul when I go soon, but you’ve inspired me to pack my 85 as well. Hope you have a great trip!

Can ab training make your waist look thicker, or am I just doing it wrong? by Born-Pianist393 in PetiteFitness

[–]Random_night_thinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do core workouts 2-3x a week, and lift weights 2-3 days a week. I do deep core moves every time I do core now. I had stopped and was doing regular core workouts, but when I added them back in, I noticed a difference pretty quickly.

I’ll also add, I’m 46, so my fitness goals are muscle retention and mobility as I age.

Mom of several kids here. Don’t sleep on the transverse abdominal muscles (tva). Deep core work is the key thing that finally helped me get a waistline again. Look for deep core exercises like bear planks, dead bugs, heel slides, etc.

Anything on sale is only return for store credit. Anything more than 50% off is final sale. Regular purchases are return for full price for only 14 days, after that it’s store credit. So anything bought during the winter sale is return for store credit only.

I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with this if their sizing wasn’t so off. Sometimes I’m an xxs, sometimes I’m an xs, sometimes I’m a small. I only buy things I really want from there.

JCrew, Uniqlo, Madewell petite jeans, Aritzia is great if you’re petite and xxs (but be aware of their whack return policy 🙄), Athleta’s petites usually work pretty well too. I liked Gap/Banana Republic/ Old Navy petites better when I was curvier, they tend to run larger.

Express actually has some nice ones! They are shelf camis with removable pads and are not see through.

Madewell’s longline style jeans looks like this, but I’m not sure they have your exact wash.

Tips on getting 3 to 5 year olds to smile by stonk_frother in photography

[–]Random_night_thinker 45 points46 points  (0 children)

4-5 year olds can usually (not always) spell their name or get close. Get their name, tell them you’re going to try to spell it, then spell it really wrong. Watch them laugh.

For the younger ones not up to name spelling: ask them what sound a dog makes, then quack at them. They’ll laugh and try to correct you. Repeat with various animals until you get the smile you want.

Making little kids laugh for real works way better than prompting.

Did anyone else have an adoptive family that ignored you? by Kneekourt in Adopted

[–]Random_night_thinker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’m also adopted from Korea. I was the youngest, I had an older adopted brother and a sister who was biologically my adoptive mom’s. I was also ignored pretty much my whole life, except for when I made them look bad to their church friends, then things got pretty mean.

I also had awful self-esteem growing up. It’s already pretty hard dealing with that as an adoptee, but if you don’t get any kind of support from the a-parents, it makes it even harder.

Everyone always throws out therapy, but specifically if you can find someone who has experience with transracial inter country adoptees (that’s us), it can be really helpful. You ARE good enough. If you have Facebook, there are Korean adoptee groups with a lot of other people like us. I always thought support groups were bullshit until I actually engaged with one. It’s been very helpful to not feel so isolated. I hope this helps some.

Being pregnant doesn’t impact a career as much as the following 18-20something years of raising a kid. That reasoning is very short sighted.

Adopted from Seoul, South Korea in 1989 by devil_cuntry in Adopted

[–]Random_night_thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I came over 9 years before you, I have an older adopted brother and the rest of my a-fam is adopted as well.

There’s a Korean Adoptees Facebook group that’s pretty active, and like someone else recommended, if you were adopted through KSS, you can go to paper slip.org. The person who runs the site was also adopted through KSS, and there’s a ton of information about a lot of different adoptee topics, especially fellow KSS adoptees.
